Gotcha Day

THANKSGIVING GOTCHA DAY & SAD FAREWELL

Thankful Thursday

Today is my fourth Gotcha Day, and for that I am very thankful. This was my first official photo taken that evening.

Thanksgiving gotcha day

This was my second official photo taken the following day. I may have been just about the grumpiest cat on the planet.

Thanksgiving gotcha day

I have to admit, I am a bit grumpy today, as Mom and Dad are not here to spoil me, but as I now have a second Gotcha Day (the day Mom brought me home from my walkabout) on July 21, I have decided to cut them a little slack. Because I can have a seizure at anytime, Mom has not left the city limits since October 2018. And I am certain she will tell Kit I need to get extra treats today.

I am slowly making friends with Kit. As Kit puts it, Astrid still thinks she’s an axe murderer. On the other side of the coin is Kizmet, who slept with her last night. The remainder of the gang are taking this unusual event of a “live-in” cat sitter with aplomb. As long as they are getting their meals on schedule, they really don’t care who is feeding and looking after them.

Anyhoo, I really am thankful as are all the Kitties Blue that Mom and Dad are spending Thanksgiving with family.

Profound Sadness

We are all in shock at the loss of our dear friend, Dad Pete Cusack, from Tomcat Commentary by Tim. Pete and his furry gang have been our friends and following us from the very beginning. They also were with us on our Sunday Selfies blog hop from week one. We have found that pet bloggers are incredibly caring and compassionate people, and Pete was at the top of that list. He was a kind, thoughtful, generous and loving individual. We are thankful to have known him and had him as a friend and supporter. We will miss him terribly, but he will remain in our hearts always.

I am going to pop over and join Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop and then sign-off.

All the Kitties Blue, Mom Janet and Dad Tom wish
everyone a joyful and blessed Thanksgiving.

Purrs and paw-pats, Sawyer

TYEBE’S GOTCHA DAY, FRIENDLY FILL-INS & A POEM

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #258

Friday again, which means it is time for those fill-ins hosted by Ellen from 15 And Meowing and Lorianne from Four-Legged Furballs. Kitties Blue kindly did three of the fill-ins this week, leaving me with the easiest one. As we always do, the kitties and I used teal italics for our fill-ins.

1. Sawyer: My day is not complete until I get treats.

2. Cooper Murphy: It is time to wish my beautiful girlfriend Tyebe (The Canadian Cats) a happy Gotcha Day.

GOTCHA DAY

3. Sawyer: When Kizmet joined the family and we became friends, it made me change my mind about trying to make friends with Calista Jo.

4. I simply refuse to pay retail for anything!

Friendly Fill-ins is a blog hop. You can find the sentences to be filled in on Ellen and Lorianne’s blogs on Thursdays. Click on the badge below to join the hop.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

I missed writing a poem yesterday for Angel Sammy and Teddy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) poetry challenge due to my review of Destiny’s Children. So, I have the inspiration photo and my poem today.

QWERTY

Tippity, tappity, click, click, clack!
That’s the noise from this gigantic typing class.
Learning to type to become employable—
None would say the experience is enjoyable.
Being a secretary is preferable to being a waitress
Or a grease monkey cleaning windshields and pumping gas.
Though the typing instruments may have changed,
These skills are now even more important to attain.
Almost every job in 2021 requires computer usage
Without that ability the desired job may remain elusive!

If you’d like to try writing some poetry, check out Teddy and Angel Sammy’s Thursday post each week to find the inspiration photo for the following Thursday. And while visiting, take the time to read Sammy’s poem. He’s a master poet. To hop on over to Two Spoiled Cats right now, click on the poetry badge.

Apologies

Kitties Blue and I send our apologies to Brian’s Home, Comedy Plus and Create With Joy as we are not entering the Thankful Thursday, Feline Friday or Friendship Friday blog hops this week. We’ll be back to a regular schedule next week.

