Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
I am joining Angel Sammy and Teddy’s poetry challenge at Two Spoiled Cats. Below is today’s inspiration photo. Once again I have opted for a haiku.
Congregation gone
Where did they go…to heaven
Or just out to brunch
I was not trying to flippant with my haiku for this week’s inspiration photo. It actually made me sad. It reminded me of when Dad Tom and I visited the site if our marriage—the chapel on Treasure Island (Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco). After the naval base was decommissioned, most of the buildings were demolished. When we saw the chapel in September of 2017, it was abandoned, sequestered behind a chain link fence and surrounded by mounds of excavated earth. There was a petition to save it, but I don’t believe it was succesful.

Thankful Thursday
Kitties Blue and I were pretty excited to earn a badge on the Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats by correctly identifying the Teaser. We weren’t first. That honor goes to Timmy and Einie. Nonetheless, we got this cool badge.
If you are a regular follower, you will have read in the past that I believe in silver linings. A silver lining may not be something for which you are thankful but something that makes an otherwise unpleasant thing not as bad. For example: Due to my neuro-muscular disease, I have not had to shave my legs in more than 20 years. I believe my female readers will understand just how much extra time that has given me to spend with the kitties and do other things I enjoy. With that explanation, I present this week’s thankful and silver lining.
Sawyer went ten days without a grand mal seizure and then had three (each four days apart). Dad Tom’s and my thankful is that they each stopped after a few minutes with no need for valium or a trip to the emergency vet. And I discovered the silver lining. Sawyer is Manx cat and has no tail. That makes it much easier to clean the poo off his little butt. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make him like it, which is why I have bloody arms. Forgive me if this is too much information. But this is how life is these days.
Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by everybody’s friend, Brian. To join the hop, post on your blog for what you are thankful, and then click on Brian’s badge.
That was a great poem. It is always good to look for the silver linings. Have you tried welding gloves? I use them to give KaTwo her thyroid meds. XO
loved the haiku and photograph. There are many sad deserted little churches dotted around New Zealand as well
We’re glad you can find those silver linings when you can. Continued purrs for Sawyer…
Oh Sawyer sweetheart, we are thinking of you. Purrs.
Not at all TMI -we know exactly what you mean- and he isn’t long-haired ! Hopefully the meds are helping shorten his seizures.
Good haiku about abandoned places.
I am glad the seizures stopped before needing to take him to the vet, and continue to send good thoughts for him.
I liked haiku. When we had a road trip around Ireland we saw so many abandoned cottages. When we asked about it we were told it was because so many had left trying to escape the potato famine and starvation.
On the trials and tribulations of doing things to kitties that they don’t want done. I pray for Sawyer each day. Bless his little heart.
Have a wonderful Thankful Thursday, Janet. Scritches to all the kitties and extra to Sawyer. ♥
I liked your haiku, and the irony. I am considering NOT shaving my legs ever again; why is this even a thing? We women have put up with enough body-shaming; time to be as nature intended us! Ah, Sawyer. Let’s hope he goes much more days without a seizure. Hugs and purrs.
We agree, sometimes it’s sad to see buildings that had special meaning.
We’re glad Sawyer’s seizures didn’t require an ER visit. Noelle wants him to know that she ate breakfast this morning and had a better night. She hopes he did too.
The Florida Furkids with tons of love and smoochies to Mau from floofy Allie (you don’t even want to THINK about cleaning up after HER) and pawpats and headbonks to Sawyer from Noelle.
So sad to hear that little Sawyer is still having seizures but glad to hear that they were of short duration. I, too, hate to see so much old and beautiful architecture fall into disrepair and/or get demolished. I pray little Sawyer is seizure free for the weekend and beyond.
It sure is sad about the chapel. Yes, that is a silver lining fur sure, purrs to you sweet Sawyer. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
There are so many abandoned buildings – we see a lot of barns and very old farmhouses around here for instance. We thought this brick building – whether church or schoolhouse or both – had for the most part stood the test of time and deserved a “new beginning”…..as what? I know sometimes my Mom would like to live in a small cottage surrounded by NOTHING because it would be nice and quiet! We send our little buddy Sawyer lots of hugs…..and prayers on a daily basis – it’s good that his seizures stop on their own so we think that’s some progress but will always, ALWAYS worry about him….he’s a real trooper. So are his parents! Thanks for writing a wonderful haiku!
Love, Teddy (and Mom)
I too am glad that the seizures Sawyer had weren’t bad enough to send him to the ER. I’m very sad that they aren’t stopping completely, though.
Sawyer, I hope you stop clawing at your Mom who is trying to help you…and I hope you stop having all those seiazures too. Purrs and POTP for you.
Years ago, after my parents had been married for over 25 years, I went with my Mother to her home town (In Nijmegen, Holland), and we walked to the church where she had gotten married…all that was left was an wrought iron fence and huge hole in the ground. My mother was on the verge of tears having that sweet memory ripped away from her before she could even show me. I have a picture of that and it is so forlorn…
Your Hiaku is very poignant.
Poor Sawyer (and you) – I don’t think I’d like it much either.
