SEEING STARS & SUNPUDDLES

Caturday Art

Our trio of tuxies are enjoying a sunpuddle in today’s photo.

The photo includes Lisbeth in the back, Mau and his shadow (center) and Misty May in the front looking at Mau’s shadow. Seeing these three together is a rare occurrence and needed to be recorded.

I used the usual apps for today’s art, starting with the Leather effect from Painnt. The stars border is from piZap. Nothing fancy this week.

The three tuxies will be joining the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. To join them or view art by other bloggers, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

We’ll be right back here tomorrow with our weekly selfies blog hop. Your host has already taken her selfie, and she encourages you to do the same. After all, you wouldn’t want to disturb a nice Sunday Easy to get it done.

We appreciate each and everyone who has ever joined our hop, and we hope you will continue to do so.

THANKSGIVING DAY THANKFULS

Thankful Thursday

On this Thanksgiving Day Kitties Blue, Dad Tom and I are thankful to have each other. And, of course, we are thankful to have all of you, our friends and followers, in our lives.

Sawyer has some thankfuls today as well. He did not have a terrific Gotcha Day, as he had a seizure that evening. But he is grateful for all the good wishes he received on his special day as well as lots of treaties.

He is sending special thanks to friends Noelle (Friends Furever) and Pipo, Dalton and Benji (Meezer’s Mews and Terrieristical Woofs) who sent these cards.

I also have a special thankful this week. With no help from Astrid, who decided lying across the iPad was her sworn duty, I won a badge on the Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats. I should have been one of the first commenters as well as the first right guesser, but Astrid had other things in mind, like getting love and attention. She refused to let me type, and then she had me leaving comments on the wrong post. Nonetheless, I got a special Thanksgiving badge for being a Right Guesser.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by our friend Brian. If you would like to join us on the hop, post on your blog for what you are thankful and then click on the badge below.

Thoroughly Poetic Thanksgiving Thursday

As we do each Thursday, we are participating in Angel Sammy and Teddy’s (Two Spoiled Cats) poetry challenge. They provide an inspiration photo for participants. This being Thanksgiving, I decided to interpret this week’s photo as representative of the holiday.

Thanksgiving Day Outing

A rare treat for mom and son
A trip to the Thanksgiving Day parade.
The youngster too excited to complain
About the long trek from the subway.
Anticipation of balloons and bands
enough to keep him on a steady course.
Unfortunately, Millie, the dog doesn’t share
Her young human’s enthusiasm. She planted
Her butt on the sidewalk, refused to budge.
Now she rides while her young master
Charges ahead; Mom pushes the sleeping dog.
Passersby stare and chuckle, shake their
Heads at the silliness of the scene.
But neither mom nor son notice,
Thankful and excited to spend the day
Together enjoying the once yearly event.

THE ADVENTURES OF PERIWINKLE & STINKY PART VII

Preparing for Thanksgiving

Stinky had moved the teleportation tunnel to the destination of Periwinkle’s and his next adventure and waited next to it. Of course, he was fidgeting with excitement and anticipation when she came whooshing out. Breathless, she threw her paws around Stinky’s neck and gave him a big squeeze.

Looking around, Periwinkle asked, “Where are we? This isn’t your house.”

Stinky replied, “We are at the locale of today’s adventure,” and he pointed at a sign above their heads.

Periwinkle read it aloud, “Cat Scout Mau’s Bake Shop.”

“I thought all the yummy smells would give it away,” said Stinky.

Periwinkle started bouncing up and down and said, “Oh, goody, we are going to spend the day eating delicious things.”

“Well, not quite,” replied Stinky. Seeing the pout on Periwinkle’s face he quickly continued, “Scout Mau is going to teach us to make pies for our humans for Thanksgiving.”

“Do we at least get samples?” asked Periwinkle.

“Of course,” replied Stinky, as he led her inside.

“Hi kids,” Mau said, as Periwinkle and Stinky entered the Bake Shop. “I’ve made you some bacon tarts so you will have plenty of energy for today’s activities. When you have finished those, make sure to wash your paws really well, and we will get started.”

As Periwinkle and Stinky ate their tarts, Mau explained, “We are going to be baking pecan and pumpkin pies today, and I will share the recipes.

Mau gave the youngsters time to eat their tarts while he gathered all the supplies for their pies.

When Periwinkle and Stinky were finished eating and their paws were clean, Mau gave them each a chef’s hat.

Mau assigned pumpkin pies to Periwinkle and pecan to Stinky, but the two asked if they could work together on both. They were so cute, Mau readily said, “Yes!”

Here is the pumpkin pie recipe Mau gave them.