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY COOPER MURPHY

Thankful Thursday

On January 7, 2017, we rescued Cooper Murphy from a snowstorm after he’d been hanging out on a friend’s porch for two days.  We know he is thankful we did that, and we are thankful to have him as a member of our fur family. He was about 15-months old at the time. He’d been neutered but did not have a microchip. I placed a notice on all the lost/found pet web-sites. We had some calls, but he was not the cat any of the inquirers were missing. Someone moved and left him behind or he was dumped in our neighborhood. We think that day was lucky for Cooper and all of us.

We’ve made him a special card with a photo from January, 2017, and a photo taken yesterday.

We also made him an extra special cake.

Please celebrate with us and help yourselves to some cake, nip ice cream and champagne or lemonade.

Additional Thankfuls

All the Kitties Blue, Dad Tom and I remain thankful we adopted Kizmet. She is a comic and keeps us entertained. Her purr is thundering, and she cranks it up constantly. During these bleak times, she has brought joy back into our house.

I have two rare thankfuls. Not only was I a First Commenter (one of eight), but I also was the first Right Guesser on the Tuesday Teaser over at Two Spoiled Cats. That has only happened a couple of other times in all the years I have participated. I received these three cool badges.

Our friend, Brian, hosts the Thankful Thursday blog hop. We are participating. If you’d like to do the same, click on his badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

We would normally have a poem today for the Two Spoiled Cats’ (Angel Sammy and Teddy) poetry challenge. The poem, however, will be included on tomorrow’s post.

Hope you enjoy our celebration of Cooper Murphy!

SAWYER’S 3RD GOTCHA DAY

Then & Now

Three years ago today, this grumpy, little Manx kitten came into our lives. To say he didn’t like us would be a huge understatement. It’s taken almost the entire three years, but I believe he finally is happy to be a Kitties Blue and have Dad Tom and I as his humans.

And we are thankful to have him as one of the Kitties Blue crew. With the severity of his early seizures and our inability to get them under control, we weren’t certain he’d still be with us now.

If you don’t know Sawyer’s Gotcha Day story, his alter-ego, Stinky, shared it yesterday on “The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky” post. You can access that post from the link at the bottom of this page.

Sawyer received two very nice Gotcha Day Cards—one from his girlfriend Noelle and one from the Timmy Tomcat gang.

Sawyer sends his sincere thanks for the thoughtfulness. He knows how fortunate he is to have so many good friends.

Cooper Murphy made a special cake for Stinky yesterday and so has cupcakes for Sawyer today. All the Kitties Blue, Dad Tom and I hope you will stay awhile and celebrate with us.

Though this has ben a semi-wordy post, Sawyer is going to pop over to Comedy Plus for the Wordless Wednesday blog hop. You can do the same by clicking on the badge.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART LIX

Gotcha Day Celebration

Stinky sits by the teleportation tunnel wringing his paws. He is waiting for Periwinkle to arrive at his house, but he did not plan the day’s adventure. His Mom told him Periwinkle was planning it. She planned the Thanksgiving one for last week, so he is surprised she is doing a second one today. He wanted Periwinkle to join him in helping his mom decorate for Christmas. Stinky thinks his mom probably told Periwinkle to plan an adventure so they wouldn’t mess with her decorations and ornaments. She’s pretty particular about those kinds of things.

Stinky is pondering what might be happening when Periwinkle comes stumbling out of the tunnel. She is dragging a huge sack behind her and looks like a Kitty Santa Claus.

Stinky’s eyes grow wide as he goes to help her with her bundle, but Periwinkle waves him off. She tells Stinky that his mom and dad are going to help her, and she orders him to the catio. If Stinky had a tail, he would tuck it between his legs, as he doesn’t even get the opportunity to hug Periwinkle and give her a whisker kiss. Stinky sits on the catio watching the birds and pouting…just a little bit.

Stinky doesn’t have to wait very long for Periwinkle to call him into the house. The first thing he sees when he gets inside is a huge banner, and he gasps.

