AN AWWW FROM THE CATIO & SPARK OF HOPE

Awww Mondays

Dilute tortoise shell cat lying on her back on the catio for Awww Mondays.

Calista Jo claims there’s nothing better than enjoying a warm and sunny day on the catio. The other Kitties Blue totally agree with her. I suspect all you other felines do as well.

Sparks

Photo of irises, peony and buttercups with the following quote from Joseph Addison: "Three grand essentials to happiness in this lifetime are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for."

I know we all have plenty to do, and we love our families and pets. Personally, my hope is that you all stay healthy and that Russia leaves Ukraine and ends this brutal war.

The photograph for today’s Spark is from our garden. It was taken by Dad Tom.

This is not our first Spark by Joseph Addison. We used a quote from him in the post, “Spark of Humanity for Ukraine,” using one of Dad Tom’s sunflower photos. You can learn more about Addison in that post.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

TUXIE CAT MISTY MAY’S 💖 SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #404

Tuxie Cat Misty May Misty May's 💖 (heart-shaped) selfie in a frame of multi-colored leafs.

Astrid and I snapped about ten selfies each, and this is one of two Mom thought was worthy of posting. The second photo is also of me, so you’ll see me again sometime soon. Astrid was sitting on Mom’s lap when she snapped her selfies. She couldn’t get a good angle with the iPad, which is why her photos weren’t very good.

Anyhoo, I am here today as your host, and I hope you’ll forgive me for looking down in my selfie. I suspect each of you who join us today will do a much better job than I did. So please share your adorable self with us. You know you want to show yourself off to all your friends.

Don’t despair if you cannot join in the fun today. The hop remains open through Thursday.

Thanks for your continued support and friendship. Have a purrfectly wonderful and restful easy Sunday.

Purrs and paw-pats, Misty May

ROSY GLOWING CATURDAY ART

Caturday Art

Kitties Blue spend a lot of time napping just like every other cat on the planet. So, you shouldn’t be too surprised that for the second day in a row, I am sharing a photo of a snoozing feline. This time it is Sawyer, and he’s the subject of today’s Caturday Art as well.

rosy glowing Caturday Art of a napping Manx tabby cat.

I am fairly certain if Sawyer sees this, he won’t be thrilled with the girly look! He likes to think he’s a tough guy.

But I like it, and I think his girlfriend Noelle will as well. And if she’s happy, I know Sawyer will be too.

When I selected the Rose221 effect from Painnt, I sort of expected a less than masculine-appearing outcome. Adding the pink, flowery frame from favpng pretty much sealed the deal!

This is Sawyer’s entry in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. Should you wish to enter or merely check out additional art created by your fellow bloggers, click on Athena’s badge.

Here’s the jigsaw for all our puzzle fans.

Sunday Selfies Tomorrow

This is your early warning to get your selfies snapped. We’ll go live, as we always do, Sunday at midnight, and Kitties Blue will be looking for your selfie in the gallery. Which one of the gang will be your host is still to be determined, so you’ll need to stop in to see who it is. Until then have a terrific Caturday.

SLEEPING GINGER TABBY SANS BELLY

Feline/Friendship Friday

Today’s photo for the Feline and Friendship Friday blog hops is a flashback from 2017, which I never shared here on the blog. It’s yet another photo of Cooper Murphy sleeping. What makes it unique is that Cooper Murphy is not lying on his back displaying his ample belly. He does, however, give you a peek at some of his toe beans.

When Cooper wakes up, he’ll be joining the blog hops at Comedy Plus and Create With Joy.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #311

On Fridays Kitties Blue and I fill-in, along with friends, Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs) and Ellen (15 And Meowing), who jointly host the blog hop and select the sentences to be completed.

Sawyer volunteered to help me again this week. We both used teal italics for our fill-ins.

1. Sawyer: If you see me wrapped up in a towel sleeping, it means I had a seizure.

2. I am feeling sad as well as angry about the cruelty of the war in Ukraine.

3. I wish I could go back and relive the moment when I was eating the most, incredibly delicious, chocolate soufflé in Paris in 2013. (If you’d like to see some photos from that trip, check out the post, “Paris Photos #1.”)

4. I would like to swap lives with any one of Kitties Blue for a day.

If you’d like to participate in this hop, check out either Ellen’s or Lorianne’s blog on Thursday for the sentences to be filled in. To hop, click on the Fill-Ins badge.

Thanks for visiting. Happy Friday!

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART CXXXIV

Periwinkle’s Confusion

Periwinkle wanders around the house in confusion. It is Stinky’s day to plan their adventure, but he told her not to teleport to his house. And he didn’t give her any coordinates for the teleportation tunnel so she could meet him somewhere. She asks her mom if she knows anything about it, but Mom Sharon claims she doesn’t.

Periwinkle is on the verge of tears when she hears rumblings from the teleportation tunnel. She runs toward it, but before she can get there, she hears the familiar whoosh, and Stinky comes tumbling out. Without her there to catch him, Stinky slides across the floor right into Periwinkle’s real cat sisfur, Reesie, who has come to check out what’s happening.

