The 150th Adventure

Stinky is waiting by the teleportation tunnel for Periwinkle when he hears the familiar whoosh, and she comes tumbling out. They fall into each other’s paws and share oodles of whisker kisses. When they are finally finished, Periwinkle asks what is on the agenda for their adventure. When Stinky replies, “nothing,” she is dumbfounded.

Periwinkle finally speaks, “What do you mean nothing? This is our 150th adventure. We should be doing something extra special. Am I just supposed to get back in the tunnel and go home?”

“Of course not, silly. I just mean that we are not going anywhere or doing anything special. We are going to do exactly what you have been wanting. We are staying here and playing with the kittens, Audrey and Raleigh.”

Periwinkle begins jumping up and down and clapping her paws together. “Oh, goody. Thank you, Stinky. That is special, and I think purrfect for our 150th adventure. Can you believe it? In a few more weeks, we will have been adventuring for three years?”

Stinky agrees about that being a huge milestone and then tells Periwinkle the kittens are already in the bedroom waiting for them. He continues, “I hope they’re awake. They seem to snooze almost non-stop and do most of their playing at night while the rest of us are sleeping.”

Following in Stinky’s Footsteps

“I bet you’re right,” replies Periwinkle. “I heard about the daring escape from the kitten enclosure of Saturday night. Have you been giving them pointers? I remember that before you took your walkabout in 2021, you had escaped to the roof a few times!”

Stinky’s face reddens as he remembers the three-and-a-half weeks he was missing. He offers to show Periwinkle the photo Dad Tom took of his discovery on Sunday morning in the hopes of distracting her.

“Oh, yes please,” Periwinkle replies to his offer.

“I am sorry that the photo is so blurry,” Stinky tells her.

“Stinky, that is so funny. What do you think happened?”

“Mom and Dad think one of us, probably Kizmet, jumped on the top of the enclosure from the table and that caused it to fold up.”

“Wow, I guess it’s a good thing Audrey and Raleigh escaped. They could have been squished,” replies Periwinkle and suggests they get started with playtime.

Kitten Playtime

When Stinky and Periwinkle get to the bedroom, the kittens are sleeping under the bed. Periwinkle asks Stinky if he thinks they can tempt them to come out with treats. He tells her the kittens are not impressed by treats, and they will probably have to wait them out. Not having any patience for that, Periwinkle gets a wand toy and heads to the bed. She finally entices Audrey to come out. She immediately heads for one of the cat trees and Raleigh follows.

Periwinkle hops up on the tree with Audrey and Raleigh, and Stinky joins them.

“Stinky are you going to come up? Audrey’s trying to see you through that hole in the tree.”

“I’m good here, thanks.”

“Maybe that’s a good idea. Audrey is sharpening up her kitten teeth. You and your fursibs might want to stay clear,” Periwinkle giggles as she tells Stinky.

“Stinky, the kittens sure enjoy playing on the cat trees. It is great that you have two in this room.

“Raleigh is a goofy cat,” remarks Periwinkle. “I sure hope he doesn’t fall out of the tree on his head.”

Tower Toy

“Stinky, I am going to see if I can get them to play with the balls on this tower toy.”

Stinky replies, “That’s one of Audrey’s favorites. I am certain you can get her to play.”

“She’s really good, Stinky. It looks as if Raleigh wants to challenge her.”

“Probably to a wrasslin’ match. They spend a lot of time throwing each other to the floor and letting loose with bunny kicks and neck bites.”

Periwinkle giggles imagining what a sight that must be.

“The kittens have never experienced boxes, so Mom put some out. Dad always says that if one wants to catch a cat, they only need to get a box. Let’s see if it works with Raleigh and Audrey.”

“Come on, Audrey, jump in. Boxes are lots of fun for playing and napping,” Periwinkle tells her.

“Hey, look, Periwinkle. Both kittens have gotten in a box.”

Periwinkle claps her paws together. “Just think of all the fun they are going to have in the future when boxes arrive at your house.”

“Yes, but they’ll have seven other Kitties Blue to compete with,” Stinky replies.

Wand Toy

“Audrey, come try this wand toy,” coaxes Periwinkle. “You can get it if you jump!”

Then it’s Raleigh’s turn to try the wand toy.

“Look, Periwinkle, Raleigh caught the fish! He’s looking at you. He wants to make certain you’ve seen him.”

“Raleigh, that’s terrific! You did a wonderful job,” Periwinkle claps and praises the kitten.

Mouse Game

The kittens have never played the Mouse for Cats game, so Stinky asks his dad to set it up, and he introduces Audrey to it.

“Stinky, look she’s a natural. She figured it out immediately. Where’s Raleigh? We need to introduce him to the mice.” Periwinkle and Stinky begin looking around for Raleigh. Finally, Periwinkle finds him under the bed where he has fallen asleep. “Looks like he is worn out, Stinky.”

Moments later Audrey joins Raleigh. “Well it appears as if they’re done for the day, Periwinkle. This is the longest and hardest I have ever seen them play. Let’s go to the catio and have a snack with the other Kitties Blue and leave these two to nap.” Stinky takes Periwinkle by the paw and leads her to the catio.

