TWO KITTIES BLUE TURN BLUE

Caturday Art

Audrey and Sawyer were just hanging out on the bed when I snapped their photo. I could not get Sawyer to look toward me, and it took several shots before I got Audrey with her eyes mostly open. Add to that the fact they are rather a small part of the photo, I didn’t think it was very usable except for some art. The way I see it, there are at least a variety of interesting textures in the photo.

Kitties Blue blue: Raleigh and Sawyer are turned blue into today's Caturday art.

To create today’s art I used the Cluster effect from Painnt. I tinkered with the hue to turn Kitties Blue blue and upped the saturation a tad. The frame is from the favpng app.

I did create a puzzle. I am sorry there is so much white space in the border.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

It’s time again for our weekly blog hop. Tomorrow and for the following seven weeks each of the Kitties Blue will be taking their turn in sharing a selfie. Thanks to the help of Dad Tom, the photos are all set to go. I cannot say in what order they will be presented, but if you have a favorite among our gang, you can count on that kitty being in the rotation prior to one of the others getting a second or even third opportunity to share a selfie. And I can relax knowing I am set with selfies for eight Sundays.

All the Kitties Blue and I are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, and we know your other friends will be as well. If you cannot join us tomorrow, you have through Thursday to add your selfie to the hop.

Thanks for stopping to see us today. Have a terrific Caturday.

AUDREY & RALEIGH VISIT VET & HELP WITH FILL-INS

Friendly Fill-Ins

The Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop is hosted each Friday by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They publish the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. To join the hop, click on the badge at the left.

I did get some help this week from Kitties Blue. To my surprise, the youngsters, Audrey and Raleigh, stepped up. So, here are our fill-ins. We all used teal italics for the completions. Additional information is in parentheses.

1. Raleigh: I find my humans annoying.

2. PAWS of Connecticut is a favorite charity of mine. (As well as many other animal rescues/shelters.)

3. I often have to explain about my neuro-muscular disease to others.

4. Audrey: There’s a lot of deprivation in my life these days. (Raleigh and I had our annual vet visit on Tuesday. Dr. McBane said we are both overweight. That’s probably why Mom and Dad call me Hoover and are limiting my treats.)

Feline Friday

Here are a couple of photos from Raleigh and Audrey’s vet visit. The humans in the photos are Dr. Kaitlyn McBane and vet tech, Monet. They’re the best!

Audrey and Raleigh will be participating in the Feline Friday blog hop hosted by messymimi’s meanderings. If you’d like to do the same, click on the badge below.

If you missed our Remember Me Thursday post yesterday, I hope you will check it out by clicking on the link at the end of this post. I normally post at midnight, but due to a glitch with the post, it didn’t come out until around 9 a.m.

I also hope you will join us tomorrow for some Caturday Art.

Thanks for dropping in here today. Kitties Blue and I truly appreciate it.

REMEMBER ME THURSDAY WITH KITTIES BLUE

Remember Me Thursday

Today is the one day a year we remember all those animals that have lost their lives while waiting in shelters for adoption as well as those still waiting. Though the numbers have consistently decreased over the past decade, more than one million pets are euthanized annually. That truly breaks my heart!

Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center created this day, and it is celebrated around the world. Kitties Blue and I have been participating for many years. This day offers each of us the opportunity to share the story of pet adoption and let others know the joys of sharing their home with an animal. Changing just one mind about pet adoption can save a life.

You can spread awareness by sharing your pet’s story on social media with the hashtags, #RememberMeThursday and #SeeTheLight. Also visit the Remember Me Thursday website and light a virtual candle. I lit one for Misty May before publishing this post. I also will be lighting candles at home today. If you plan to do the same and have pets in your home, please use battery operated candles. (I will be using battery operated tea lights provided to me by the Remember Me Thursday organization.)

Kitties Blue

As most of you know, all of our past and present felines have been rescued in one way another. Several just showed up and asked to live here. Many others were the offspring of pregnant strays taken in by friends or friends of friends. Two, Lisbeth and Kizmet, were adopted from a local shelter (Angels of Assisi) and two, Astrid and Calista Jo, from a local TNR/Rescue group (Barn Cat Buddies). Dad Tom and I totally believe in “Adopt Don’t Shop.”

