Looking Back

Last week, I forgot, once again, to include a link to one of our early posts. I do have one for you today. It’s from October 15, 2012. It’s about Astrid and kitten, Calista Jo, and was written ten days after C.J. became one of the Kitties Blue. The post is entitled, “Rolling, Sliding and Somersaulting.” You can view it by clicking on the link. If you are a subscriber, the link should already be in your e-mail in-box. (It’s worth checking it out if just to see the photo.) Astrid, C.J. and I hope you will leave us a comment on the post if you enjoy it.

Thanks for visiting us. today. Kitties Blue and I will be back tomorrow with a poem and some thankfuls.

SQUIRREL APPRECIATION & ANSWER CAT’S QUESTIONS

Caturday Art

Yesterday was Squirrel Appreciation Day, and we missed it. We feel badly about that, as those little bushy-tailed, bird-seed thieves provide Kitties Blue with hours of entertainment daily. To make up for our incompetence, we are featuring one of our resident squirrels in our Caturday Art.

Caturday Art of squirrel in the snow

I “artified” our furry friend using the Snow Leopard effect from Painnt. The snowflake frame is from favpng. I thought both the effect and the frame appropriate, as the photo was taken a few days ago by Dad Tom when it was snowing.

This is my entry in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. If you’d like to create some art and enter the hop, click on her badge.

I did make a puzzle for you today as well.

National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day

This is the first time Kitties Blue have participated in Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day. I instructed them to put any questions in the regular suggestion box. When I opened it and looked through, I, as usual, mostly found complaints. I am not surprised. They are cats after all.

I did find two questions, one from Sawyer and one from Kizmet. I also am not surprised that it’s the youngsters who have the questions.

The first is from Sawyer: Why can’t I have all the treats I want?

Again, no surprise there. Of course, we all know the answer, as does Sawyer. If you eat all the treats you want, you won’t eat your regular meals, which contain your meds.

Kizmet’s question: As there are only seven of us now, will you and Dad Tom be adopting another cat?

Well, I definitely would like to, but we have no plans right now. Possibly when Misty May joins her brother, Mau, at the Bridge, we may consider finding a bonded pair of kitties (possibly seniors, as Dad Tom and I are septuagenarians) that are in need of a home.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Yep, it’s time again to remind you to get your selfie snapped so you can take part in our Sunday Selfies blog hop. We go live at midnight ET, and the hop remains open until Thursday. But it’s always good to get here on Sunday so your friends don’t miss the opportunity to see you. None of the Kitties Blue crew have stepped up and offered to be your host, but I know where to find the treats, so I am certain I can coerce one of them.

If you are in the deep freeze, as we are, stay inside and stay warm. If you’re not, lucky you!

KIZMET & SQUIRREL ART

Caturday Art

The squirrels are pretty put out with us. Dad Tom took down the bird feeders and covered the bird baths due to this bird disease that is in several states, including Virginia (though not in our area).

They have taken to getting on the upper deck, which is partly open and coming down to the catio looking for food. Yesterday Astrid chased one up and down from upper deck to catio. Mr. Squirrel was on the handrail and Astrid on the stairs. He got away!

Our art today features one of our demanding interlopers. He’s on the pergola adjacent to the the catio. Kizmet is watching through the kitchen window. I think she looks super cute with her paw on the window.

Kizmet and squirrel

As per usual, I went back to Painnt to create today’s art. I used the Leather effect with original color composition and the Grunge frame. Easy and simple.

Kizmet will be popping over to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog to join her hop. If you’d like to participate, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow is our weekly blog hop, and all the Kitties Blue hope you’ll take a selfie and join us. We’d love to have our Sawyer as your host, but he’s still not home. It is heart wrenching to think we may not see him again, but we are not giving up. We continue to search and let more and more people know that he is missing. Dad Tom and I are thankful for each of you who continue to post about Sawyer and pray that our boy is found or finds his way home on his own.

Please, please join us tomorrow. We all love seeing your adorable faces!

SQUIRREL & CAT ANTICS

Feline/Friendship Fridays

squirrel & cat antics

Kizmet spotted a squirrel in the tree outside of the catio. It was chattering away about some perceived fault on the part of the cats or humans. If you cannot see said squirrel, it is the blob about a half inch down and to the right of the branch to the right of Kizmet’s outstretched paw.