Gotcha Day

Before he can say anything, Periwinkle hands him some items to wear. As he is dressing, Periwinkle does the same. “Happy Gotcha Day Stinky,” says Periwinkle and gives Stinky a huge hug.

Gotcha Day

Stinky is totally speechless for a few moments then blurts out, “Oh my gosh, this is such a surprise. My Gotcha Day isn’t until tomorrow.”

“But our adventures are always on Tuesday, so we are celebrating today,” says Periwinkle. She adds, “I hope that’s okay.”

“Oh yes,” replies Stinky.

“I have a card for you,” says Periwinkle and hands Stinky the special card she made for him.

Gotcha Day

“Thank you Periwinkle. This is so adorable and sweet.”

“Oh, Stinky, I don’t know what happened. Your card is blurry. I am so sorry!”

“Periwinkle, it is purrfect!”

“Before I give you your gift, I am thinking you could tell our readers a little about your Gotcha Day,” Periwinkle tells Stinky.

Stinky’s Story

“If that’s what I need to do to get my gift, here goes. Our housekeeper and kitty sitter, Chris, discovered me on Thanksgiving weekend in 2017. I was about four months old and weighed 3.9 pounds. I was hanging out on the deck of the vacant house next-door to what would become my new home. Chris began feeding me and set me up with warm blankets and a box on the deck. My now mom and dad were in Atlanta celebrating Thanksgiving with family while this was happening.

When they arrived home and found out about me, Dad Tom immediately retrieved me and brought me inside at his and Mom Janet’s house. By the following morning Dad Tom had named me. Mom Janet did post some ‘found’ cat notices on-line but received no replies. I became kitty number nine of the Kitties Blue, making for the most kitties in residence at any time. So that’s how I got gotted”

“That’s a great gotcha story, Stinky. Do you know how you ended up at that vacant house?” asks Periwinkle.

“No, I was just a baby, and I don’t remember.”

The Gift & Cake

Periwinkle tells Stinky that it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that he got a wonderful home with fursibs and a great mom and dad. Then Periwinkle hands Stinky his present.

“Periwinkle, I love this. I am going to have my mom put it next to the photo she has of me in the bedroom. Then we can be together all the time. Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome, Stinky. Now it is time for the best part of any Gotcha Day party, the cake. Cooper Murphy made it in Mau’s Cat Scout Bakery.

Gotcha Day

“This is so cute. It looks like me when I was a grumpy little cat. Mau really taught Coop well.”

“Stinky, let’s cut this and share it with your mom and dad and your fursibs.”

“That sounds terrific, Periwinkle.”

The tabbies spend time enjoying their cake, visiting with Stinky’s family and sharing memories from the past three years.

Finally, it is time for Periwinkle to head home. Mom Janet makes certain she has cake for her mom and fursib. After several minutes of hugging, whispering and sharing whisker kisses, Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel and waves good-bye to boyfriend Stinky.

Stinky is overwhelmed by the wonderful party Periwinkle planned for him. He takes the photo of Periwinkle and climbs onto his mom and dad’s bed where he naps and dreams of Periwinkle.

The End

The tabbies are joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop hosted by Comedy Plus. You can do the same by clicking on the badge.

Please join uses tomorrow when we will celebrate Sawyer’s Gotcha Day.

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, TYEBE

Pawty Time

Today is an extra special day. It is Tyebe’s (The Canadian Cats) second Gotcha Day. I have been waiting for this day for months and months. And here’s why.

I fell for Tyebe the first moment I saw her. She and I have been friends and enjoyed lots of events together at Cat Scouts.

I wanted to ask her to be my girlfriend ages ago, but her mom said we could only be friends until she turned two. I am pretty certain she is going to say, “yes,” but I am still nervous.

While I await her answer, let’s pawty.

We have appetizers, sparkling cider and cake. So please help yourselves.

And for Tyebe, I have a special card and some flowers.

I’d really like to thank you for celebrating with us today. Please visit Tyebe as well at her party at The Canadian Cats and wish her a Happy Gotcha Day there.