I really don’t like to think what might have happened to our 22 kitties and yes, two dogs, had Dad Tom and I not brought them into our home to care for and love.

Today I am sharing two collages with some of our past Remember Me Thursday photos and badges as well as the one I created for Audrey to share this year.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

As today is Thoroughly Poetic Thursday, I am sharing three poems from previous Remember Me Thursday posts. I am hoping Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats) will forgive us for not using today’s inspiration photo. You can still check out Angel Sammy’s Poem by clicking on his badge.

PLEASE OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS

Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
A human stopped in whose heart we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregiver.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.

LUCKY CAT

My name is Sawyer and I’m a tough little dude.
I’ve tons of moxie and a can-do attitude.
I am a Manx cat, which means I have no tail.
I’m also a grey tabby cat and a male.
I was found on the deck at a vacant house,
Living off of bugs and the occasional mouse.
Less than three pounds I weighed when I was found.
I thank God I wasn’t taken to the pound
but brought to a house on Thanksgiving weekend.
I didn’t know for myself I’d no longer need to fend.
I also didn’t know there were eight other cats
,
Or I’d be living a life only my wildest dreams could surpass.
When I was allowed to mingle, I made friends with a calico.
Her name was Lily Olivia and she was very old.
She died a couple months later as a matter of fact.
She was almost nineteen and, like me, a rescued cat,
I can only dream of becoming such a revered senior,
As I have a seizure disorder and my prognosis is poor.
It is hard to be just two years old and afflicted this way
And need to take medicine four times each day.
My seizures can be very scary.
Never knowing when one will happen makes Mom wary.
I’ve had a few that my humans were unable to stop,
Then into the car we have all had to hop.
My dad then drives us to the emergency vet
To get me stable and back home to rest.
Where with any luck I’ll have some quiet days
To spend on the catio and at the birdies gaze.
I have a big brother named Cooper Murphy.
He’s a huge ginger tabby and really quite goofy.
Like me he was rescued from living outside
When it was winter and snowing with no place to hide.
There are six more cats with whom I coexist.
Most are nice; while others are misfits.
They all can be a gigantic pain in my tush.
Nevertheless, I am one lucky puss.
I have a loving home in which to dwell
Where my life is grand and I’m treated swell.
And now I pray all animals can find good homes
And, like me, never again the streets have to roam.

LOOKING BACK & LOOKING FORWARD

Remember Me Thursday Reminder

Audrey is here today to remind everyone that Thursday is Remember Me Thursday.

A torbie cat is looking to the left (back) and to the right (forward) on a #Remember Me Thursday badge.

Audrey is looking back on being an outdoor, homeless kitten with her brother, Raleigh, and two other kittens. She is looking forward to continuing the wonderful life she now enjoys.

Visit Remember Me Thursday to find out more about the event, including their contest. Don’t forget to light a candle while you are there in honor or memory of a beloved pet. (I am not certain this feature is currently working. When I tried to put up a candle for Misty May, it didn’t work.) You will also find badges for your blog and frames (like the one above) to use on your blog or social media. Don’t forget to use the hashtags, #RememberMeThursday and #ShineALight.

Please join Audrey and the other Kitties Blue on Thursday and post about the event on your blog.

Thanks for visiting.

AUTUMN GINGER CAT

Sunday Selfies: Week #475

Selfie of a large ginger cat surround by autumn leaves.

So what do you think? Did I snap a good selfie? I don’t mean to be conceited, but I think I look pretty terrific with my gorgeous ginger furs framed with autumn leaves. In fact, I think I look so terrific, that I told Mom I wanted her to make a puzzle. She was happy to oblige me, but for some reason, she made it without the leaf border. More of me to admire, I guess.

Time to Hop

Now that I have shared my magnificent selfie with you, I hope you will share your selfie with all of us as well as your other friends. Participation was quite low last week. Mom is worried that we have done something to offend you all. She hasn’t been visiting much since Misty May developed her eye ulcer, as she was sleep deprived from having to do eye drops every four hours. Since Misty May passed, she hasn’t been feeling very social, but she promises to try to do better.

