CANDY CANE GINGER CAT

Caturday Art

candy cane ginger cat: A ginger tabby cat lies under a Christmas tree. His orange furs have been turned red and green. The photo is surrounded by a candy cane striped frame with green bows.

Cooper Murphy is lolling under the Christmas tree in this photo from December 25, 2018.

His ginger furs have been changed to red and green with the Vintage Holiday Vibes effect from Painnt. I changed the hue to get the Christmas colors and bumped up the saturation slightly. The frame is, of course, from the favpng app.

I also created a jigsaw puzzle for all our puzzling fans.

Cooper Murphy will be heading over to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s blog to participate in her Caturday Art blog hop. Click on her badge to join Cooper there.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Please join Kitties Blue tomorrow for week #486 of our Sunday Selfies blog hop. I know, as Christmas draws near, the humans in your house are probably busy shopping, wrapping, decorating and baking but see if you can get them to take a few minutes to help you snap and post your selfie. All your friends will be here looking forward to seeing you as will whichever Kitty Blue comes forward and takes over selfie and hosting duties. Your guess is as good as mine with regards to whom that might be.

So, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow and thank you for joining us today.

Have a terrific Caturday.

THANKFUL FOR CHRISTMAS

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday Kitties Blue and I like to share the things for which we are thankful, and Christmas is the perfect time to do that.

Periwinkle and Stinky are thankful their gingerbread cats tasted delicious; though, they may have looked less than appetizing. (Periwinkle and Stinky shared photos of our three Christmas trees in their post on Tuesday. Click on the link in the previous sentence if you’d like to see them.)

Kitties Blue are not only thankful for heated floors on cold days but also radiators.

thankful for Christmas: Three cats (a grey one, a Manx grey tabby and a torbie cat) warm themselves on a radiator.

I am thankful I have completed at least 90 percent of the gift wrapping duties.

The gang and I are thankful to those of you who have sent us holiday greetings. Unfortunately our cards will be arriving at your homes after Christmas, as I failed to order them in a timely manner. (We don’t want any of you to think we have forgotten you when you do not receive a card prior to Christmas.)

Kitties Blue and I are thankful to each of you for being our friends, following our blog and leaving comments.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop, hosted by Angel Brian. To join, click on the badge below.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday also is the day when we share a poem based on an inspiration photo selected by Angel Sammy and Teddy from Two Spoiled Cats. Here is today’s fun photo followed by my poem.

thankful for Christmas: Mr and Mrs. Santa Claus in front of a U.S. Air Force plane.

Christmas is Saved

It’s difficult to deliver gifts
when all the reindeer call in sick!
But Mrs. Claus knew of a resource
and called in the U.S. Air Force.
They loaded up Santa’s sleigh and goodies
to deliver to all the world’s kiddies.
Santa was thankful Christmas was saved
and upon the Air Force bestowed great praise!

Each week Angel Sammy transmits his poem from the Rainbow Bridge to Teddy for publication. He is one of Kitties Blue and my favorite poets, and his poem always gets an A+ from us. Pop on over to Two Spoiled Cats, by clicking on the poetry badge, to check out Sammy’s poem and get the photo for next week’s challenge.

Thanks for dropping in today. Hope to see you again tomorrow for Feline Friday and Friendly Fill-ins.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCXIV

Periwinkle Arrives

Stinky stands by the teleportation tunnel with paws poised to catch Periwinkle on her arrival. He doesn’t want her to go crashing into Twinkle’s tree. His mom upgraded Twinkle’s tree from a four foot tall one that Stinky’s fursibs knocked over at least twice each holiday to a 7 1/2 foot tree. He knew if Periwinkle went tumbling into that, she would hurt herself.

Stinky doesn’t have long to wait. He hears the familiar whoosh from the teleportation tunnel, and Periwinkle tumbles out into his paws. After several paw hugs and whisker kisses, she exclaims breathlessly, “I know we are staying at your house today. My mom read it on your blog yesterday and told me. I always enjoy spending time at your house, as I get to visit and play with your fursibs. And I cannot wait to see all the decorations. Are we going to help wrap gifts again like we did last year.  That was super fun?” (Here’s a link to last year’s post if you missed it: Christmas 2022 with Periwinkle & Stinky.

“No, I have another plan for us. It too will help my Mom, and it is something we already know how to do!”

“Ooh what? We know how to do oodles of things!”

Gingerbread Decorating Day

Stinky tells Periwinkle they are going to help his Mom bake cookies, especially gingerbread ones. He continues, “Today in the USA is Gingerbread House Day and Gingerbread Decorating Day.”

“Do we get to build a gingerbread house?”asks Periwinkle.