Kizmet is participating in the Feline Friday blog hop at Comedy Plus and the Friendship Friday blog hop at Create With Joy. You can join her by clicking on the appropriate badge(s).

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #255

Time for those fill-ins hosted each week by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). Last week the Kitties Blue completed three of the four fill-ins and informed me they think they should be able to do them every week. Sometimes, however, the fill-ins do not lend themselves to completion by a cat. So Kitties Blue are warming the bench this week.

1. I wish I knew how to play Mahjong.

2. If offered a free trip to space, I would decline.

3. Dad Tom and I having had our COVID vaccines is the most exciting thing in my life right now.

4. I could give a long lecture on the topic of how to be a volleyball scorekeeper.

Friendly Fill-Ins is a blog hop. You can find the sentences to be filled in on both Ellen and Lorianne’s blogs on Thursdays. And you can join the hop by clicking on the badge below.

We’ll be back tomorrow with some Caturday Art.

SPRINGTIME SQUIRRELY ART

Caturday Art

With today being the first day of Spring, I wanted to do some art representative of the season. Today’s art features one of our resident squirrels and a crocus from our yard.

squirrely

I used picMonkey to overlay the crocus photo on that of the squirrel. I added the border with piZap. That’s it…nothing fancy today, but I believe it accomplished what I wanted.

This is my submission in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. If you’d like to participate or just check out some art by other bloggers, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Have you ever noticed how days drag by but weeks and months fly away quickly? Maybe you don’t feel that’s the case, but whether you do or not, it’s time for Sunday Selfies again! We feel like we just posted ours and enjoyed all your selfies. Anyhoo, it’s time to do the entire thing all over again. Tomorrow is our blog hop, and Kitties Blue are hoping you’ll join in the fun.

Enjoy the first day of Spring, and we will see you tomorrow.

PUMPKIN EATER ART

Caturday Art

pumpkin-eating squirrel

After Halloween, I moved my pumpkins to the far side of the front porch. As the temperatures got colder, the squirrels started eating them. Eventually the pumpkins started to decompose, and we began to dispose of them.  So, we are down to one little gourd. On Friday this portly squirrel was chowing down on it when Dad Tom snapped his photo.

To turn this squirrel into art I used the Novecento effect from the Painnt app and bumped up the saturation slightly. To that I added the glitter filter from piZap at about 40 percent.

Mr. Squirrel is hopping over to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog to join her for her Caturday Art blog hop. To participate, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow is a very special Sunday for selfies, as it is Valentine’s Day. I am certain Kitties Blue have something exceptional planned; though, they have not shared with me. If you want to do something special to share, that would be terrific. Of course, it is not required. We just want to see and share your adorable faces on the blog hop. Hope to see you there.

A SQUIRRELLY POEM & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

We are here with a poem for Angel Sammy and Teddy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) poetry challenge. The inspiration photo they selected for us today definitely elicited an “awww” from me. Kitties Blue are great fans of the squirrels at our house, as they provide them with hours of entertainment.

When the Kids Move Back Home

Hey, quit hogging all the space.
This is my resting place.
Go build your own nests;
You two are huge pests.
When you first moved away,
I expected you to stay…
Not come home and move back in
After all you are now grown men.

If you’d like to try writing poetry, click on the badge below to visit Two Spoiled Cats. You’ll find the inspiration photo for next week. While there, make certain to read the poem written by Angel Sammy. He transmits it to Teddy from the Rainbow Bridge each week, and he is a meowvolous poet.

Thankful Thursday

In addition to writing a poem on Thursday, we also share our thankfuls with you and join the blog hop at Brian’s Home.

I have one thankful this week that outweighs all others. I am thankful for the return to sanity in our Nation’s Capitol with the inauguration of Joesph R. Biden and Kamala D. Harris as our new President and Vice President. May our country begin to heal.

I remain broken-hearted over the more than 400,000 of our citizens who have lost their lives to the coronavirus. Though I do not expect to be able to get a vaccine anytime soon, I am thankful that it is out there and eventually will be available to all who want it.

Finally, I am thankful for the support and friendship of those who follow us. May you all remain safe and healthy in 2021.

To participate in the blog hop, post on your blog for what you are thankful, then click on Brian’s badge to share your thankfuls with him and join the hop.

Gratuitous Cat Photo

This being a cat blog, I felt impelled to share a photo of one of the Kitties Blue.