In case you have forgotten, the hop remains open through Thursday if you are too busy to join us today.

Finally, thank you so much for joining us today. We truly appreciate your support, comments and friendship.

Have an easy Sunday.

Purrs & paw pats, Cooper Murphy

KIZMET’S PEEKING ART

Caturday Art

I decided to go with another autumn-themed art creation this week, as today is the first day of fall. It is Kizmet peeking out from one of her undercover caves.

Grey cat peeking from under an afghan in an art photo in fall colors.

Of course, I used Painnt to create my art. This is the Embrace Love effect. I tinkered with the hue and saturation, and I am not certain what else. And, of course, the frame is from the favpng app.

Here’s a puzzle for all of you who enjoy a jigsaw.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Another week has flown by, and it’s time again to think about snapping a selfie for our hop tomorrow. As usual, I have absolutely no idea which of the Kitties Blue will be your host. Hopefully, you’ll be curious enough to want to find out, and you will drop in to see us and share a selfie. You know all your friends will be looking for you.

Have a happy and fun Caturday. Thanks for joining us today.

CAT SHARK ATTACK

Feline Friday

Sometimes Dad Tom does something totally out of character for him. In this case, I think his reasoning is more than slightly flawed.

cat shark attack: dilute tortoise shell cat in a shark costume in a three-photo collage.

Kitties Blue do not like costumes, hats, sweaters or any other form of attire. Dad Tom, however, thought it would be fun to have them dressed as sharks the next time Chris comes to clean. She always brings treats and/or nip, and the gang all swarm around her. Chewy has their costumes on sale: buy three get one free. We now have eight shark costumes. This is a very miffed Calista Jo modeling. I dared Tom to try to get one of these on Astrid, Sawyer and Raleigh. There will definitely be bloodshed in our future and quite possibly a shark costume giveaway.

Shark C.J. will be participating in the Feline Friday blog hop hosted by messymimi’s meanderings. If you’d like to do the same, click on the badge below.

I actually could have completed all the fill-ins myself this week without any help from Kitties Blue. Sawyer, however, asked if he could complete #1, and I cannot deny that boy anything. So, here are our fill-ins. We both used teal italics for the completions.

1. Sawyer: Noelle, Temptations treats and Friskie’s treats are a few of my favorite things.

2. If I had a lot of money, I would open a sanctuary for black cats.

3. You don’t have to be young to care for and love cats.

4. Aches and pains comes with age.

Thanks for joining us today. I apologize that I have been mostly missing when it comes to visiting your blogs. I definitely will try to do better beginning this weekend.

REMEMBERING MISTY MAY WITH THANKFULS

With apologies to Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats) I have decided to forego writing a poem this week in order to concentrate on thankfuls.

Thankful Thursday

Most of my thankfuls this week revolve around Misty May.

REMEMBERING THANKFULS: TUXEDO CAT IN AN AQUA LACE FRAME WITH A BUTTERFLY.

I am thankful Misty May spent her last day in my arms both before and after she passed. She deserved that consideration, comfort and love.

Dad Tom and I are thankful for all the kind comments and condolences left on the Sunday Selfies/Angels Birthday post, “Happy Nineteenth Birthday Angels.”

We also are thankful for the beautiful badges created for Misty May by Ann from Zoolatry, Ingrid from Meezer’s Mews & Terrieristical Woofs and Pam from Two Spoiled Cats. We know these take lots of time, creativity and work. That these wonderful friends did this for Misty May is so thoughtful and special.

Ann, Thank You!
REMEMBERING THANKFULS: tuxedo cat face surrounded by yellow, blue and pink flowers and a pink frame.

Ingrid, Thank You!

REMEMBERING THANKFULS: Tuxedo cat head and shoulders in front of a rainbow and surrounded by butterflies with a greent and yellow frame.REMEMBERING THANKFULS: Two tuxedo cats surrounded by yellow and pink flowers and an aqua frame.

Pam, Thank You!

REMEMBERING THANKFULS: Two tuxedo cat heads in front of a multi-colored hearts and wearing blue wings and halos.

I particularly appreciate that Ingrid and Pam included Mau.