Purrs and paw-pats, Cooper Murphy aka Gingersnap or Snap (with whisker kisses for Tyebe)

p.s. We will be moved back a day due to this special post. We will post our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday/Thankful Thursday post tomorrow and include Friday Fill-Ins with Caturday Art.

STINKY’S SOLO ADVENTURE & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Today, we have a special poet joining Teddy and Angel Sammy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) poetry challenge. He has taken a bit of liberty with the inspiration photo and is hoping his two ginger pals won’t mind.

Here’s that photo and his poem.

Stinky’s Solo Adventure

This man is obviously not acrophobic,
Or he’d have his feet planted firmly on the ground.
He has a unique vantage point to see the city
But does he look, or is he too busy?
Mom said this would make her dizzy.
She’d probably hold her breath,
Fearing she’d fall to her death.
But this looks to me like great fun…
Sitting on the tippy top, gazing all around,
making Mom’s heart skip a beat,
But she shouldn’t worry.
She knows I’ll land on my feet.

Thankful Thursday

Another thing we do on Thursday is join the Thankful Thursday blog hop hosted by Brian. This week we have several things for which we are thankful. First is the great vet visit Sawyer had on Tuesday. As Dr. Neel said on Facebook, he was a “perfect gentleman.”

Sawyer is always quiet in the car coming and going. Unlike several of his fursibs, he never makes a peep. Normally, however, he is a PTU pooper. But not yesterday! While at the office, he received his rabies shot, had blood drawn and his claws trimmed. He didn’t growl or try to scratch or bite anyone. Way to go, Sawyer!

But best of all, Sawyer’s blood work is all normal, and his phenobarbital level is in the therapeutic range. So, we will continue with his current dosage of that and the Keppra. His last seizure was a week ago Monday. They have been happening about a week apart, so his dad and I are thankful for these few extra days.

Cooper Murphy is thankful for all those who came to his party on Tuesday to celebrate his third Gotcha Day. He’s especially grateful to Stinky and Periwinkle for planning such an exceptional celebration.

He’s thankful for the cards he received and asked to share those he wasn’t able to post on Tuesday.

Thank you, Teddy!

Thank you, Timmy & Einstein!

This has been a wonderful week of thankfuls. We’ll be sharing them on Brian’s blog hop. If you’d like to share for what you are thankful, click on Brian’s badge.

HAPPY 3RD GOTCHA DAY TO COOPER MURPHY

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky: Part XIII

The moment Periwinkle emerged from the teleportation tunnel at Stinky’s house, he grabbed her by the paw and started to whisper in her ear.

“Periwinkle, we have a special project today for our adventure. We are hosting my big brother, Cooper Murphy’s, Gotcha Day Party. And we have no time to spare.”

Periwinkle replied, “Ooh, that sounds like fun. What do we need to do?”

“We need to decorate the room, select the food and arrange for the caterer, make certain Mau has a cake ready, order some flowers, invite all Cooper’s friends (especially Tyebe) from our blog, Cat Scouts and the TCC.” said Stinky.

“Stinky, that sounds like a lot of work. Do you think we can manage all that by ourselves?” Periwinkle asked.

“Sure, but we need to start right away,” said Stinky”

“Okay, what do we do first?”

Stinky said, “Make the invitation.”

“I can do that,” volunteered Periwinkle.

“Great, I’ll go arrange for the cake and food.”

Periwinkle returned very quickly with an invitation in her paws. “I have it, Stinky. What do you think?” she asked.

“It is purrfect. Do you want to get started on the flowers?”

“Oh, yes, please. I love flowers,” replied Periwinkle.

Again, she returned very quickly.

“Periwinkle, are you in there somewhere?” asked Stinky.

“Oh yes! Do you like these? I thought it would be nice to have flowers to match Cooper’s furs.”

“Of course, they are fabulous. Your selections are purrfect.”

Periwinkle giggled and purred and winked at Stinky.

“I arranged the food while you were doing the invitation and the caterers are delivering it now,” said Stinky.

