THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART XCVIII

On the Road Again

As Stinky has been a model cat since returning from his walkabout, his humans have given he and Periwinkle permission to take a “real” adventure totally by themselves. In order to maximize their time together, Stinky sent Periwinkle the coordinates to set in her teleportation tunnel so they can meet at the destination of their adventure.

Stinky arrives at the locale early so he can be waiting for Periwinkle. He’s really hoping she’ll enjoy what he has planned. Stinky hardly has time to catch his breath before Periwinkle arrives in a whoosh and grabs him in a huge paw hug. Stinky returns the hug and gives Periwinkle a whisker kiss.

“Where are we Stinky? It looks very fancy!”

Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA

“We are at a hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California,” Stinky tells her.

“Wow, the teleportation tunnel is so fast, I had no idea I traveled all the way from the east coast to the west,” Periwinkle tells him.

“Come on Periwinkle, it’s time to explore.” Stinky takes Periwinkle by the paw and leads her outside. “We are going to meander through town for a little while, and then I have a surprise for lunch.”

“Yeah, let’s go,” says Periwinkle and grabs Stinky’s paw.

“This sure is a cute little town, Stinky, and the hotel is gorgeous. I wish we could stay overnight,” Periwinkle tells Stinky.

“Me too, but I think it will be a while before my mom and dad let me do that,” Stinky tells her. “The hotel is the Pine Inn. My parents stayed here in 2017, which was the last time they visited. When I saw the photos on Mom’s computer, I knew I wanted to bring you here.”

“Why are we taking our photo at this other hotel?” Periwinkle asks.

“We are doing that for my mom and dad. They stayed here on their honeymoon in 1973.”

“Holy moly, Stinky, they must be very, very, very old,” Periwinkle exclaims.

Stinky laughs and replies, “They are!”

“Where to next, Stinky?

“I have secured a cute vintage T-Bird and a driver to take us to Big Sur for lunch and a drive along the coast,” Stinky tells Periwinkle.

Lunch at Rocky Point

Periwinkle cannot take her eyes off the view as they head up to the restaurant after a walk along the cliffs with stops for a couple of photos. She tells Stinky how hungry she is and adds, “I sure hope they have good noms here.”

“My mom and dad say it’s super good with lots of shellfish choices,” says Stinky. He explains that not only did his mom and dad eat there in 2017 but also on their honeymoon.”

Periwinkle squeals, “That is so romantic,” and gives Stinky several whisker kisses just as the waiter comes to their table. Embarrassed, Stinky looks down at the table as the waiter hands them their menues.

The tabbies order and admire the view. When their food arrives, they eat slowly, enjoying each other’s company.

Big Sur Tour

After lunch their driver takes Stinky and Periwinkle along Highway 1 so they can enjoy the ocean views. They even have the opportunity to get out of the car and walk along the beach paw in paw. There they meet a crab. Later they climb down the cliffs to say, “hello” to a large sea lion.

“That sea lion sure was nice, Stinky. I was a little afraid he might think we were his lunch,” says Periwinkle with a giggle.

Stinky gives Periwinkle’s paw a squeeze and assures her that he will always protect her.

Much too soon their driver collects them and tells them it is time to move on to their final stop of the day.

Carmel Mission Basillica

When they pull up to the Mission, Stinky notices that Periwinkle’s eyes are as big as frisbees. She leans over and whispers,”Are we getting married, Stinky? We aren’t even engaged.”

Stinky is embarrassed and blushes. He explains to Periwinkle that he wouldn’t ask her to marry him without getting Mom Sharon’s consent. They are visiting to learn a little of its history and enjoy it’s beauty. He then tells Periwinkle that the Mission was founded in 1771 and is celebrating it’s 250th anniversary.

Hiding a tear that falls on her cheek, Periwinkle grabs Stinky’s paw and jumps out of the car. “Let’s go then,” she says.

Stinky tells Periwinkle, “The official name of the mission is Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Río Carmelo. It is one of the most authentically restored missions in California and was headed for 18 years from the time of its founding by Father (now Saint) Junipero Serra.” He shows Periwinkle where he is buried in the chapel.

The tabbies spend as much time as they can exploring the Mission and its grounds and marveling at its beauty. Much too soon, their driver fetches them explaining that he has brought their teleportation tunnels with him. They will be departing for home from this locale. Disappointed, Periwinkle and Stinky give each other lots of whisker kisses and paw hugs before entering their respective tunnels. With a final wave and a whoosh, Periwinkle is on her way to Florida and Stinky to Virginia each dreaming of the other.