I am thankful that Misty May is in her final resting place. She is in one of the flower beds with Madison and MacKenzie. I will be making her a special marker.

Dr. McBain, Kitties Blue current vet, who was recommended by our beloved Dr. Neel, is researching alternative methods for administering Sawyer’s medications, for which Dad Tom and I are extremely grateful. As many of you know, Sawyer is not very good about eating his meals due to the medications. He has had a seizure each of the past three weeks.

Finally, I am thankful that I am 0.6 pounds from reaching my goal weight thanks to Noom. With Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas looming on the horizon, I am thinking I may try to take off a few extra pounds now. I do not want to begin this entire process again when 2024 rolls around.

Thanks for dropping by to see us today.

I am joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. If you’d like to participate, click on his badge.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CCII

Meow Like a Pirate Day

When Periwinkle comes tumbling from the teleportation tunnel with the usual whoosh, Stinky greets her with a huge paw hug and an, “Ahoy, matey.” Periwinkle begins to giggle and clap her paws together.

“Oh, Stinky, I was hoping we’d be celebrating Meow Like a Pirate Day. It is such a fun holiday.”

“How could we miss it? Do you think all our readers know that is how you and I got our names?”

“Some may not. You should tell them.”

“Yes, of course,” replies Stinky. “Well, our names were actually our alteregos’, Noelle and Sawyer’s, pirate names. I could not find the reference to Periwinkle, but Sawyer’s pirate name was Captain Stinky One-Eyed Biggs.”

Periwinkle giggles. “That really is a silly name, Stinky. I like that I have a pretty name.”

“You should. It matches your beauty and sweet personality.”

Periwinkle blushes and gives Stinky another big paw hug and a whisker kiss. She then asks him what he has planned for today.

Whydah Gally

Stinky tells her that they are going to West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, to learn about the only authenticated and positively identified pirate ship, the Whydah Gally, which sank off the coast of Wellfleet, MA, on April 26, 1717.

“Wow, Stinky, that sounds really cool. Let’s get going,” says Periwinkle, as she takes his paw and leads him into the teleportation tunnel.”

When they arrive at their destination, the Whydah Pirate Museum, Periwinkle squeals with delight when she sees two of the pirates outside the museum. “Stinky, they look so real. Let’s get our photo with them.”

Periwinkle Stinky Whydah Gally: Two cartoon tabby cats in pirate hats with two pirate statues.

When they enter the museum, Periwinkle begins looking around for the actual ship. When Stinky sees her quizzical expression, he tells  Periwinkle that the ship is still at the bottom of the ocean where it was discovered 30-feet below the surface in 1984 by the shipwreck salvager and underwater archaeological adventurer, Barry Clifford. It is currently buried under 10 to 50 feet of sand, in depths ranging from 16 to 30 feet deep. It’s spread for four miles, parallel to Cape Cod’s easternmost coast.

“Well, phooey. I thought we were going to get to see and board the ship, Stinky.”

“I’m sorry Periwinkle, we will get to see a model and then a replica of the ship, which we can board.”

“I guess that’s okay. Let’s go see that model, while you tell me about it.”

Model of the Whydah Gally

“The Whydah Gally was built in 1715 as a slave ship. It was on its maiden voyage when it was hijacked by the pirate, Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy, shortly after leaving Jamaica where it had traded and sold 500 slaves from Africa, gold, ivory and jewelry. The ship was carrying precious metals, sugar, indigo, rum, logwood, pimento, ginger and medicinal ingredients back to England when Bellamy hijacked it. Bellamy and his crew used the Whydah to pirate additional ships. The Whydah had the treasure of 53 other ships on board when it sunk.”

Bellamy is best known as the wealthiest pirate in recorded history, and one of the faces of the Golden Age of Piracy.

Sinking of the Whydah

“How did it sink, Stinky?” Periwinkle asks.

“The 100-foot, 300-ton, 28-gun Whydah encountered a Nor’easter with 70 mile per hour winds causing ocean swells of up to 30 feet. Though, the captain and crew were within sight of land, they were unable to navigate in the storm and slammed into a sandbar stern first. The ship broke apart and all but two of the 145 men and one child aboard died. The two survivors were Welsh carpenter, Thomas Davis, and the ship’s pilot, 16-year-old Miskito Indian, John Julian. Julian was sold as a slave to John Quincey, the great-grandfather of president John Quincy Adams after the ship sunk.”