“Stinky, thank you so much for arranging for us to spend our 150th adventure with the kittens. I have waited an entire month for this, and I had such a great time showing them new things.” Periwinkle gives Stinky a big paw hug and whisker kiss, which he happily reciprocates.

Unfortunately, the time for Periwinkle to head home arrives. The tabbies spend lots more time hugging and kissing before Periwinkle enters the tunnel, giving Stinky a final wave, and she is gone in a whoosh.

Being just as tired as the kittens, Stinky returns to the catio for a nice long snooze accompanied by dreams of his wonderful girlfriend.

The End

Periwinkle, Stinky, Audrey and Raleigh will be joining the Happy Tuesday blog hop at Comedy Plus.

Awww Mondays

Audrey is here to brighten your Monday and help you begin the week with a smile.

KITTEN SHENANIGHANS: Tabby Kitten atop cat tree.

We woke very early yesterday morning to discover Audrey and Raleigh running around the house. We thought they were securely tucked into their enclosure Saturday night, but it seems we were mistaken. Later in the week, I will share a photo of what Dad Tom discovered when he went into the foyer, which is where their enclosure is positioned.

We believe the kittens must have run around and explored all night, as when I let them out in the afternoon for their usual bedroom playtime, they slept UTB for four hours!

Cats are opportunists, and kittens are particularly sneaky!

Audrey will be participating in the Awww Mondays blog hop hosted by Comedy Plus. Click on the Awww badge if you’d like to do the same.

SUNRISE SPARK: photo of Blue Ridge Mountain, Virginia, at sunrise.

I am using one of Dad Tom’s recent photographs of the sun rising from behind the Blue Ridge Mountains for my Spark today. I need a little extra strength right now, which I’ll explain in a later post. With new strains of COVID constantly popping up as well as runaway inflation, I think many of us are trying to muster up some extra strength to see us through this difficult time.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Many of us still continue to post a Spark on Monday, as we believe in Annie’s vision: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

This fun-loving, tabby duo will return tomorrow with the next installment in their adventure series. It is Stinky’s week to plan and post their adventure, so look for them right here tomorrow. I know both Periwinkle and Stinky will be looking forward to seeing all of you.

Sunday Selfies: Week #419

Grey cat is hiding from kittens amidst stored blankets.

When the kittens are having their daily playtime, Kizmet often joins them. Yesterday they were exceptionally rambunctious, and this was Kizmet’s defense. She tried hiding from them by climbing into the cabinet where we keep extra blankets. She decided it would be a purrfect place to snap her selfie.

A second photo exists that Kizmet and I think you’ll really want to see. I’ll share it on Wednesday, so please drop in again then.

Your Turn to Share

Kizmet and all her housemates are anxious to see your selfies. We all know they’ll be exceptional and make us smile. If you get it done quickly, you’ll have the entire day to enjoy your easy and cuddle with your humans. Of course, if you cannot participate today, you can join us anytime through Thursday.

Thanks to everyone who joins our hop, leaves comments, follows and supports us!

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Rainbow Bridge Day

Today is also Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, which was started in 2013 by Deb Barnes (Zee & Zoey’s Chronicles) in memory of her kitty, Mr. Jazz. It is a day to remember and honor all our family and friends with fur, feathers or fins to whom we have said farewell.

Many of our fur kids received their wings long before I began this blog, and today I am remembering them: Our dogs, Smack and Poppy, and cats, Skooter, Steamer, Daphne, Thelma, Louise, Chloe, Twinkle, Madison and MacKenzie. I also will be thinking fondly of those Kitties Blue who have passed since the inception of The Cat on My Head: Fiona, Lily Olivia, Mauricio and Giulietta. I will be remembering Mau’s wife, Allie, and Lisbeth’s boyfriend, Charles, as well.

You can find photos for all but Charles and dogs, Poppy and Smack, on The Felines page, which is on the menu bar at the top of this page.

Dad Tom and I have cherished and loved each and every one of our fur kids and remember them fondly.

Kitties Blue send purrs, and I send hugs and prayers to everyone who is remembering a beloved furred, finned, or feathered family member today.

Thanks for joining us. We appreciate each of you.

Caturday Art

Scrappy cat: Artistic version of a dilute tortoise shell cat in colors of pink and teal.

Calista Jo took this photo to use for Sunday Selfies, but her right eye looked a little wonky, so she decided not to use it. I liked how she had her mouth open and wanted to use the photo. She gave me permission to use it for today’s art.

I started with the Utopia effect from the Painnt app. To that I added the Scrapz filter from piZap at 50 percent and a frame from favpng. I quite like it and hope you do as well.

I did create a puzzle.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

That tomorrow is the last Sunday in August makes my head want to explode. 2022 being nearly 2/3s gone seems totally impossible. If the passage of time doesn’t slow down, Audrey and Raleigh will be all grown up, and I’ll be pushing up daisies.

