RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY 2021

Remembering Angels

Today we have the opportunity to remember our pets that have transitioned to life at the Rainbow Bridge with Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. There they wait to be reunited with their humans. Too many of our friends received their angel wings this past year, and we have remembered them throughout the year. Though, I won’t be listing them here; each of them is in our hearts and thoughts, and their humans are in our prayers.

Dad Tom and I have two woofies, Smack and Poppy, at the Bridge. We also have 12 kitties currently waiting for us: Skooter, Steamer, Daphne, Thelma, Louise, Chloe, Twinkle, Madison, MacKenzie, Fiona, Lily Olivia and Mauricio. Each was special in his/her own way, and we miss them all.

Caturday Art

My art for Athena Cat Goddess’ Caturday Art blog hop is in remembrance of three special kitties. Just over one year ago, our sweet and gentle (Mau)ricio left us, and then six-weeks later his beautiful and equally sweet wife Allie (Friends Furever) flew away to join him on September 3, 2020. And this year on April 19, Lisbeth’s handsome and loving boyfriend Charles joined Allie and Mau and all the other Cat Scout angels. We miss these special cats dearly and always will, so we honor them today.

History of Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day was started by Deb Barnes from The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey. It came from her desire to find the love, beauty and dignity in saying goodbye to Jazz, her Ragdoll cat, who she let go of on August 28, 2013. Each year we use this day to remember our beloved furry friends that have left us. Deb is hosting a blog hop, which you can find here.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow is the last Sunday in August. I don’t know where the year has gone. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. I am definitely ready for this ghastly hot summer to be behind us, but not ready for 2022. Anyhoo, tomorrow is the day when we all put on our happy faces and take our selfies. We always look forward to seeing just how adorable each of you are. And we know all your fans and friends do as well. So, please join us. We always appreciate your participation and support.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART LXXXVII

Best Friends Day

Stinky stands near the teleportation tunnel waiting for Periwinkle to arrive. He is holding gifts for her in his paws and doesn’t want to get too close. Periwinkle usually comes tumbling out of the tunnel right into Stinky’s paws, and he wants to avoid dropping anything.

Best Friends Day

Periwinkle is confused when she tumbles out of the tunnel with the usual whoosh, and Stinky is not there to catch her. When she sees him, she squeals with delight, especially when she sees his gifts. “Stinky, what have you got? Are those beautiful flowers for me and those doughnuts? What is the occasion?”

Stinky explains to Periwinkle that June 8 celebrates lots and lots of different things, and they are going to to get involved with three. While handing Periwinkle the flowers, he tells her, “I have never asked you your favorite color or favorite flower, so I hope you like these yellow roses.”

“Oh yes I do, Stinky. Why did you select these?”

Stinky explains, “Today is Best Friends Day, and you are both my girlfriend and my best friend. Yellow roses represent friendship, joy and caring. They convey happy thoughts and positive feelings of warmth. As my girlfriend you bring all those things to my life.”

Periwinkle wipes a tear from her eye and gives Stinky a big hug and whisker kiss prior to asking him about the doughnuts.

Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day

“Today also is Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day. Cooper Murphy helped me make these special ones in his Cat Scout Bake Shop. They are filled with a special catnip jelly.”

“Can we have one now?”

Stinky tells her, “Of course,” and hands Periwinkle a doughnut and then takes one for himself. They spend several minutes smacking their lips and licking their toe beans, as they enjoy their yummy doughnuts. After finishing the first one, they look at the others longingly and decide to each have another.

“Are we going anywhere today, Stinky?”

“Nope, I hope that’s okay,” he replies and adds, “But I do have something else for you.”

A Poem

Periwinkle starts to bounce from paw to paw in anticipation. Seeing this, Stinky gets very nervous. Then he begins to recite…

Periwinkle, you are my best friend,
And I know you will be until the end.
You are beautiful and kind
And hold a special place in my heart and mind.
We always have fun when we are together
But seeing you more often would make my life better.
I know that cannot happen since we live far apart,
So you will be always in my dreams and my heart.

“Oh, Stinky, you wrote me a poem. That is the sweetest thing ever. Thank you so much!”

“I know it was sort of lame, but I am happy you like it,” Stinky tells her apologetically.

