LIFE IS IRONIC

Sparks

Sparks

I’ve got depression and stress covered, so I hope happiness and calm are not too far away. My few local friends are mostly absent from my life now because of this damn virus, and I know I will be happy and thankful to be able to spend time with them once again. So, this is a good reminder for me to look to the future.

My friend in California, Jenn, who I introduced to you a few months back, sent me this recently. She always seems to know what I need to hear.

SparksSparks was the creation of Annie from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend. Annie stated when she began Spark,“I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world.”

PURRFECT PROFILE SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #320

I actually didn’t draw the short straw. What I did was decide to sit on Mom’s lap while she had her iPad. Before I knew what has happening, I’d snapped a profile selfie. So, I guess that means I am your host for today. Trust me, I don’t intend on putting much effort into it. I suspect you figured that out by the grumpy look on my face!

Sunday Selfies

I am off to have my Sunday easy, which is pretty much like the easy I have everyday. I suggest you all do the same just as soon as you post your selfie.

You don’t even need to post today to join our blog hop. It remains open through Thursday.

Before I pop off, I want to let you all know how much the other Kitties Blue and I appreciate everyone who joins our hop. You all rock!

Purrs and paw-pats, Misty May (with kisses for a special man cat)

FLOOFY CATURDAY ART

Caturday Art

Our elusive Giulietta is here as the subject of today’s Caturday Art. She is in her favorite hidey hole at the base of a small cat tree on the stair landing.

As the weather has gotten cooler, Giulietta has returned to her daily, winter abode. I am certain this isn’t permanent yet, as we will definitely have additional warm weather during autumn.

Without her bright eyes and floofy tail, she might have gone unnoticed.

To create the art, I used the Seemel effect from the Picas app.

Giulietta is participating in the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. You can do the same by clicking on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

We look forward to seeing you here tomorrow for our blog hop. Kitties Blue are waiting to see which of them draws the short straw and will be expected to act as your host. That means, you will need to stop by to see which of the seven shows up.

Until then, have a terrific Caturday.

FILL-INS, BLOG HOPS & A BIRTHDAY

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #226

I am joining the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). If you’d like to participate and let your followers know a bit more about yourself, you can find the sentences to be filled in on both blogs on Thursdays. To join the hop, click on the badge at the left, which will take you to Four-Legged Furballs.

I had a lot of help in filling in this week and thank Misty May and Sawyer for their input. We all used teal italics for our fill-ins. Explanatory information is in parentheses.

Misty May: 1. My caterwauling and pestiness while she is trying to sleep is too annoying, according to Mom.

2. I am willing to give up traveling and vacations for Sawyer, so someone can be at home with him at all times. (COVID-19 has made this easy.)

Misty May: 3. One random fact about me is that I had another brofur. (Mom and Dad had only planned to adopt two cats, and our litter mate was sort of shy and didn’t take to them like Mau and I did.)

Sawyer: 4. Among Kitties Blue, my lack of a tail and my seizure disorder makes me unique.

Feline Friday

Birthday Wishes

Finally, we are sending our best wishes for a happy birthday to our dear friend, Teddy and Angel Sammy’s mom, Pam!

Of course, Cooper Murphy made a cake for Pam.

REMEMBER ME THURSDAY® 2020

Uniting the World for Orphan Pets

About 6.5 million animals enter animal shelters across the United States annually. In 2019, 733,000 of those were euthanized.

Remember Me Thursday® (in its eighth year) is a global awareness campaign encouraging individuals to light a candle (literally or virtually) and opt to adopt orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues.

We are joining Remember Me Thursday® and have lit a candle at RememberMeTursday.org in remembrance of Angels Mau and Allie (Friends Furever).

Candles lit on this day (the fourth Thursday of September annually) across the world honor the pets who lose their lives without knowing the comforts of a loving home. Of course, both Allie and Mau had wonderful homes,

These candles shine brightly on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. We pray all those pets will be as lucky as Mau and Allie were.

Our Youngest Rescues

Cooper Murphy and Sawyer were fortunate to become members of the Kitties Blue household. Neither made it as far as a shelter. Cooper was abandoned during a snow storm. Sawyer appeared at the vacant house next door to ours on Thanksgiving. Had Cooper Murphy been dropped off at a shelter, he probably would have found a home. Instead he was left to fend for himself alone outdoors. Sawyer on the other paw, with his seizure disorder, likely would not have been so lucky had he been taken to a shelter.

They are here today promoting Remember Me Thursday® to remind everyone that all pets deserve a warm and loving home.

Remember Me Thursday®

A few years ago, I wrote a poem about Kitties Blue to promote pet adoption and am sharing an updated version this year.

OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS

Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
Two humans’ hearts we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregivers.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.
And tell your friends to promote Remember Me Thursday®,
So kitties worldwide can have their special gotcha day!

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY: PART L

Another Virtual Adventure

Stinky pulls the teleportation tunnel close to the radiator. It is the first day of autumn and much colder in Virginia than in Florida. He does not want Periwinkle to get a chill when she arrives.

He gets the tunnel positioned just in time for Periwinkle to come tumbling out with that familiar whoosh. Stinky throws his arms around her and gives Periwinkle a gigantic hug. Periwinkle nuzzles his neck and gives him whisker kisses before asking what their plans are for the day.