“Unfortunately, no. Mom says they take a long time for the frosting to set up, and we wouldn’t be able to finish it. We’ll just make and decorate the cookies.”

“Well that sounds like fun. Let’s get started.”

“Good idea. We are going to make Sally McKenney’s My Favorite Gingerbread Cookies. If our friends would like to make them, they can click on the link,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Have you made these before, Stinky?” asks Periwinkle.

“No, these are special because of Gingerbread Decorating Day,” Stinky explains. He then tells Periwinkle that his mom and some of her friends like Chewy Ginger Molasses Cookies, which his Mom will make another day. He leaves a link for those who would like that recipe.

Making the Dough

“Let’s get this dough made, Periwinkle. It has to chill before we can cut out our cookies. While it is doing that, we can look at all the decorations and maybe have a nap under Twinkle’s tree.” Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the kitchen where they put on their aprons and chef’s hats and get busy mixing up the gingerbread dough.

“Wow, Stinky, the recipe said this dough would be sticky, and it sure is. I don’t think I’ll ever get it out from between my toes.” Stinky giggles and promises to help Periwinkle with that chore.

Once they have the dough mixed, they wrap it in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge. After getting help from Stinky’s mom to clean their paws, they head back to the foyer to check out Twinkle’s Tree.

Twinkle’s Tree

Periwinkle Stinky Gingerbread Decorating Day: Christmas tree with cat ornaments and two cartoon tabby cats.

Periwinkle hops on the table to get a better view of the tree. “Wow, Stinky, there sure are a lot of kitty ornaments on this tree. I even see one of Mau. But I see other ornaments too.”

Stinky explains that Twinkle’s tree originally had metal ornaments with a variety of subjects, as well as snowflakes and clear plastic prisms. But as the tree is now bigger, his mom was able to add all her cat ornaments that aren’t breakable.

“I know our dough has longer to chill, Stinky, so let’s go hang with your fursibs for a while.” They find most of them in the bedroom, napping in sun puddles. Periwinkle wakes up Audrey and Kizmet for some girl talk while Stinky has a quick snooze.

When they hear Stinky’s mom call out that it is time to cut out their cookies, Periwinkle and Stinky hop up and head back to the kitchen.  Mom Janet has everything set up for them. They make quick work of cutting out gingerbread kitties and putting them in the oven.

Bear Tree

While the first batch of cookies is baking, Periwinkle and Stinky check out the bear tree in the dining room along with the mantle where all the stockings are hanging.

Periwinkle Stinky Gingerbread Decorating Day: Christmas tree with bear ornaments and two cartoon tabby cats.

“Stinky, this is another beautiful tree. I love all the different types of bears and all the other ornaments as well. Your mom sure has lots of ornaments.”

“She’s been collecting them for 50 years and has received lots of them as gifts from my dad and her friends,” Stinky explains.

Baking Progress

When the tabbies hear the timer on the oven go off, they head back to the kitchen. They get their cookies out of the oven, prepare another batch to go in and get ready to roll out more dough.

Periwinkle Stinky Gingerbread Decorating Day: Two cartoon tabby cats making gingerbread kitty cookies.

“Stinky, we sure are making good progress. Once we finish with the baking and cooling, we will be able to decorate our gingerbread kitties. Did you notice I made a couple without tails just for you?”

“I did, Periwinkle. That is so sweet. Thank you,” Stinky replies and gives her a whisker kiss.

After getting all their cookies baked, the tabbies leave them to cool. Periwinkle asks Stinky, “Can we check out the tree that Kitties Blue are not allowed near?”

“Yes, but we must be very careful to close the door behind us,” he replies.

The Off-Limits Tree

Periwinkle Stinky Gingerbread Decorating Day: Christmas tree with glass ornaments and two cartoon tabby cats.

“Stinky, I definitely can see why Kitties Blue are not allowed in here. That’s a lot of breakable ornaments. And look, there’s one with my angel sisfur, Allie, and your angel brofur, Mau.”

“That was good spotting, Periwinkle. I’m not certain anyone else will be able to pick it out.”

“I bet my mom will be able to find it. I know it was a gift from her,” replies Periwinkle.

Decorating Cookies

Gingerbread kitty cookies“I guess we should get our cookies decorated, Periwinkle,” says Stinky, taking Periwinkle’s paw and leading her back to the kitchen.

“Yikes, Stinky, our cookies don’t look very nommy. I didn’t know we would be so bad at decorating. Maybe we should have asked Cooper Murphy to help us.”

“Mom says that it’s not our fault, Periwinkle. She didn’t look to see what she needed for the icing when my dad went shopping, so she had to improvise.”

“Well, I am super happy she is posting a very small photo of them,” Periwinkle exclaims.