“Stinky, it wasn’t lame at all, and I love it. You are the best boyfriend ever,” Periwinkle whispers as she hugs him tightly.

Hugging her back, Stinky tells Periwinkle it is time for the third celebration of the day; though, it is not actually a celebration. It is a remembrance.

World Pet Memorial Day

Stinky tells Periwinkle that June 8 also is World Pet Memorial Day, created by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), as a day when humans can memorialize their pets that have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. The AVMA suggests some ways to do this, including the creation of a photo collage or scrapbook of the beloved pet, the planting of a tree in their memory or donating money or time to an organization that helps animals.

“Stinky, are we going to do something special for our fursibs that are now angels?”

Stinky tells Periwinkle, “Yes, but not all of them. That would take us all week. We are going to do a special memorial photo for your sisfur, Allie, and my brofur, Mau, as they were the last ones to leave our families as well as husband and wife.”

“Oh, I really like that Stinky. Let’s do it now.”

The tabbies get busy making their special memorial. When finished they show it to Stinky’s mom and dad, who are very impressed and proud of Periwinkle and Stinky for doing something so nice and thoughtful.

Stinky stifles a yawn and asks Periwinkle if she’d like to have a nap and then another doughnut and some Temptations before she has to leave for home. Periwinkle agrees that would be a terrific idea, and the tabbies head to Stinky’s dad’s chair where they curl up together for a nice long snooze and cuddle.

The End

Periwinkle & Stinky are joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus.

ANGELS & GNOMES IN ART

Caturday Art

Today’s art is somewhat unusual, especially for me. The main image was taken by Dad Tom a few days ago.

angels and gnomes

This is the gnome from our garden with some angel visitors added. Before Allie & Mau became angels, they dressed as gnomes for a Cat Scout birthday party. When I saw the photo Dad Tom took, I just knew they needed to be part of it. I add them using piZap and set the opacity at about 60 percent.

Angels, Allie and Mau, and Mr. Gnome are participating in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by the lovely Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. If you would like to join them there, click on her badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Another week has flown by. It is almost unimaginable to think you need to snap selfies again already. But you do, and Kitties Blue sure hope you’ll share it with them and all your other friends. And the sooner you take care of that task, the sooner you can get down to taking it easy! Until tomorrow…

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART LII

Mad Hatter’s Day HiJinx

Mad Hatter's Day

Stinky sits quietly but impatiently by the teleportation tunnel. He wants to jump up and down, but his mom is watching him closely, and he doesn’t want to get in trouble. He has not been eating well, which means he hasn’t been getting all his meds. His mom is worried he will get too excited and the inevitable will happen. She does not want Stinky to have a seizure in front of Periwinkle and frighten her. He’s pretty sure he will be okay after having a seizure last night, but he hasn’t totally recovered and is tired. So, he holds his excitement inside.

Finally, Periwinkle arrives. She tumbles out of the tunnel with the usual whoosh right into Stinky’s paws. Periwinkle can see immediately that something is wrong. She gives Stinky a big hug and says, “You look really unhappy today. Didn’t you want me to come?”

Stinky hugs her back and replies, “Of course, I wanted you to come. Tuesday is always my favorite day of the week, as we get to be together. It is just that my mom won’t let us do anything fun or exciting.”

Periwinkle replies, “Don’t you know by now that the only thing I care about is being together? We don’t have to do anything but hold paws and chat.”

Stinky sighs heavily and tells her that what he has planned amounts to just slightly more than that, and he hands her an elaborate hat.

“Stinky, this is so gorgeous,” gushes Periwinkle. “Should I put it on?”

Stinky nods, “yes,” as he dons an equally elaborate hat and explains to Periwinkle that today is Mad Hatter’s Day, named for the character in Alice and Wonderland.

Periwinkle asks, “Are we going to have a Mad Hatter’s Day tea party?”

Prepare to Have Your Funny Bones Tickled

“Nope. As we already had a tea party adventure, we are going to celebrate it by wearing our top hats and engaging in silly fun. We are going to tell Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland-themed jokes. Mom said we can nibble on some nip and Temptations while we do it, so let’s head outside to our usual picnic spot. Maybe, we can give our readers a few chuckles. ”

Mad Hatter's Day

“How are we going to do this, Stinky?”