Stinky responds, “I was searching the internet to see if I could find any special events being celebrated today in addition to it being the first day of fall.”

“Did you find anything fun?” asks Periwinkle.

“I did, but when I told my mom what I wanted to do, she said we would have to take another virtual trip.”

Periwinkle looks disappointed but tells Stinky that anything is okay with her as long as they are together. Stinky agrees and sets out the plan for Periwinkle. As soon as he finishes, they clasp paws, close their eyes, meld their minds and are off on their next adventure.

When the tabbies reopen their eyes, they gasp in unison, and Periwinkle exclaims, “Wow, that guy is almost as huge as that dinosaur we rode in our last virtual adventure. She asks, “Is that why your mom wanted us to pretend again today?”

“Yes, when I told her it is National Elephant Appreciation Day today and asked if we could visit one, she immediately shook her head, no, especially after I told her what I wanted to do.”

Periwinkle gives Stinky a quizzical look as she waits for him to explain.

“Today is National Ice Cream Cone Day as well. As you and I already visited Pop’s for banana splits in a previous adventure, I wanted to figure out a different way to celebrate both ice cream cones and elephants.”

Periwinkle narrows her eyes and gives Stinky another “look” and awaits further explanation.

Do Elephants Eat Ice Cream Cones?

Stinky continues, “I was wondering if elephants eat ice cream cones, so I went back to the internet. And I discovered they do.”

Looking at Stinky as if maybe he has gone off the rails, Periwinkle asks, “So you want to feed this elephant ice cream cones?”

“Yep,” Stinky says enthusiastically, as his eyes light up in anticipation.

“Well, I can see why your mom was hesitant about this adventure. If this was a real elephant, he could squish us when we try to get close enough to give him the ice cream, especially if he’s an elephant who doesn’t have access to the internet or know he likes ice cream.”

Stinky giggles at Periwinkle’s reasoning.

Realizing this is a virtual adventure, and they can do whatever they want, Periwinkle says, “Well, let’s close our eyes and imagine some ice cream cones.”

After a few moments, the tabbies open their eyes and find ice cream cones in their paws. Stinky takes a lick and discovers he can’t taste anything. He realizes he forgot to imagine a flavor. He asks Periwinkle what her ice cream tastes like. She replies, “Tuna, catnip and Temptations.” Periwinkle shrugs and says, “I couldn’t decide what I wanted,” and she offers Stinky a lick.

The tuna ice cream is so yummy, as are the other flavors, and the tabbies finish all the ice cream before realizing what they have done. Embarrassed, they giggle, and Periwinkle asks Stinky what flavors of ice cream they should imagine.

Stinky tells Periwinkle that elephants eat mostly grasses, shrubs and tree bark, but they also like vegetables and fruits, especially apples and bananas. They agree that Stinky will imagine a cone with apple-flavored ice cream and Periwinkle banana.

When they open their eyes after a few seconds, they taste the cones in their paws. They agree the flavors are just right.

“Let’s see if the elephant likes these,” suggests Periwinkle.

The tabbies offer up their cones, and their new friend quickly grabs one after the other with his trunk. He doesn’t lick the ice cream but puts the cone and all into his mouth.

Periwinkle whispers to Stinky, “I think he does like ice cream; he’s smiling!”

Stinky agrees and suggests they imagine some additional ice cream cones for themselves. They agree to get different flavors and share. Stinky imagines a cone with salmon-flavored ice cream, and Periwinkle imagines chicken.

As the tabbies lick their ice cream, their new friend offers them a ride on his trunk. This being an adventure in their imaginations, Periwinkle and Stinky think that sounds like a dandy idea. The elephant lowers his trunk and they both jump on.

After a nice long ride, the elephant sets Periwinkle and Stinky carefully on the ground. They thank him for the ride, and he thanks them for the ice cream cones. The tabbies join paws and imagine themselves back at Stinky’s house, and their adventure ends as magically as it began.

Periwinkle takes some time to say, “hi,” to all of Stinky’s fursibs as well as his Mom and Dad. Then Mom Janet prepares a snack for the tabbies. After that and a short nap, it is time for Periwinkle to leave for home. She and Stinky spend several minutes saying their good-byes. After a long hug and several whisker kisses, Periwinkle enters the tunnel. With a wave of her paw, she is gone.

Stinky heads to the catio where he can nap and dream of Periwinkle, wishing next Tuesday comes quickly.

The End

LAST SUNDAY SELFIES OF SUMMER

Sunday Selfies: Week #319

Sunday Selfies

Admittedly, I am not proficient at selfie taking. So, as she usually does, Mom fancied up my photo with a frame. With autumn arriving in just a few days (hallelujah), she selected a fall-themed frame, which matches my tortie furs nicely. Thanks Mom!

I have nothing more to share, so invite you to join me in our blog hop. This is the last Sunday of summer, so I do not want to fritter it away. I am going to hit the catio cat tree where I enjoy spending the afternoons. It’s been a bit cool the past few days, but I am fairly certain it will heat up again soon.

Anyhoo, remember it is not necessary to post on Sundays to join our hop. It remains available through Thursday.

Finally, I want to let you know how much all the Kitties Blue and our mom appreciate you visiting, hopping and commenting. Without all of you, we would not be here! Many thanks!

Purrs & paw-pats, Astrid (with kisses for Sampy)
