ART OF THE DANGLE

Caturday Art

Before the addition was finished, Sawyer would enjoy the occasional nap on the dresser in my sewing room. The photo I used for today’s art shows him on the dresser and displaying a darn good dangle.

Caturday Art

After his nap, Sawyer would usually clear all the small items off the dresser. To avoid any breakage, I removed those things and cleared a space for him. Of course, once I did that he lost interest in napping there.

Today’s art was created using the “DC” effect from Painnt, a black silhouette flower overlay from pi-Zap and a drop shadow frame from Picasa.

Sawyer is joining the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty. If you’d like to join him or just see some other cool art, click on Athena’s badge on the right.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

Tomorrow is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, so the host for our weekly blog hop is set. Cooper Murphy will be here to greet you. Just because it’s a special day for the gingers does not mean we are limiting who can hop with us. Just like every other Sunday, all anipals are welcome regardless of species. So get those selfies snapped so you can be here bright and early tomorrow morning and then enjoy an easy Sunday.

See y’all tomorrow.

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THE WHIPPERSNAPPER

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #172

It’s Friday, so you know we are participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop hosted by Ellen from 15 And Meowing and Lorianne from Four-Legged Furballs. On Thursdays they each select two sentences to be completed by filling in the blanks. On Fridays, those of us who join in post our fill-ins on our blogs and then join the hop with the Furballs. To go there now, click on the badge in the upper left corner.

1. My favorite Peanuts character is Woodstock. (I also like Marcie and Peppermint Patty, so if any of the Kitties Blue ask, please tell them one of those characters. I’m not so sure they would be happy with me liking a birdie.)

2. I knew I was no longer a child when my mom died when I was 16.

3. I was shocked when I learned that I have a progressive, congenital, neuro-muscular disease.

4. Sawyer: I always feel frustrated when I try to chase my tail, as I don’t have one. (I had Sawyer fill this in for me, as I am frustrated by so many things, due to my #3 fill-in.)

Feline Friday

Another blog hop kitties Blue enjoy joining on Fridays is the one at Comedy Plus. Our host, Sandee, surely will enjoy our entry this week. It is her favorite of the Kitties Blue, Cooper Murphy. He was being goofy on the top of the bedroom cat tree (while watching himself in the mirror) when I snapped this photo.

HEARTFELT THANKS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Each Thursday Teddy and Angel Sammy (Two Spoiled Cats) host a poetry “challenge.” The challenge is to use the inspiration photo they provide as the basis for a poem.

I loved this week’s photo. It’s most likely this young lady is giving her first recital, but she already could be an accomplished pianist…a prodigy. Though I did play the piano at one time, I was no virtuoso. It is my experience reflected in the poem I wrote today.

Please Play Far, Far Away

I took piano lessons when I was a kid.
It was probably because my sister did.
She learned quickly and played well.
I had little talent but mastered my scales.
It made my mom crazy when I would play.
She’d say she wished I’d play far, far away.
Though the piano was never my forte,
I still have one in my house today.
It’s just like the one from when I was small,
But just like then, I am not musical.

Thankful Thursday

Our first thankful for today is major…Sawyer has not had a seizure in 17 days. It has been months since he has had such a long break. (If you are near wood, please knock on it. I don’t want to jinx him.)

I must attribute this to Life Extension Cat Mix. (This is not a review, and I have no affiliation with this product.) It is a nutritional supplement, and I don’t believe it is a magic cure. I just believe with the addition of it to his food, he actually is eating most of the time, and so he is getting the full dosages of his meds.

But I am not ruling out the power of all the prayers and POTP. Dad Tom, Sawyer and I are super thankful for those.

Mau and Cooper Murphy had fun at Cat Scouts Summer Camp, but are happy it is over so they could return to their usual pastimes of napping, eating and bird TV watching.

Mau has a couple of other thankfuls as well. The first is for a trophy for having the best Old Faithful geyser height guess. He wanted to show you a photo, but I cannot find it right now. He is most thankful for the rock Allie painted for him at Camp. Unbeknownst to each other, they both had the same idea. Allie’s rock is on the left. Mau’s is on the right. Clearly Allie has the better painting skills.

Though neither are Cat Scouts, Allie’s little sisfur, Noelle, painted a beautiful heart for Sawyer. In return he is sending her paw-pats and whisker kisses.

Thankful Thursday is a blog ho hosted by the terrific tabby, Brian. To join, post on you blog for what you are thankful and then click on the badge below.