“Even though they were pirates, Stinky, that’s still pretty sad that only two people lived,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“The ship was carrying four and a half tons of stolen treasure. According to cartographer and commander of the Bay Colony’s naval militia, Cyprian Southack, at least 200 men plundered the ship of its bounty, including 180 bags of gold and silver.”

“Holy cow, Stinky, that’s a lot of money. Can we check out some of the artifacts here at the museum?”

“Sure, let’s check out some of the loot found aboard by Clifford.”

Items from the Whydah

Periwinkle Stinky Whydah Gally: two cartoon tabby cats in pirate hats with a trunk of coins.

“Stinky, think of all the stinky goodness and treats and toys we could buy with that money,” exclaims Periwinkle.

“I’m surprised I didn’t think of that Periwinkle.”

“Hey, Stinky, let’s check out that anchor.”

Periwinkle Stinky Whydah Gally: two cartoon tabby cats in pirate hats with a large ship anchor.

“I did not intend for you to climb on it, Stinky. Please get down,” Periwinkle requests. Stinky grudgingly obliges, and the tabbies move to the next exhibit.

They check out the bell from the ship, discovered by Clifford in 1985. It is inscribed, “The Whydah Galley 1716.”

The recovered bell from the Whydah Gally.

“Periwinkle, let’s check out some of the cannons and the ship’s replica.”

“Are you going to climb on the cannons Stinky?” Periwinkle asks.

Stinky giggles and replies, “Probably.” Periwinkle rolls her eyes.

Periwinkle Stinky Whydah Gally: two cartoon tabby cats in pirate hats with a replica of The Whydah Gally.

“Stinky, you can be such a troublemaker. One of these days you are going to get us kicked out of wherever we are visiting.”

“Maybe so, but until I do, I am going to keep having fun,” Stinky replies.

Once again, Periwinkle rolls her eyes. Then she grabs Stinky’s paw and pulls him down. They spend some time exploring The Whydah’s replica.

Concretion

When they exit The Whydah replica, Periwinkle spies a large and very strange looking object. She asks Stinky if he knows what it is? Having no idea, Stinky takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the object.

Periwinkle Stinky Whydah Gally: two cartoon tabby cats in pirate hats with a concretion from the wreck of the Whydah Gally.

“Periwinkle, the sign says, that this is part of a 3,500 pound concretion. Items encased in this mass of hardened sand and stone include human remains, plus what appear to be a pistol, cuff links, a belt and additional personal items. Taken from the wreck site several years ago, everything inside was protected over the centuries until conservationists started removing the material, and that is when they discovered the bones.”

“That’s cool and creepy at the same time,” says Periwinkle. She adds, “I don’t know about you, Stinky, but my paws are getting pretty tired, and my tummy is growling.”

“Aargh, Periwinkle, I think we should head back to my house and plunder ourselves some grub and grog!”

“Stinky, you are so silly, but I totally agree.”

Home Again

After a quick trip in the teleportation tunnel, the tabbies arrive at Stinky’s House. Stinky’s mom fixes them a snack, and they retire to the catio to enjoy the nice weather and visit with Stinky’s fursibs. Periwinkle tells them all how sorry she is about Misty May getting her angel wings. They all thank her for her consideration.

After their snack, it’s time for Periwinkle to return home. Before she leaves, Stinky tells her that they have shared just a small amount about The Whydah Gally and Samuel “Black Sam” Bellamy. He explains that a Google search of either The Whydah or Bellamy will bring up oodles of websites with additional information that their readers might find interesting.

Finally, it is time for Periwinkle to return home. She tells Stinky how much she enjoyed this unique Meow Like a Pirate Day adventure. She and Stinky share lots of whisker kisses and paw hugs. Then Periwinkle enters the tunnel, and with the usual wave, blown kiss and whoosh, she is gone. Stinky retires to the bedroom to nap and dream of his love, Periwinkle.

The End

The two tabbies will be joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus. To do the same, click on the badge below.