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Sparks

After Cooper Murphy bit my hand on Saturday, I started thinking about unconditional love. I knew he didn’t do it to hurt me. He just wanted to get my attention and let me know he didn’t want me to stop brushing and giving him scritches. It’s not the first time he’s bitten me, and I never get mad at him. I love him unconditionally, which is what prompted today’s Spark.

unconditional love

Growing up, my sister and I did not receive unconditional love from our parents. They always had expectations they expected us to meet. I was always a little better at this than my sister, as she was seven years older, and I learned a lot from her mistakes. And we were exceptionally fortunate our paternal grandparents did give us that unconditional love.

The Bite

As I said, it’s not the first time Cooper has bitten me. I’ve always expected it’s what got him abandoned in the snow by his previous family. This is the first time, however, I needed antibiotics for one of his bites. I suspect I reacted so badly, as this is the exact spot where Sawyer gifted me with a bite when I grabbed him to bring him home.

Sparks is the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Sparks, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

Tomorrow is our favorite day of the week, as it’s when Periwinkle and Stinky, share an adventure. They’ll be taking off from here tomorrow for this week’s adventure, which promises to be oodles of fun. These two fun-loving tabbies really, really hope you will join tham.

INTENSE TUXIE SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #367

Bad Mom forgot to schedule this before she went to bed! Sorry…

Wow, I look intense. I was probably thinking about my boyfriend, Angel Charles. I do that a lot.

This is a post of a few words, as my typist has an injured hand, thanks to Cooper Murphy. I think he’s trying to set up the groundwork to enter the Golden AssRabbit Awards in 2022. He loves to get brushes and chin scritches, and he gets miffed if Mom stops before he’s ready. He put the bitey on Mom’s hand yesterday, which now has four fang holes and is swollen and bruised. I don’t know what’s up with the boys at our house. I’ve never bitten or scratched Mom.

Hopping Time

Since I am not asking Mom to type much, it’s already your turn to participate in the blog hop. You know we appreciate and look forward to your participation each week as do all your fans, friends and admirers. So, please take a selfie and add it to our hop through the link below. We really want to see your sweet face.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lisbeth

RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY 2021

Remembering Angels

Today we have the opportunity to remember our pets that have transitioned to life at the Rainbow Bridge with Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. There they wait to be reunited with their humans. Too many of our friends received their angel wings this past year, and we have remembered them throughout the year. Though, I won’t be listing them here; each of them is in our hearts and thoughts, and their humans are in our prayers.

Dad Tom and I have two woofies, Smack and Poppy, at the Bridge. We also have 12 kitties currently waiting for us: Skooter, Steamer, Daphne, Thelma, Louise, Chloe, Twinkle, Madison, MacKenzie, Fiona, Lily Olivia and Mauricio. Each was special in his/her own way, and we miss them all.

Caturday Art

My art for Athena Cat Goddess’ Caturday Art blog hop is in remembrance of three special kitties. Just over one year ago, our sweet and gentle (Mau)ricio left us, and then six-weeks later his beautiful and equally sweet wife Allie (Friends Furever) flew away to join him on September 3, 2020. And this year on April 19, Lisbeth’s handsome and loving boyfriend Charles joined Allie and Mau and all the other Cat Scout angels. We miss these special cats dearly and always will, so we honor them today.

This is our entry in Athena’s blog hop. If you would like to join Allie, Mau and Charles there, click on Athena’s badge.

History of Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day was started by Deb Barnes from The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey. It came from her desire to find the love, beauty and dignity in saying goodbye to Jazz, her Ragdoll cat, who she let go of on August 28, 2013. Each year we use this day to remember our beloved furry friends that have left us. Deb is hosting a blog hop, which you can find here.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow is the last Sunday in August. I don’t know where the year has gone. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. I am definitely ready for this ghastly hot summer to be behind us, but not ready for 2022. Anyhoo, tomorrow is the day when we all put on our happy faces and take our selfies. We always look forward to seeing just how adorable each of you are. And we know all your fans and friends do as well. So, please join us. We always appreciate your participation and support.

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #277

Friendly Fill-Ins is a weekly blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorrianne (Four-Legged Furballs). The sentences to be filled in can be found on both blogs each Thursday. To participate in the hop, click on the badge at the left.

Kitties Blue let me down when it came to this week’s fill-ins, and I was forced to do them all myself. It wasn’t easy, but they are finished. My completions are in teal italics. If you haven’t been following us since early 2013, I think you will enjoy clicking on the link in #4.

1. I plan to spend more time in the swim/spa these last few days of August.

2. I am a stickler for good grammar.

3. Staying cool is proving difficult these days.

4. Have I ever told you about the time that I met Tom Selleck? (I actually have, but it was back in 2013. If you’d like to learn a lot about me that you may not know, click here to go to that post.)

Please join us again tomorrow for some Caturday Art.

THANKFULS, ASTRID & A SWEET TREAT

Throwback Thursday

I have no new photos to share that match up with our thankfuls for the week. So, here is a gratuitous, cute photo of Astrid from 2017. You may all squee now!