“I had Mom download some jokes from the internet, and we can take turns telling them.”

“Can I go first?” asks Periwinkle, as she picks up the printout.

P: “What’s the Mad Hatter’s favorite tea? Insani-TEA!

“Tee hee, that is funny,” chuckles Stinky. “My turn.”

S: “How did the Cheshire cat become so wise? He always reads the mews!

P: “Why doesn’t the Queen of Hearts go to the Mad Hatter’s tea parties? He doesn’t serve royal-TEA!

S: “What does the Cheshire cat say when he is disappearing? Get meow’t of here!

“Do you think our readers are chuckling?” asks Periwinkle.

“Gosh, I hope so ’cause this is seeming pretty lame. Let’s each just tell one more,” replies Stinky.

S: “What do you call the Mad Hatter when he’s calmed down? The Hatter! Well, that one is just dumb,” adds Stinky.

P: “Why did Alice ignore the Cheshire cat? He wasn’t very purr-suasive.

“I am really sorry this is such a tame adventure, Periwinkle. Is there anything else you’d like to do?”

Remembering Allie and Mau

“Can we take our Temptations and sit on Mau’s bench for a little while and remember him and my sisfur Allie?”

Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her across the yard to the bench.

Mad Hatter's Day

“This is such a peaceful spot, Stinky. I sure hope Allie and Mau are happy and having fun with all their friends and fursibs who are also at the Bridge.”

Stinky wipes a tear from Periwinkle’s eye and gives her a whisker kiss. “I am sure they miss us as much as we miss them. I just keep reminding myself that we all will be together again and until then we hold them in our hearts.”

“Thanks, Stinky,” says Periwinkle, as she wraps her paws around his neck and rests her head on his shoulder.

The tabbies sit quietly hugging until it is time for Periwinkle to head back to the teleportation tunnel and home. With a final whisker kiss, Periwinkle and Stinky say, “good-bye,” each already looking forward to next week.

The End

REMEMBER ME THURSDAY® 2020

Uniting the World for Orphan Pets

About 6.5 million animals enter animal shelters across the United States annually. In 2019, 733,000 of those were euthanized.

Remember Me Thursday® (in its eighth year) is a global awareness campaign encouraging individuals to light a candle (literally or virtually) and opt to adopt orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues.

We are joining Remember Me Thursday® and have lit a candle at RememberMeTursday.org in remembrance of Angels Mau and Allie (Friends Furever).

Candles lit on this day (the fourth Thursday of September annually) across the world honor the pets who lose their lives without knowing the comforts of a loving home. Of course, both Allie and Mau had wonderful homes,

These candles shine brightly on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. We pray all those pets will be as lucky as Mau and Allie were.

Our Youngest Rescues

Cooper Murphy and Sawyer were fortunate to become members of the Kitties Blue household. Neither made it as far as a shelter. Cooper was abandoned during a snow storm. Sawyer appeared at the vacant house next door to ours on Thanksgiving. Had Cooper Murphy been dropped off at a shelter, he probably would have found a home. Instead he was left to fend for himself alone outdoors. Sawyer on the other paw, with his seizure disorder, likely would not have been so lucky had he been taken to a shelter.

They are here today promoting Remember Me Thursday® to remind everyone that all pets deserve a warm and loving home.

Remember Me Thursday®

A few years ago, I wrote a poem about Kitties Blue to promote pet adoption and am sharing an updated version this year.

OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS

Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
Two humans’ hearts we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregivers.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.
And tell your friends to promote Remember Me Thursday®,
So kitties worldwide can have their special gotcha day!

NIPHEAD MISTY MAY OVERINDULGES

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #225

Fridays mean Fill-Ins. This blog hop offers participants an opportunity to get to know our fellow bloggers a bit better. It is hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They each select two sentence for us to complete. You can find the sentences on their blogs each Thursday.

This is one of those weeks when I needed a little assistance filling in, so I called on the boys to help. We all used teal italics for our fill-ins.