Pumpkin Pie from Mau’s Great Grandmother

Piecrust: Mau’s mom uses the Pillsbury refrigerated piecrusts as she stinks at making a good flakey one, so that is what Periwinkle and Stinky will be using.

Filling:

1 15 oz. can of pumpkin
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
3 slightly beaten eggs
1 cup canned evaporated milk

Combine pumpkin, sugar, salt and spices. Add eggs and milk. Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake at 425 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Serve with unsweetened whipped cream. (Not the canned stuff.)

In the midst of mixing up the pumpkin pie filling, Periwinkle started giggling, as she noticed Stinky had managed to get pumpkin on his face. She offered to lick it off for him, and he readily agreed. “Hmmm, that sure is yummy,” said Periwinkle.

After getting the pumpkin pies in the oven, Stinky and Periwinkle couldn’t resist watching them for several minutes before starting on the pecan pies.

“Wow, Periwinkle, these sure smell pumpkinlicious, don’t you think?” “Oh, yes,” replied Periwinkle.

“Stinky are you and Periwinkle ready to start on the pecan pies?” asked Mau.

They replied in unison, “You bet!”

Southern Pecan Pie

Again, Mau gave the tabbies a premade Pillsbury refrigerated crust.

Filling:

3 thoroughly beaten eggs
2/3 cup sugar
Dash salt
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup (or more) pecan halves (Mau always adds lots more, as he likes the pecans to be throughout the pie, not just on top.)

Pour filling into unbaked pie shell and bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once the pecan pie was in the oven, Mau asked Stinky to clean up the kitchen so he could give Periwinkle a tour of the Bake Shop. This, however, was a ruse on Mau’s part. Instead he took Periwinkle to another part of the bake shop where he had an already baked cake waiting. He asked her if she would like to help decorate it for Stinky’s Gotcha Day, which was yesterday.

“Of course,” Periwinkle replied, and Mau gave her the supplies she would need.

When the pies were out of the oven and cooling, Periwinkle presented Stinky with his cake. He was totally surprised and gave Periwinkle a big hug and thanked both her and Mau for such a thoughtful gesture.

The three sat down and enjoyed cake and ice cream.

When they finished their celebration snack, the tabbies admired their pies.

Mau wrapped up the pies for Periwinkle to take home to her mom and fursibs. (Mau would make two more the following day for Stinky’s and his family.)

The tabbies thanked Mau for inviting them to the Bake Shop and teaching them how to make pies. They turned in their chef’s hats and headed toward the teleportation tunnel.

Stinky gave Periwinkle a big hug and several whisker kisses and said, “Thanks for sharing another adventure with me. I am so thankful to have you in my life. Please wish your family a happy Thanksgiving from me and my family.”

Periwinkle reciprocated with hugs and whisker kisses, and wished Stinky and his family a happy Thanksgiving.

The two youngsters held paws for a while longer, not wanting to say good-bye. Finally Periwinkle gave Stinky a wink and a wave, picked up her pies and entered the teleportation tunnel and was whisked away.

Stinky stood by the tunnel for several minutes wiping tears from his eyes. He was already missing Periwinkle and couldn’t wait for their next adventure.

SAWYER’S GOTCHA DAY & SPARK

Awww Mondays

Normally I begin our Monday posts with Sparks, but today I am switching things up, as today is special. It is Sawyer’s second Gotcha Day.

We do have photos of him from his first day with us, but they are a bit blurry, so I am sharing a photo from three days after his arrival.

Sawyer always looked like a grumpy old man in his early days with us, and it was evident that he really didn’t like us much. He has mellowed during the last two years. He will allow us to pet him sometimes, and he often chooses to snuggle up and sleep next to Dad Tom or me. Best of all, he allows me to kiss him on the head.

Our baker, Mau, made a cake for the whippersnapper and we have hot chocolate. Please join us as we celebrate our little pal.

We are so grateful we were able to rescue Sawyer and give him a good life in spite of his seizure disorder.

Sparks

With Thanksgiving later this week, I selected a Spark expressing thankfulness. I am using one of Dad Tom’s photos as the background image.

I have used a quote from Ralph Marston for a Spark back in September, 2018. Marston was a football player who attended Boston University. He spent a season as a professional in the National Football League in 1929 with the Boston Bulldogs as a quarterback.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Many of us still continue to post a Spark on Monday, as we believe in Annie’s vision: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

The Adventures of Periwinkle & Stinky

This fun-loving, tabby duo will return tomorrow with the next installment in their adventure series. It is Stinky’s week to post, and I know both he and Periwinkle will be looking forward to seeing you here tomorrow.