Thankful Thursday

At the top of our thankful list this week, is Dad Tom’s and my thankful for appointments to get our third dose of the Pfizer vaccine on September 7. If you have not gotten your vaccines yet, I encourage you to do so. The latest news is that if more Americans don’t step up and get vaccinated, the virus will be around until spring of 2022.

Sawyer has been home for five weeks, and he had his first gran mal seizure yesterday. He’s been doing a much better job of eating, which means he is getting the proper amount of his medications. We pray seizures continue to remain far apart. The better job of eating also is helping him regain the weight he lost while on his adventure.

All the Kitties Blue and I are thankful fo your continued support and friendship.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. To participate, post on your blog for what you are thankful, then click on the Thankful Thursday badge to be transported over to Brian’s Home.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Each Thursday I try to enter the poetry challenge hosted my our pals at Two Spoiled Cats, Teddy and Angel Sammy. The inspiration photo they provided for this week has my mouth watering and tastebuds tingling. I sure wish we had someplace local to get real Italian gelato.

Sweet Treat

Italian gelato is a decadent treat.
Every flavor is a delight to eat.
I’d love to have a cone with each one
And time to sit and savor until I’m done.
This makes me wish I was in Italy.
They have yummy gelato in every city.
Siena is my very favorite; I’d go tomorrow,
But this virus makes travel for me a big “no.”
I guess I’ll need to eat more ice cream.
And visit Italy in my nightly dreams.

THE JOY OF FRIENDS

Sparks

Last week our friends, Teddy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) mom and dad, Pam and David, and Dad Tom and I were finally able to see each other after a much too long hiatus due to the pandemic. We live approximately four hours from each other and so meet somewhere near the middle. The photo Dad Tom took of Pam and I is the basis for today’s Spark about friendship.

friends

I know how I have cropped the photo looks a little strange. It’s because there is sign to the right that says, “LOVE.” Though it is backward, I still wanted to have it in the photo.

I don’t have a lot of friends, but the ones I do have are extra special, and I am blessed to have them in my life.

The name Charles Swindoll was familiar to me, but I didn’t actually know who he is. In case you too are unfamiliar with him, here’s a little information.

Charles Rozell Swindoll is an 86-year-old evangelical Christian pastor, author, educator, and radio preacher. He founded Insight for Living, which airs a radio program of the same name in 15 languages on 2,000+ stations around the world.  He’s also the current senior pastor at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas.

GRUMPY, BAD TO THE BONE SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #366

grumpy

I may not be the famous Grumpy Cat, but I am the infamous grumpy cat, especially after my walkabout. You can see by this kitten photo that I’ve always had a grumpy face.

grumpyI don’t know how many of you are familiar with Jeff Dunham and his “dummy” Walter, but that’s who my mom and dad think I look like in my baby photos. I do look a little less grumpy as an adult.

Anyhoo, I am here today so I can announce: I did not win the Golden AssRabbit Award for 2021. I am proud to announce, however, that I was the winner in the “Bad to the Bone” category.

This is what AssRabbit (Hermes) had to say about me and my win: “Sawyer’s three-and-a-half-week disappearing act raised concern and blood pressure for so many voters on both Instagram and Twitter and in the blogging world. He was pretty famous for being in the dog house already when he went on his walkabout. Sawyer had some pretty tough competition from others in his category, but when the final votes were tallied, he was the clear winner.”

If you missed my entry to the Golden AssRabbit Contest, you can read it at “Good, Bad or Thoughtless.”

As a winner I will receive a Golden AssRabbit statue, a special kitty toy and an Award Certificate. When I receive my awards, I will share photos here.

Hopping Time

It’s your turn now to share your selfie with us as well as all your friends and admirers. My fursibs and I know none of you will be grumpy, as most of you enjoy taking selfies. And as soon as your done and have joined the hop, you’ll have the entire day to enjoy your easy. Your participation, support and friendship are so important to all us Kitties Blue and our humans. Thank you.

TOE BEANS & TAILIO

Caturday Art

toe beans and tailio

I have some abstract art for you today; though, I think the post title probably gave away the objects in the photo. To create the art, I used my favorite app, Painnt. The effect I used is Starry Forest with vivid coloring. The jeweled frame is from favpng.

Rather than tell you which of the Kitties Blue is in the photo, I am sharing the original photo, so you can get a good look at the toe beans hidden by the art effect. Yep, it’s our gingery boy, Cooper Murphy, and he’s participating in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by the charming and lovely Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. You can do the same by clicking on her badge.

Cooper Murphy thought you might enjoy a puzzle of his art. The link to it is at the bottom of the post.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Sawyer will be here tomorrow as your host, as he has a B-I-G announcement to make. We know you won’t want to miss that. While you are here reading all about it, it will be easy peasy for you to add your selfie to the blog hop. We so enjoy seeing all your precious faces each week, so please don’t let us down. Have a caterrific Caturday, and we will see you tomorrow!