1. I wish I had been alive during no other time than this; though, life is pretty sucky right now!

2. My favorite way to have apples is just the way the come.

3. COOPER MURPHY: I was sad to find out that another cat, our friend Cat Scout Obi Trax, has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

4. SAWYER: Training humans to give you treats isn’t rocket science.

Feline Friday/Friendship Friday

Misty May is here today to participate in these two blog hops: Feline Friday hosted by Comedy Plus and Friendship Friday hosted by Create With Joy.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART XLVIII

Remembering Allie

Periwinkle sits impatiently by her teleportation tunnel waiting for Stinky. He sent her a note yesterday telling her he would be coming to her house for their adventure. She begins to fidget with curiosity when she hears the familiar whoosh and Stinky suddenly comes tumbling out of the tunnel into her arms. When Stinky looks at Periwinkle she is crying. He drops the package he is holding to wipe away her tears.

Periwinkle sniffles and says, “Stinky, I am so sad, and I miss my sisfur so much. I know she wanted to be with her husband Mau, but I wasn’t ready for her to go. My mom keeps crying; though, Raz and I try to comfort her.”

“That’s why I came to your house today, Periwinkle. I knew your mom would be even more sad if you left for the day. Plus, I brought a special gift for all of you, but especially for her,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Is that the package you brought? May I see it now?” asks Periwinkle.

“Let’s get your mom first.”

“Okay,” says Periwinkle as she runs off to get Mom Sharon.

“Hi Stinky, I am so happy to see you,” says Mom Sharon as she enters the room. “Periwinkle says that you have something for me.”

Stinky hands the package to Mom Sharon and tells her that he and his mom made the contents for her. She opens the package and finds a beautiful scrapbook inside.

The Scrapbook

With tears running down her cheeks, Mom Sharon gently takes Stinky in her arms, gives him a big hug, and asks if they should all sit together and look at the scrapbook.

The tabbies nod in agreement and snuggle up on either side of Periwinkle’s mom.

“Oh, Stinky, this is so beautiful. Thank you,” says Mom Sharon.

Periwinkle leaps over her mom and gives Stinky a big kiss. “You are the best, most houghtful boyfriend…thank you, thank you, thank you. I love this, and I love you!” Periwinkle quickly slaps her paw over her mouth. She hadn’t meant to blurt that out and hopes Stinky didn’t hear. Mom Sharon gives Periwinkle a cross look for her impetuousness.

Though Stinky’s cheeks start to flush, he sees Periwinkle is also embarrassed and decides to make believe he didn’t hear by pretending to clean his face of leftover breakfast he’s just discovered.

“Would you two like to have a snack outside while I show this to Raz?” asks Mom Sharon, changing the subject.

The tabbies nod in tandem and head for the door. Both know it is too early in their relationship to say the “L” word.

After their snacks, a nice long nap and a hunt for lizards in Periwinkle’s yard, it is time for Stinky to say his good-byes. Stinky thanks Mom Sharon for her hospitality and gives Raz a manly hug. Even sadder than usual, Stinky and Periwinkle hug and share whisker kisses. With a final wave, Stinky enters the teleportation. With a whoosh he is gone.

Periwinkle, Raz and Mom Sharon stand together hugging each other and think about Allie and how much they miss her.

The End

RAINBOW BRIDGE SELFIES

 Sunday Selfies: Week #317

On Thursday afternoon Dad Tom took this photo. We didn’t know it at the time, but it was there to welcome a special and precious cat to her new home.

Rainbow Bridge

Our beloved sister-in-law, Mau’s wife Allie, received her golden wings and flew off to the bridge to join Mau. She’d been feeling unwell for a little while, and Mom Sharon knew she was ready to be with Mau, her sisfur, Ellie, and her dad, Bill. Though, we know she and Mau are happy to be together again and are holding each other tightly, while they watch over us all; it is a loss that has devastated Allie’s mom, Sharon, and her fursibs, Raz and Noelle, as well as our entire family. We were all blessed to have Allie in our lives and will miss and remember her always.

We created a special collage of Mau’s favorite photos of Allie for our selfies today. Mom Sharon also has a special Allie post. To visit Friends Furever and leave your condolences, please click on Allie’s collage.

Rainbow Bridge

A couple of other friends also received their wings on Thursday. We had planned to honor them today, but will do so tomorrow on our Sparks post.