Stinky picks himself up and apologizes to Reesie before going to Periwinkle to give her a whisker kiss and paw hug. She accepts them but then whaps Stinky on the head.

“Hey, what’s that for?” he asks Periwinkle, as he rubs his head.

“I thought you’d forgotten all about our adventure when you told me not to come to your house, and you didn’t give me coordinates for my tunnel,” Periwinkle tells him.

Stinky apologizes and tells Periwinkle that since her house is on the way to their destination and he wanted it to be a surprise, he decided to stop and pick her up. Before she can reply, Stinky takes her paw and leads her back into the teleportation tunnel. Moments later they arrive at their destination. Periwinkle looks around and sees only ocean and sand. She gives Stinky a perplexed look and asks him why they have stayed in Florida?

Arriving on Tortola, B.V.I.

Periwinkle & Stinky visit Tortola: cartoon tabbies on beach at Long Bay.

“We aren’t in Florida. This is Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. It is my parents’ favorite place to vacation, and I wanted to share it with you. This beach is called Long Bay. It is part of the view from the condo where Mom and Dad stay. If you turn around and look up the hill you can see it,” Stinky explains to Periwinkle.

Periwinkle asks, “Stinky, can we go up the mountain so we can see the view?”

Stinky takes her paw, says, “Of course,” and begins to lead the way.

“We are almost there. It’s the three-story building. My mom and dad stay in the the second floor unit; though, they have stayed on the top floor when they came with friends,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“That was a bit of a trek, but well worth the view, don’t you think?” Stinky asks Periwinkle.

“Oh yes, Stinky, I can see why your mom and dad like it. I can hear the ocean waves even up here.”

“That’s my mom’s favorite thing. I could sit and listen all day. It’s so restful,” says Stinky. Before Stinky can say anything else, Periwinkle starts giggling, jumping up and down and pointing at something.

Periwinkle & Stinky visit Tortola: cartoon tabbies with a lizard.

“Look, Stinky, it’s a lizard. I am so exited! We can touch it and play with it as much as we want. My mom isn’t here to stop us.”

“We can, Periwinkle, but they are everywhere here, and we can play whenever we want. I want to show you the view from the roof.”

“Wait, what? The roof. I don’t think so,” Periwinkle replies.

Stinky tells Periwinkle it is an easy hop, grabs her paw and makes the leap. She squeals, but Stinky’s right, it is an effortless jump.

Periwinkle agrees that it is a terrific view. That makes Stinky very happy, and he gives Periwinkle a big paw hug before leading her down off the roof. He tells her that they are going to head to his parents’ favorite beach, Smuggler’s Cove.

Smuggler’s Cove

“Stinky, this is a great beach, so where are all the people?”

Stinky explains that locals mostly come to this beach on the weekends. The others who visit are those staying on this end of the island, the West End. He also tells Periwinkle that cruise ships come to Tortola, but they dock in Road Town. It is a bit of a drive to this beach, so they rarely come here.

“Let’s look around, Stinky,” says Periwinkle. They begin strolling on the beach.

“Stinky, look, chickens and a sand crab. I am not surprised to see the crab, but chickens on the beach are amazing!”

“Mom told me the chickens are super friendly. She brings Cheerios to the beach and they eat them right out of her hand,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

“Oh, phooey, I wish we had some Temptations. I bet they would like those! My paws are a little tired, Stinky. Do you think we could sit for a bit and watch the chickens and crab and listen to the ocean.”

“Good, idea, Periwinkle.”

Stinky’s Pelican Adventure

As they are resting, Stinky notices a pelican and starts running down the beach after it. As it begins to swoop down toward the water close to the shore, Stinky leaps and lands on its back. The pelican begins to fly away with Stinky.

Periwinkle & Stinky visit Tortola: Stinky takes a ride on a pelican at Smuggler's Cove.

Periwinkle jumps out of her seat in a panic and starts running down the beach yelling at Stinky to come back. When he disappears from sight, she begins wringing her paws and crying, fearful she has lost her boyfriend forever. Finally the pelican circles back around close to the beach, and Stinky jumps down onto the sand.

Periwinkle runs up to Stinky and throws her paws around his neck, hugging him close before she starts chastising him. “How could you do that, Stinky? You are too impulsive. One day you are going to get hurt really badly or get lost forever. After that dang walkabout you took last year, I think you would be more careful. Don’t you know how much it would hurt me and your mom and dad if something bad would happen to you!”

Stinky wipes the tears from Periwinkle’s cheeks and apologizes for his behavior. He takes her paw and starts walking down the beach telling her that he wants to show her something special in the hope of distracting her from her anger and disappointment in him.

The Coral Tree

Periwinkle & Stinky visit Tortola: cartoon tabbies visit tree decorated with coral at Smuggler's Cove.

“What is that in the tree, Stinky?” asks Periwinkle.