ONE-EYED SELFIE & TOE BEANS

Sunday Selfies: Week #276

I had to have a bit of help with my selfie from Mom. I was snuggled into Dad’s lap and didn’t want to move. Though I sleep on Mom’s head at night, Dad Tom is my favorite person, and I try to get in his lap or on his chest whenever I can. I do get a lot of competition from Mau and some from Astrid and Giulietta, but I win the prime spot more than any other of the Kitties Blue.

Now that I have shared my selfie, I sure hope you will share your beautiful or handsome face with us.

Mom has decided I don’t need to post those hopping tips. She did ask me to remind everyone it is not necessary too post on Sunday to hop, all anipals are welcome and it would make us very happy if you post our badge and link.

Mom, all the other Kitties Blue and I thank you for hopping with us. If you are new to our Sunday Selfies hop, we hope you will return often.

Finally, I am sending some kisses and purrs to a very special man cat. He knows who he is!

Purrs and paw-pats. Misty May

SAWYER SNOOZING IN A FIELD OF FLOWERS

Caturday Art

A snoozy Sawyer is here today to join the Caturday Art Blog Hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty.

The artwork was created using the Field of Flowers effect with “vivid” coloring from Painnt. To that I added a botanical overlay from PicMonkey. The frame is from PhotoFaceFun.

If you’d like to join Sawyer on the hop or merely check out some other cool art projects, click on the badge below.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Another week has sped by and it’s time to take those selfies once again. If you get spruced up and take them today, you’ll be ready to hop tomorrow. Then you’ll be able to enjoy a wonderful easy Sunday and rest up for turkey day. One of the Kitties Blue will be here tomorrow to act as your host, so we hope you’ll drop in, say, “hi,” and show off your spectacular self. See you then!

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #184

Friendly Fill-Ins is a weekly blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). Each week Ellen and Lorianne select two sentences to be completed by participants. They post these are their blogs on Thursday, and we hop on Friday. The hop is at Four-Legged Furballs. You can get there by clicking the badge at the left.

This week Kitties Blue only stepped forward to do one of the fill-ins. They allowed me to do the remaining three. We all used teal italics for our fill-ins. Any explanatory information is in parentheses.

1. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into pumpkin pie made using my grandma’s recipe on Thanksgiving.

2. I will pass on watching football on Thanksgiving.

3. Kitties Blue:  I We wish all the Temptations we want was were served at holiday gatherings.

4. I always will be thankful for the opportunity to give Sawyer and Cooper Murphy the home and love they deserve. (Of course, I am thankful to do that for all the Kitties Blue, but those two boys were abandoned outside and really needed to be saved.)

The kitties and I also are joining the Friendship Friday blog hop at Create with Joy.

THANKFUL FOR 25 DAYS!

Thankful Thursday

Wowie-zowie! For the second week in a row, our mom was the First Right Guesser on the Two Spoiled Cats’ Tuesday Teaser. She rarely knows the locale and is so seldom first to identify it that we think this is a pretty big deal. She won another of these cool badges.

If you missed yesterday’s post, click on the link at the bottom of this page, as that post has a direct correlation to this one. On Monday, Sawyer had a seizure. Of course, none of us are thankful for that, but we are thankful this was the first one in 25 days! He hasn’t had such a long spell of being seizure free since he began having them. We all wish he’d never have another, but knowing that isn’t going to happen, we are super thankful whenever he has these long breaks.

We are extremely thankful for everyone who has taken an interest in Sawyer and continues to pray, purr and send POTP.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. To participate, post on your blog for what you are thankful, and then click on the badge below to hop over to Brian’s.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

On Thursday, in addition to being thankful, we like to share a poem written to accompany an inspiration photo provided by Teddy and Angel Sammy from Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s the photo for today and the poem our mom wrote.

Dance Party

Dancing once was a popular pastime.
It was a simpler era when young
People communicated face to face,
Interacted by holding hands,
Jiving and swaying to the music.

I loved dancing when I was young—
practiced with the door frame all the time,
exercising my body as well as my mind
Not just my thumbs with eyes cast down
Attention on only Snapchat or Instagram.

Young people seemed happier then,
Not killing each other at school
Or committing suicide for cyber bullying;
Played sports and watched Bandstand,
Didn’t hide in their rooms writing manifestos.

But that describes a few, not the many,
And it’s not because they don’t dance.
Society is constantly changing.
Sometimes life and humankind get better,
But sometimes a wrong turn is made.

Today’s youth are filled with stress and insecurities
About our planet, their culture and classmates.
Dancing seems frivolous and pointless,
But I wish they knew the happiness and delight
I enjoyed in my youth when on the dance floor.