“Stinky, this is an amazing feast. I cannot wait to try everything.”

“I’ll fix you a plate as soon as we change into or party clothes,” replied Stinky, and added, “I don’t think Cooper will mind.”

As Stinky and Periwinkle ran off to change, Periwinkle asked Stinky if he thought it would be okay if they wore their New Year’s Eve outfits and 2020 glasses.  Stinky told her that he was certain Cooper Murphy wouldn’t mind.

They were having a snack when Cooper entered the room.

“Hey, what’s all this?” asked Cooper Murphy.

The two tabbies ran forward holding the card they had made in their paws, and yelled, “Happy Gotcha Day, Cooper Murphy!

“Cooper, we have another card for you as well,” Stinky told him.

“Oh my cat, I am overwhelmed. This is the best Gotcha Day ever!” said Cooper Murphy.

“It’s not over yet,” said Stinky.

Periwinkle added,”Mau baked you a special cake, and we have invited all your friends to spend the day.” Then she ran off to get the cake.

Cooper couldn’t believe his eyes, and asked shyly, “Is that supposed to be Tyebe on my cake?”

The tabby youngsters started clapping and jumping up and down and answered, “Yes, do you like it?”

“Oh yes, thank you so much and thanks to Mau as well,” replied Cooper.

“We are so happy you like everything. Now let’s party,” said Periwinkle and Stinky in unison.

As the party would continue into the night, Periwinkle had received permission from her mom to stay over night and would return home on the morning.

The End

Happy Gotcha Day, Cooper Murphy

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY PART VII

Preparing for Thanksgiving

Stinky had moved the teleportation tunnel to the destination of Periwinkle’s and his next adventure and waited next to it. Of course, he was fidgeting with excitement and anticipation when she came whooshing out. Breathless, she threw her paws around Stinky’s neck and gave him a big squeeze.

Looking around, Periwinkle asked, “Where are we? This isn’t your house.”

Stinky replied, “We are at the locale of today’s adventure,” and he pointed at a sign above their heads.

Periwinkle read it aloud, “Cat Scout Mau’s Bake Shop.”

“I thought all the yummy smells would give it away,” said Stinky.

Periwinkle started bouncing up and down and said, “Oh, goody, we are going to spend the day eating delicious things.”

“Well, not quite,” replied Stinky. Seeing the pout on Periwinkle’s face he quickly continued, “Scout Mau is going to teach us to make pies for our humans for Thanksgiving.”

“Do we at least get samples?” asked Periwinkle.

“Of course,” replied Stinky, as he led her inside.

“Hi kids,” Mau said, as Periwinkle and Stinky entered the Bake Shop. “I’ve made you some bacon tarts so you will have plenty of energy for today’s activities. When you have finished those, make sure to wash your paws really well, and we will get started.”

As Periwinkle and Stinky ate their tarts, Mau explained, “We are going to be baking pecan and pumpkin pies today, and I will share the recipes.

Mau gave the youngsters time to eat their tarts while he gathered all the supplies for their pies.

When Periwinkle and Stinky were finished eating and their paws were clean, Mau gave them each a chef’s hat.

Mau assigned pumpkin pies to Periwinkle and pecan to Stinky, but the two asked if they could work together on both. They were so cute, Mau readily said, “Yes!”

Here is the pumpkin pie recipe Mau gave them.

Pumpkin Pie from Mau’s Great Grandmother

Piecrust: Mau’s mom uses the Pillsbury refrigerated piecrusts as she stinks at making a good flakey one, so that is what Periwinkle and Stinky will be using.

Filling:

1 15 oz. can of pumpkin
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
3 slightly beaten eggs
1 cup canned evaporated milk

Combine pumpkin, sugar, salt and spices. Add eggs and milk. Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake at 425 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Serve with unsweetened whipped cream. (Not the canned stuff.)

In the midst of mixing up the pumpkin pie filling, Periwinkle started giggling, as she noticed Stinky had managed to get pumpkin on his face. She offered to lick it off for him, and he readily agreed. “Hmmm, that sure is yummy,” said Periwinkle.

