A SQUIRREL WALKS INTO A BAR

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

We have gone off script again today with our poem, and hope our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday hosts, Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats), will forgive us. Instead of writing a poem based on this week’s inspiration photo, Mom wrote a poem and created a meme to enter in The Sixth Annual Contest of Whatever! held by the Evil Squirrel’s Nest. If not for Teddy and Sammy’s mom, Pam, we wouldn’t even know about the contest, so we’re pretty certain they will forgive us.

A Squirrel Walks Into A Barre…

Bar…stupid, not barre.
I ain’t no prissy ballerina,
and this ain’t no juice bar.
I want the hard stuff:
Singapore Sunflower Sling
and make it a double.
That dang cat, Sawyer, has
been pestering me all day
with his, “Hey, give those
birdies a chance” and “get
your fluffy butt off the feeder.”
He’s just jealous ’cause he
doesn’t even have a tail.
So, what’s up with that?
And who the heck does he think
he is—the squirrel police?
He needs to mind his
manners or he’s gonna
find himself on the bizness
end of these teeths. I
ain’t gonna be intimidated
by no pussy in need of
a catitude adjustment.
I am the ruler of the yard,
the master of the bird feeder.
When that whippersnapper
learns to walk the high wires
or build multi-level tree forts,
I might give him the time of day:
Yeah, as in…”Beat in Buster…
It’s squirrel drinking time!”
I plan to taunt that little bugger
until one of us croaks.
No cat is going to push me around!
Now, where the heck is that bartender?

Just because we deviated from the Thoroughly Poetic Thursday plan doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit Two Spoiled Cats to read Angel Sammy’s poem. It’s always a winner.  Click on the badge below to go to Two Spoiled Cats.

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday, we also join the Thankful Thursday blog hop hosted by Brian.

Mom and Dad are super thankful that progress finally is being made on the addition with electrical, HVAC and plumbing being in process. The roof and windows should be installed next week, and Mom and Dad have selected bathroom fixtures, cabinets and countertops.

We like to give a Sawyer update on Thursdays, but we have nothing good to report this week. Unfortunately, he’s had two grand mal seizures this past week, just five days apart, and another visit to the Emergency Vet. Sawyer has asked to give you an update tomorrow. Though our little brofur hasn’t had a good week, we are thankful that he lives with us, and Mom and Dad are able to give him the love and care he needs.

CONTEST WINNER & PUZZLE

Caturday Art Winner

When I posted our Caturday Art, I announced a contest. The first person to guess the number of Kitties Blue in the art and name them correctly would win a surprise prize for themselves and their cat(s). Of those who guessed…no one guessed correctly. I was going to select  a winner (using Random.org) from all those who listed the correct number of kitties, but then I decided whoever got the correct number, which was six, and correctly identified the most kitties would get the prize. Only one commenter guessed six and correctly identified five.

Here’s the original photo cropped down.

And the winner is…

Marv is winner

Marv correctly identified Sawyer, Cooper Murphy, Lisbeth, Mau, and Calista Jo. He also guessed Astrid, but the sixth cat was Misty May. Congratulations Marv! The runner-up only identified three of the Kitties Blue.

Caturday Art Puzzle

One of those who commented on Caturday suggested I turn the art into a jigsaw puzzle, which I have done. It is 300 pieces, but if that is too much for you, you can customize by clicking on the “Play As” option on the upper right. It took me an hour and 33 minutes spread out among three or four sessions. I usually can do a 300-piece puzzle in 70 to 100 minutes. So it is difficult. Hope you have fun with it.

KITTIES BLUE CATURDAY ART CONTEST

Caturday Art

Ivy Caturday Art

Today’s photo was taken when Chris came to clean the house. On the floor is nip, fresh and packaged. And that’s a Temptations package in the foreground.

I usually crop all the extraneous things out of the photos so as to just show Kitties Blue. Today, however, I liked all the colors and interest these objects provided and so retained them in the photo. To create this art I used only two apps and two steps. I used the Ivy effect from Painnt, and the flower border is from piZap.

I thought it would be fun today to offer a prize to the first commenter to determine how many cats are in the photo and identify each one correctly. Easy Peasy. The prize will be a surprise but include something for the cat (if the winner has one) and the human. Due to the guessing game, I will not be sharing the original photo today. I’ll do that when I announce the winner.

Sunday Selfies

Tomorrow we will be remembering and honoring our sweet and handsome friend, Purrince Siddhartha. On Friday LadyMum Sherri-Ellen posted a good-bye to her little man at BUUDHA KAT CALLED MEE HOME TO HIM…. If you have not seen that post, click on the title to go there. Dharth’s final Sunday Selfie will be posted tomorrow.

We hope you will join us for Sunday Selfies as we say good-bye to our dear friend.

COULD YOU USE $1500?

Well that’s a stupid question. Of course you could. Think of all the cat treats you could buy or the number of vet visits $1500 could cover. So now that we’ve established you could use the money, we have a second question for you: Are you crafty?

Now that we’ve got your attention, we must preface the remainder of this post by letting you know that Kitties Blue is not giving away $1500. But we know someone who is. We are talking about Tuft + Paw, manufacturers of modern cat furniture. They are giving away $1500 for the best cat bed design.

Contest Details

Here’s the info you’ll need to get busy and create a unique and original sustainable design for the cat bed.

1. It’s sustainable: As part of Tuft + Paw’s commitment to environmentally responsible products, it must be made of ethically sourced and produced materials that don’t harm our planet.

(If you are not quite sure of what sustainability is with regard to the environment, here’s the definition:  The quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance from the extraction of raw materials until the final disposal. Some examples are cork, bamboo and recycled rubber.)

2. It’s affordable: When your piece goes into production, Tuft + Paw wants it to be inexpensive enough that any cat owner can have it in his or her home.

3. It’s beautiful: Don’t skimp on style—Tuft + Paw wants to see something that adds a “wow” factor to modern homes and looks more like it belongs to an interior designer than a Tabby cat.

4. It’s easy to ship: Tuft + Paw wants your design to be their customers’ go-to choice when they donate an item to a shelter. This means it has to be lightweight and easy to ship. Bonus points for collapsible flat-pack shapes.

5. It’s practical: Along with your physical prototype, include technical drawings that specify exact dimensions and instructions for how it will be produced.

Lisbeth has an additional request.

Lisbeth wants the contest winning bed to be comfy.

Deadline & Additional Details

Submission deadline is October 31, 2017, which means you better get busy now. The winner will be selected prior to November 30. Their design will be produced in the United States and promoted as one of Tuft + Paw’s new products. Additionally, the new bed will be donated to shelters across the country. If winning $1500 doesn’t motivate you, Kitties Blue certainly hope the promise to donate beds to shelters will.

Finally, please visit Tuft + Paw by clicking on their link in the first paragraph. It’s an excellent idea to see their products prior to beginning your design process. Kitties Blue are certain you will be impressed. Additionally, you just might find something your kitty cannot live without.

Disclaimer: We agreed to promote the Tuft + Paw design contest in exchange for one of the completed beds and because we like the fact that they will be donating beds to shelters.