“Let’s pack up some of the undecorated ones for you to take home. I know you and Mom Sharon can do a better job with decorating.”

“Thanks, Stinky,” says Periwinkle and gives him a kiss on the cheek. “I guess it’s time for me to head home. I sure had fun baking with you, visiting with your fursibs and seeing all the pretty decorations.”

After several whisker kisses and paw hugs, Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel, and with a final wave and a whoosh she is on her way home. Exhausted from his day of baking, Stinky retires to the bedroom to nap with some of the other Kitties Blue.

The End

Stinky and Periwinkle will hop over to Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday. You can join them there, by clicking on the badge below.

Thanks for joining Periwinkle & Stinky today.

CHRISTMAS: TONIC FOR OUR SOULS

Awww Mondays

In a few days, Kizmet will celebrate her third Gotcha Day. That definitely earns her the opportunity to say, “awww” and share her last photo from PetSmart prior to joining the Kitties Blue gang. I don’t think she was actually saying, “awww,” but instead screaming, “Get me the heck out of here…NOW!”

Grey cat in a cage saying, "awww."

I did share this photo on the announcement of Kizmet’s arrival. It was entitled, “My First Selfie,” and posted on week #332 of our Sunday Selfies hop on December 20, 2020.

Kizmet will be joining the Awww Monday’s blog hop at Comedy Plus. Click on the badge below if you would like to do the same.

Sparks

With Christmas just two weeks away, I am sharing a Spark representing the holiday, which really spoke to me.

A photo of sheet music, greenery and gold jingle bells with the quote: "Christmas is a tonic for our souls. It moves us to think of others rather than of ourselves. It directs our thoughts to giving." from B. C. Forbes.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Tomorrow is that special day each week when Periwinkle and Stinky set out on a new adventure. Tomorrow they will be staying here at Stinky’s house, as we have snow in the forecast. Though they will not be teleporting off to someplace exotic, I guarantee they will be having fun. And, if you join them, you’ll enjoy yourself as well.

They’ll be looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Please don’t let them down!

Thanks for joining us today.

ASTRID’S CHRISTMAS WREATH SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #486

Astrid curled up partially on my chest and partially on my shoulder yesterday, and a miracle occurred. She agreed to snap a selfie. Unfortunately, as she does so often, she turned away just as she took the photo. I still think she looks pretty good.

Tuxie cat selfie framed with a Christmas Wreath.

Each day and each week since Misty May passed away, Astrid has gained confidence. She’s beginning to spend lots of time downstairs with Dad Tom and me! Much of that time, she is sitting on me. She also enjoys burrowing into my neck and tap dancing her signature and unusual four-paw knead on my stomach. And she loves to wake one or the other of us up super early. I try to pull the covers over my head before she realizes I’m awake.

Right now she is draped across my stomach and blocking the computer screen, which is one of her favorite tricks. I am thankful she wasn’t here for the cropping and framing of her photo!

Time to Hop

You all know how this goes. It’s now your turn to show Kitties Blue, and all your other friends, your amazing selfie that shows how adorable you are. If your humans are as busy as I am with holiday preparations, I know you may not get here today. But, as always, that’s okay. Astrid will be waiting here for you through Thursday.

Kitties Blue and I appreciate you continuing to support our hop after more than nine years. That commitment is incredible and has not gone unnoticed. We are so grateful.

Thanks again for joining us today.

KIZMET’S CHRISTMAS CATURDAY ART

Caturday Art

I wanted to do some Christmas-themed Caturday Art for today. I selected a photo of Kizmet from Christmas Day 2020. It was snapped six days after her Gotcha Day. She’d already settled in and enjoyed a box from one of the gifts we had opened.

Cat sitting in a box for Christmas Caturday Art with a fuchsia frame with holly berries and leaves.

As far as a piece of holiday art, this came out super quirky. But I do like it. I used the Pinwheels Spin effect from Painnt. To that I added the Perplex filter from piZap at 100 percent. The frame, as usual, is from the favpng app.

I did create a puzzle for all our jigsaw fans.

Kizmet will be participating in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. To join in, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

I have my fingers crossed that one of the Kitties Blue will step up and snap a selfie for tomorrow. I know those of you who join us on Sundays are more cooperative than any of our kitties. Maybe one of them will agree to park themself under one of the Christmas trees and snap something fun and colorful! You’ll need to join us tomorrow to see if I have any success in coercing one of the gang to put their best paw forward.

Thanks for joining us today. The kitties and I both will be looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

CHRISTMAS 2019 FLASHBACK & FILL-INS

Feline Friday

Once again, I have no new photos of Kitties Blue, so I searched the archives for something holiday related. I found this photo of Lisbeth from Christmas Day 2019.