THE ADVENTURES OF STINKY & PERIWINKLE: PART LIV

Tock-Tober

Tock-Tober

Stinky is sitting by the teleportation tunnel waiting for Periwinkle. Tuesday is his favorite day of the week, as they always get to spend it together doing something fun. Soon Periwinkle arrives with the usual whoosh and falls into his waiting paws. After several minutes hugging and sharing whisker kisses, Periwinkle asks about today’s adventure.

“We are going to celebrate Tock-Tober,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Stinky, do you actually understand what Tock-Tober is about?”

“Yeah, sort of. There was this cat named Derby who really liked to show off his buttocks.”

“Buttocks?”

“Yeah, you know, butt, tocks, @$$ cheeks.”

“Hey wait a minute,“ Periwinkle interrupts, “are you supposed to say @$$? I don’t think your mom would like that. This is a family adventure after all.”

“So what should I say?” asks Stinky.

“I think heinie or backside are okay,” replies Periwinkle.

“Okay, this cat, from what I have heard, Derby, liked to show off his heinie, so his birthday on October 20 became a holiday named Tock-Tober. It is celebrated all over the blogosphere; though, Derby is now at the Rainbow Bridge. His brother Ducky and lots of other pets continue to celebrate in his memory.”

“So, what are we supposed to do?” asks Periwinkle.

“We are supposed to display our heinies for all to see,“ says Stinky.

“Well that sounds sort of rude, don’t you think?”

“I don’t know. For some reason humans seem to like it,” replies Stinky.

“Are you going to share your backside, Stinky?” asks Periwinkle, then stops herself and adds, ”Hey, without a tail your heinie is always out there for the world to see.”

“Yep, that’s right, unless I am sitting on it! And I think it is pretty darn cute. So, yes, I am going to show it off, especially as most of my furblings are too chicken to share their tocks. However, I did catch a few heinie photos of them I plan to share.”

“Well then let’s have a look,“ says Periwinkle.

Tock-Tober

“Let’s see if I can figure out to which of your fursibs these heinies belong: Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Misty May and Cooper Murphy.”

“Bingo,” says Stinky and adds with a chuckle, “You sure know your backsides!”

Periwinkle gives him a withering look and says, “Okay, Stinky, time to show me your tocks.”

“I will, but first I have some others to share. One of our cheeky squirrels…”

Before Stinky can finish, Periwinkle starts giggling hysterically and barely chokes out, “Hey, cheeky as in @$$ cheeks.” She then gasps and claps her paw over her mouth. When she takes it away she says, “Oops. sorry!”

Stinky just giggles. He knows Periwinkle can be a bit impulsive sometimes. He then shows off the photo of his friend.

Tock-Tober

“Wow, that is some fabulous tail. He’s sort of lucky as it really masks his actual tocks. Okay Stinky, your turn,” says Periwinkle.

“Ta da,” exclaims Stinky.

Stinky, you have the cutest heinie,” squeals Periwinkle. She adds, “The little ghost was a nice touch. So that was fun, but I am ready for a snack.”

“First I have one more very cute backside to share with you,” says Stinky.

Periwinkle gives him a puzzled look, as Stinky hands her one final photo.

“Hey, where did you get that? I said I didn’t want to show my tocks,” Periwinkle says while scowling at Stinky.

“Oh Noelle, your mom already showed this on your blog a couple of years ago, and it is all in good fun. Besides, you have a beautiful heinie and a fabulous tail.”

Blushing, Noelle gives Stinky a big hug and whispers in his ear that she forgives him his indiscretion.

“So you aren’t mad at me?” asks Stinky.

“I could never be m/ad at you. I am just a wee bit embarrassed.”

“You definitely have no reason to be embarrassed and if you are, you really need to get over it, as it is time for us to head over to the Tabby Cat Club for their Tock-Tober celebration,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Oh, I forgot about that. Can we get a snack before we go?”

“Of course,” says Stinky and leads Periwinkle to the kitchen.

The End

If you are members of the Tabby Cat Club, you can catch up with Stinky and Periwinkle there later today. If you’re not a member, you can find our terrific tabby twosome next Tuesday at Friends Furever. Stinky and Periwinkle and all the Kitties Blue wish everyone a fun Tock-Tober!

Periwinkle and Stinky also are joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus.