“It’s coral that washes up onto the beach. Visitors pick it up and put it in the tree. Mom told me that when she and Dad first came here nearly 25 years ago, there were lots fewer pieces in the tree.” (You can see a photo from that time on the post, “Caturday Art: Where’s the Cat?

After looking at the tree and walking back up the beach, Periwinkle seems to have calmed down. She tells Stinky that she is starving and asks if they could get a snack. He tells her that there is a nice restaurant on the beach at Long Bay and they head back in that direction. It is quite a hike, and they are both exhausted when they get there.

Snack Time

Before going up the steps to the restaurant, Stinky and Periwinkle spot a friendly bi-eyed kitty. Periwinkle whispers to Stinky, “Look at that kitty’s gorgeous eyes…one green and one blue. Let’s go say, ‘hi.'” Stinky agrees.

The tabbies have a nice meow with the kitty. She explains to them that there are kitties all over the island. Stinky tells her that his mom has shared lots of photos with him and his fursibs of all the cats she has met during her visits. Then he asks if the restaurant has any good, fresh fish? Their new friend agrees to show them where they can find someone who will give them some yummy morsels.

Sunset

After their snack, Periwinkle and Stinky head back down to the beach for a nap. When they awaken the sun is setting. Periwinkle gasps when she sees it.

“Stinky, that is so beautiful. Thank you for bringing me here,” says Periwinkle. The tabbies hug each other tightly and watch until the sun totally disappears. When it is down, they stroll slowly to their teleportation tunnel. As they walk, Stinky tells Periwinkle that they have only seen a tiny bit of the island, and he promises to bring her back another time to explore other areas.

They enter their tunnel and moments later arrive back at Periwinkle’s house. It is very late and so after a quick “hello” to Periwinkle’s mom and fursibs, the tabbies share some whisker kisses and paw hugs. Then Stinky enters his tunnel and with a whoosh is gone.

Sparks

With yesterday being Mother’s Day and the war still raging in the Ukraine, I think the Spark I selected for today is appropriate, and I totally believe it to be true.

sunflower with quote from E.M. Forster about mothers and war.

I used one of Dad Tom’s sunflower photos from 2017, as the sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine.

The author of today’s Spark, E.M. (Edward Morgan) Forster (1879 – 1970) was an English fiction writer, essayist and librettist. His novels include, A Room with a View, Howards End and A Passage to India. The latter brought him his greatest success. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 20 separate years.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. MOTHER’S DAY 2022 SELFIES

Sunday Selfies: Week #403

mother's day selfies of ginger cat

Being a bit of a suck up, I volunteered to do the selfie today. After all, who wouldn’t want to be the one to wish our mom a Happy Mother’s Day. Without her we would be inconspicuous (at least to those who frequent the internet). Trust us, we are constantly up in our humans’ business at home and do not go unnoticed.

Anyhoo, the other Kitties Blue and I think we have a pretty terrific mom. So, of course, they wanted to get in on the celebration as well, and they made her a special card.

mother's day selfies of six cats in heart shapes with a flowered frame

So, basically, we are giving you seven selfies today; though, mine is the only one that’s new!

Your Turn

Now that I have shared my selfie as well as those of my fursibs, I invite you to share your selfie with us and all your other friends. You have until Thursday to join the hop just in case you are busy celebrating your mom today.

All the Kitties Blue wish all the moms, whether their kids are humans or anipals, a super great day.

We’d also like to thank each of you for joining us today and continuing to support our blog.

Purrs & paw-pats, Cooper Murphy

ANGEL MAU & KIZMET ART

Caturday Art

angel art: grey cat and angel cat photo in an arty creation with a purple and blue flowered frame

Today’s art features the always photogenic Kizmet and our angel Mau. Kizmet was sitting on the bed with the pillow featuring Mau, which was a gift from Sharon, angel Allie, Raz, Noelle and Reesie’s mom (Friends Furever).

As I always do, I used Painnt to create my art. This is the Kang effect. I changed the coloration slightly from the original, which was black and white. To that I added the Cobalt filter from piZap at 40 percent and a frame from the favpng app.

If you are wondering what Kizmet is wearing on her collar, it is a tracking device, just like Sawyer wears. She has escaped on more than a few occasions; though, not recently. I don’t trust her, however!

Kizmet is joining the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. If you’d like to do the same, click on her badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

So far not one of the Kitties Blue has come forward and volunteered to do a selfie. I thought with it being Mother’s Day tomorrow at least one of them would like to show me they care enough about me to offer to be your host. But…NO! So I’ll be doing my usual coercing today to get one of them to participate.

I know most of you pet parents have no trouble convincing your furries to step up on Sundays. If you have a particular trick in getting them to snap a selfie, would you please share it with me.

Speaking of Sharing

Stinky asked me to thank everyone who shared an idea in the comments yesterday for future adventures. There were some really terrific ones, and I know he’ll be investigating the feasibility of each one.