Anyhoo…you all know what Sunday means: Time for selfies. As I used C.J.’s for art, I’ll be looking for another volunteer for tomorrow. Wish me luck. You all know how Kitties Blue are not fond of the process of taking selfies. At least I now have nine possible candidates.

Regardless of which of the Kitties Blue show up tomorrow as your host, they’ll all be looking forward to seeing you. And feel free to invite some friends. Until then have a terrific Caturday.

Feline/Frienship Friday

Feline/Friendship Friday consists of our kitten report.

They are absolutely the most laid back kitties. Neither made a peep to or from the vet or while we were there yesterday. They had blood drawn for their feline leukemia, AIDS and heart worm tests and are negative for all. Then they each got two injections, second distemper and first feline leukemia.

That all was after the weigh in. Cooper Murphy better watch out! Raleigh gained just shy of two pounds in four weeks. He was 2.56 pounds at his last weigh in and now is 4.5 pounds. He will be ready for his neuter surgery in four weeks.

Little social butterfly, Audrey, currently weighs 3.96 pounds. She gained almost as much as Raleigh. She was 2.24 a month ago.

Here are some photos from their visit.

kitten report: collage of six photos of 12-week old tabby kittens -- one orange and one brown.

Audrey is getting more orange in her furs, and I think she will turn into a torbie.

The kittens will be participating in the Feline Friday and Friendship Friday blog hops hosted by Comedy Plus and Create With Joy respectively.

Friendly Fill-Ins

As happens most weeks, I needed to get some help with fill-Ins. That help often comes from Sawyer, and it did again today. We both used teal italics for our fill-ins.

1. I collect a variety of items, but most have to do with cats.

2. I recently treated myself to two kittens!

3. I used to get my nails done every few weeks back when I went places (before COVID).

4. Sawyer: Though, I have never turned down treats; I have often refused to eat my noms.

Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs) host the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop. You can find the incomplete sentences on both blogs each Thursday if you’d like to participate. Click on the Fill-Ins badge to join the hop.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thursday is always time for Teddy and Angel Sammy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) poetry challenge. Here’s this week’s inspiration photo.

toddler boy.s on balance biles in colorful shirts and helmets competing in a race

As hard as I tried, for the second week in a row, I was unable to add one or more of the Kitties Blue to today’s inspiration photo. I was afraid they might get trampled by all the little feet.

Here’s my poem.

Where Are the Little Girls?

Check out all these little tykes
Speeding around on their balance bikes.
They really want to win the race,
So try to keep a rapid pace.
Their parents loudly cheer them on
But encourage them to just have fun.
And try their best to stay upright
And with their competitors not to fight.
But why are no little girls competing?
Are the boys afraid they’ll take a beating?
Time to make this challenge co-ed
And let all the kids go head to head.
As the fun should be for both girls and guys.
And it’s the best child who takes the prize!

Thankful Thursday

Thursday is also the day we count our blessings and list the things for which we are thankful.

Stinky is thankful for the wonderful adventure he had on Tuesday with Periwinkle. They visited the Kennedy Space Center and learned about the upcoming launch of Artemis 1. If you missed that post check it out at Friends Furever.

We’re all thankful that the kittens, Audrey and Raleigh, are doing great and growing fast. They have their second vet visit today, and I am anxious to find out how much they weigh. I’ll post a photo or two from that visit on Friday.

We are, as always, extremely thankful for your support, following and friendship.

Brian hosts the Thankful Thursday bog hop. To participate, post on your blog for what you are thankful. Then enter the URL for his blog in your browser (see badge) to hop along.

Sunday Selfies: Week: #418

We only had a few guesses yesterday as to which of the Kitties Blue was represented in our kaleidoscopic art.  Only one follower guessed correctly, Bad Cat Chris‘s Dad, Charles. Our mystery kitty was kitten, Audrey. And here is the photo from which I made the kaleidoscope. As I warned yesterday, it is rather blurry. Even so, I could not resist sharing this tongue-out selfie.

This is Audrey’s first Sunday Selfie, so she’s really hoping lots of you will join her here. You can link up today or anytime through Thursday. All animals are welcome regardless of species. Once you’ve linked up, you have the entire day to enjoy your easy with your humans and/or fursibs.

All the Kitties Blue, but especially Audrey, thank you for following, supporting and befriending us.

Caturday Art

Today’s art is a bit different from the norm. It is one of the Kitties Blue, and you are welcome to guess which one in the comments. The original photo is a bit blurry, so this seemed like a good alternative for it.

To create the art, I used the kaleidoscope effect from LunaPic and a frame from the favpng app.

I have done some kaleidoscopic art in the past but none since 2018. If you are interested in seeing any of the other pieces, here are the links.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow you will be able to find out which of the Kitties Blue is represented today. I will unscramble that kaleidoscope to reveal a selfie. Admittedly, the selfie will be a bit blurry, but it definitely will be worth your visiting to see it. And when you’re here, the kitties and I hope you will join the hop with your own selfie. As a reminder, you don’t have to post tomorrow to join, and the hop is open through Thursday.

Kitties Blue and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