Hopping Time

We now invite you to hop with us. The link is below. Remember: You don’t have to post on Sundays to join the hop. It remains open through Thursday.

We’d  be grateful if you’d link back to The Cat on My Head or display our Sunday Selfies badge, but neither is necessary to join the hop.

Purrs and paw-pats, Misty May, Giulietta, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

p.s. If you missed us the last couple of days, we apologize for not posting on Friday or Saturday. Though, we think it a pretty lame excuse; Mom had some health issues and had to spend a little time in the hospital. No worries, she’s home now and okay!

ALLIE & ANGEL MAU’S FOURTH ANNIVERSARY

Remembering Paris

Today is Allie (Friends Furever) and Angel Mau’s fourth wedding anniversary. Mauricio had already planned the party, and we felt we should celebrate as he’d wished in honor of him and his beloved wife.

One of Mau’s favorite trips was the one he and Allie took to Paris with Cat Scouts in 2015. Consequently, he had planned a Paris-themed party with the intent of sharing this special photo of Allie.

He also had some additional photos from that trip he wanted to share.

Anniversary Celebration

When Cooper Murphy volunteered to take over the baking duties at Mau’s Cat Scout Bake Shop, he was happy to see Mau had the anniversary event entirely planned. He also had the recipe and decorating instructions for the cake recorded.

We think Cooper did a pretty good job following Mau’s instructions.

4th anniversary

Please join us for cake and champagne and then help yourself to all the other goodies.

Also, help yourself to kitty macarons and anything from the dessert table to take home for your humans and fursibs.

Finally Mau left an anniversary card for Allie. We are so happy that Cat Scouts taught Mau to be prepared. He left very little for us to do to pull off this party!

4th anniversary card

We did help Mau out by adding the halo to his photo on the card.

We hope you have enjoyed this party. Mau is here in spirit.

Thankful Thursday

Admittedly this has not been our best week, but we still have much for which to be thankful. Mauricio was in our lives for more than 15 years. He was a character who kept us entertained, and he loved absolutely everybody. He kept us safe by patrolling the yard and guarding the front porch. Most importantly, he watched out for the other feline family members. We loved him dearly, as did his lovely Allie and so many others. We feel fortunate and thankful to have had him in our family.

Dad Tom and I cannot express just how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received here, on Facebook and at Cat Scouts. Your friendships mean the world to us.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. To join, post on your blog for what you are thankful and then click on Brian’s badge to add your link.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

We did not write a poem today for Teddy and Angel Sammy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) poetry challenge. We hope they’ll forgive us. A poem based on this week’s inspirational photo will be included on our Friendly Fill-Ins/Feline Friday post.

EIGHTH BLOGOVERSARY

Our First Eight Years

This is our 2,310th post and our eighth blogoversary.

When Kitties Blue and I started this adventure, I knew nothing about blogging, had no idea how many cat-centric blogs existed and did not know by striking out on this endeavor I would meet so many like-minded people or make so many wonderful friends.

I am not going to run through a litany of milestones from the past eight years, but I do want to share a few.

Three new kitties joined our household.

Three beloved cats gained their wings.

We began our Sunday Selfies blog hop on August 17, 2014, and have posted it for 310 consecutive weeks. Lisbeth was our first host.

Astrid married Sampson “Sampy” (Kitty Cat Chronicles) at Blog Paws on May 23, 2016.

Mauricio married Allie (Friends Furever) on July 23, 2016 at Cat Scouts.

Along with Friends Furever we began the series, “The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky,” on October 8, 2019, alternating posts each Tuesday between the two blogs. In fact, Periwinkle & Stinky are off on another adventure today over at Friends Furever. These two little tabbies are always getting into some kind of mischief, and they truly enjoy sharing the fun times with our readers. Pop over and read today’s adventure by clicking the above link to Friends Furever.

These are merely a few of the highlights from the past eight years. We hope you have enjoyed this mini-retrospective and continue to visit us as we go forward.

Angel Lily Olivia, Angel Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer and I appreciate each and everyone who has ever visited or commented. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be here. Thank you, friends! You have made all our lives better and more interesting.

Finally, Kitties Blue are joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus. You can do the same by clicking on the badge below.