After getting the pumpkin pies in the oven, Stinky and Periwinkle couldn’t resist watching them for several minutes before starting on the pecan pies.

“Wow, Periwinkle, these sure smell pumpkinlicious, don’t you think?” “Oh, yes,” replied Periwinkle.

“Stinky are you and Periwinkle ready to start on the pecan pies?” asked Mau.

They replied in unison, “You bet!”

Southern Pecan Pie

Again, Mau gave the tabbies a premade Pillsbury refrigerated crust.

Filling:

3 thoroughly beaten eggs
2/3 cup sugar
Dash salt
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup (or more) pecan halves (Mau always adds lots more, as he likes the pecans to be throughout the pie, not just on top.)

Pour filling into unbaked pie shell and bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once the pecan pie was in the oven, Mau asked Stinky to clean up the kitchen so he could give Periwinkle a tour of the Bake Shop. This, however, was a ruse on Mau’s part. Instead he took Periwinkle to another part of the bake shop where he had an already baked cake waiting. He asked her if she would like to help decorate it for Stinky’s Gotcha Day, which was yesterday.

“Of course,” Periwinkle replied, and Mau gave her the supplies she would need.

When the pies were out of the oven and cooling, Periwinkle presented Stinky with his cake. He was totally surprised and gave Periwinkle a big hug and thanked both her and Mau for such a thoughtful gesture.

The three sat down and enjoyed cake and ice cream.

When they finished their celebration snack, the tabbies admired their pies.

Mau wrapped up the pies for Periwinkle to take home to her mom and fursibs. (Mau would make two more the following day for Stinky’s and his family.)

The tabbies thanked Mau for inviting them to the Bake Shop and teaching them how to make pies. They turned in their chef’s hats and headed toward the teleportation tunnel.

Stinky gave Periwinkle a big hug and several whisker kisses and said, “Thanks for sharing another adventure with me. I am so thankful to have you in my life. Please wish your family a happy Thanksgiving from me and my family.”

Periwinkle reciprocated with hugs and whisker kisses, and wished Stinky and his family a happy Thanksgiving.

The two youngsters held paws for a while longer, not wanting to say good-bye. Finally Periwinkle gave Stinky a wink and a wave, picked up her pies and entered the teleportation tunnel and was whisked away.

Stinky stood by the tunnel for several minutes wiping tears from his eyes. He was already missing Periwinkle and couldn’t wait for their next adventure.

SAWYER’S GOTCHA DAY & SPARK

Awww Mondays

Normally I begin our Monday posts with Sparks, but today I am switching things up, as today is special. It is Sawyer’s second Gotcha Day.

We do have photos of him from his first day with us, but they are a bit blurry, so I am sharing a photo from three days after his arrival.

Sawyer always looked like a grumpy old man in his early days with us, and it was evident that he really didn’t like us much. He has mellowed during the last two years. He will allow us to pet him sometimes, and he often chooses to snuggle up and sleep next to Dad Tom or me. Best of all, he allows me to kiss him on the head.

Our baker, Mau, made a cake for the whippersnapper and we have hot chocolate. Please join us as we celebrate our little pal.

We are so grateful we were able to rescue Sawyer and give him a good life in spite of his seizure disorder.

Sawyer is joining the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. To participate, click on the badge below.

Sparks

With Thanksgiving later this week, I selected a Spark expressing thankfulness. I am using one of Dad Tom’s photos as the background image.

I have used a quote from Ralph Marston for a Spark back in September, 2018. Marston was a football player who attended Boston University. He spent a season as a professional in the National Football League in 1929 with the Boston Bulldogs as a quarterback.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Many of us still continue to post a Spark on Monday, as we believe in Annie’s vision: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

This fun-loving, tabby duo will return tomorrow with the next installment in their adventure series. It is Stinky’s week to post, and I know both he and Periwinkle will be looking forward to seeing you here tomorrow.