Christmas 2019 flashback: Tuxedo cat in a Christmas tree cat tent/bed.

Lisbeth will be participating in the Feline Friday blog hop hosted by messymimi’s meanderings. If you’d like to do the same, click on the badge below.

Friendly Fill-Ins

The Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop is hosted each Friday by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They publish the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. To join the hop, click on the badge at the left.

Once again, my faithful helper, Sawyer, has come through for me. He completed the fill-in for sentence #4. We both used teal italics to fill-in. Any explanatory information is in parentheses.

  1. Some of my favorite Christmas songs are (traditional carols) “What Child is This” and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and (contemporary Christmas songs) “Christmas, Baby Please Come Home” and “Last Christmas.” (There are very few Christmas songs, whether traditional or contemporary, that I don’t like, which is why I selected songs from both categories to fill in.)

2. I like to watch the movie, Love Actually, every year at Christmastime.

3. I would call this the most bright and festive time of the year.

4. Sawyer: If I were on Santa’s naughty list, it would probably be because I don’t eat my noms, as they have my meds in them.

Thanks for stopping in to see us today. We’ll be here tomorrow with some Caturday Art and hope to see you again then.

FIRST CHRISTMAS SELFIE OF 2023

Sunday Selfies: Week #485

Tuxedo cat with a Christmas frame with two big green bows, garland and candy canes.

When Lisbeth is in the top perch of the dining room cat tree she is a calm and happy cat. It’s the purrfect place for her to snap a selfie.

It’s the first of our Christmas selfies, and Lisbeth is proud to be representing today.

Hopping Time

Lisbeth is looking for all our friends to join in the hop. You can see from her selfie that she has her eyes on you! If your humans are like me, they may be busy with holiday decorating and cannot get you the hop today. That’s okay, The hop is open through Thursday, and Lisbeth will be here waiting for you.

Kitties Blue and I appreciate each of you for joining us on this hop as well as for visiting and commenting on our posts.

We wish you a happy and easy Sunday!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M DOING THIS WRONG?

Looking Back

This week’s Looking Back post is from December 8, 2012. It is entitled, “No. 1 Kitty, Skooter, Loved Christmas.” I think you will enjoy it, as you will have the opportunity to learn a little bit about Dad Tom’s and my first cat. If you do like the post, Kitties Blue and I hope you will consider leaving us a comment on it.

As always, thanks for visiting.

A DREAM COME TRUE & THANKFULS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

What with the holidays, COVID and my site issues, I have not participated in Two Spoiled Cats’ (Teddy and Angel Sammy) poetry challenge for a few weeks. I am back with a poem today and had some fun adding Audrey and Raleigh to the inspiration photo.

A black tabby kitten and an orange tabby kitten on a kitchen counter covered in dirty dishes.

A Dream Come True

Let’s see what tasty morsels these humans left behind.
If we each want something yummy, we must form a line.
One too many cats upon this countertop,
And all these dishes will hit the floor with a pop.
Shards of glass don’t mix well with noms,
So we must be careful where we place our paws.
The humans must not guess our plan,
Or we won’t get any of that pot roast or flan.
This sight is something from every cats’ dreams.
Now we must execute an attack without making a scene.

If you haven’t been participating in Teddy and Angel Sammy’s poetry challenge, I recommend you give it a try. It’s the perfect opportunity to get creative. Check out Two Spoiled Cats, by clicking on the poetry badge, for next week’s inspiration photo. And please read Angel Sammy’s poem. He’s one of our very favorite poets.

Thankful Thursday

Thursday is the day we share the things for which we are thankful. Then we join Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop.

Kitties Blue are thankful for all the Christmas cards they received from their many friends. They received significantly more than Dad Tom and I did, but they are much more social than either of us. At some point they’ll share their cards here.

Sawyer, Dad Tom and I are thankful he’s not had a seizure in a few weeks. This is the first time I have ever lost track of exactly how long it has been. Another fault of combining COVID and the holidays. To Sawyer’s credit, he has been doing a much better job of eating, which means he is getting more of his meds.

Though, I haven’t shared any in a couple of weeks; I am thankful I have been able to continue work on updating older posts that were missing critical SEO data. I will begin sharing links under the heading, “Looking Back,” again next Wednesday.

Lastly Kitties Blue and I are extremely grateful to those of you who have continued to visit while our e-mail notifications have not been working. I continue to try to come up with a solution to this problem. If any of you using WordPress.org for your site are using a subscriber plug-in that works well for you, could you please share that information with us in the comments. (There is a very slim chance you may get a notification tomorrow if you are a subscriber, but I wouldn’t put any money on it.)

Thanks for being followers, friends and supporters.