REJOICE IN NATURE & BEING ALIVE

Sparks

Saturday and yesterday we had some unseasonably cooler weather. That finally gave me the opportunity to do some much needed yard work. I always think Sunday is a great day to be outside in nature enjoying the beautiful world God created for us. With climate change, the days that are neither too hot nor too cold for me to go outside decrease each year, so I am always delighted when I get the opportunity. It is the enjoyment I felt that prompted today’s Spark, which is accompanied by one of Dad Tom’s photos.

Sparks - rejoice

The author of today’s Spark, Eleonora Giulia Amalia Duse, often simply known as Duse (ˈduːze) was an Italian actress. She lived from 1858 to 1924. She is regarded as one of the greatest actresses of all time and is the subject of the 1947 biographical film, titled, Eleonora Duse.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie has been taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Unfortunately, during this break, Annie has been the victim of a hacker. This has continued to keep her off-line and caused her much distress. Please continue to send prayers to Annie and her family as they work to get their lives back to normal.

Many of us believe in Annie’s vision: “If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

Awww Mondays

In yesterday’s Sunday Selfie post, Astrid mentioned that Lisbeth was on the cat tree staring at her while she was taking her selfie. I thought you all might enjoy a look at the expression on Lisbeth’s face…a double whammy…scowling stink-eye! (She does, however, have great cheekbones!) Where and when their relationship deteriorated, I have no idea.

Awww Mondays - Stink eye

I am not certain this photo will get an “awww” from anyone. Nevertheless, Lisbeth is entering the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. To hang out with her there, click on the badge below. And have a happy start to your week.

A RAZZ & A SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #263

When Mom asked me to do the selfie today, this was my response.

But being a good sport, I decided to oblige her. However, I couldn’t take my eyes off Lisbeth while I did it. She was on the cat tree hovering over me.

I am not going to bore you with a bunch of jibber jabber about how Lisbeth and I are not fans of each other. That would just mess up your easy Sunday. I am just going to add our hopping tips and call it a day.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.
  • Take the opportunity to visit some of the other hop-alongs and make some new friends or reconnect with some old ones.

Thanks for joining us and supporting our blog hop. If this is your first time here, welcome. Kitties Blue and I hope you return often.

Anniversary Hop Winner

Oops, I almost forgot that I am supposed to let you know the winner of last week’s giveaway. Mom put the entry numbers into Random.org’s sequence generator, and we had a surprise. The first number up was #1. That’s never happened to us before. So who is the lucky winner? One of our favorite people: Kevin (Meowmeowmans) from Animal Shelter Volunteer Life. Mom will be sending some prizes to kitties, Ava and Gracie, and their humans, Kevin and Tracey.

Purrs and paw-pats, Astrid

THREE CATS IN ONE

Caturday Art

The three cats in one making up today’s art include: 1. Sawyer, 2. the pink cat cube and 3. a cat from Happy Color wearing sunglasses and a bow tie. I used picMonkey to layer these and added a radiance effect in the background. I’ll admit, it is a wacky concoction, but I enjoy experimenting.

This is our entry to Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. To join Sawyer there, click on the badge below.

Sunday Selfies

Another week has zipped by, which means it’s time tomorrow for our Sunday Selfies blog hop. We like to suggest that you get your selfie snapped today so you can enjoy an Easy Sunday tomorrow.

Along with hopping, we will announce the winner of the random drawing for a surprise prize. The giveaway was open to anyone hopping with us on last Sunday’s Fifth Anniversary hop.

We always look forward to seeing your sweet and smiling faces each week, so please join us tomorrow. Hopping is an excellent way to make friends.

See you then.

CAT NAPPING WITH MAU & FILL-INS

Friendly Fill-InsL Week #171

I enjoy Friendly Fill-Ins, as the process of trying to find just the right “answer” gives me the opportunity to be introspective. Sometimes I think I have done a good job, and other times I am certain I have missed the mark. When my mind draws a complete blank, I need one or more of Kitties Blue to help me. This week I completed all the sentences myself, and I think I did a good job.

If you are not familiar with Friendly Fill-Ins, it is a blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 and Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs). They both select two sentences to be completed by participants. Those sentences are posted on their blogs each Thursday. The hop takes place at Four-Legged Furballs on Fridays. To go there, click on the badge at the left.

I have completed the sentences using teal italics.

1. I am a stickler for washing my hands to the point of being a bit obsessed about it.

2. By the end of August, I plan to get some yard work done, as we are supposed to have a few days of cooler weather coming up.

3. Having the opportunity to love and provide a home for Kitties Blue is my favorite thing about myself.

4. These days, my biggest priority is making certain that Sawyer gets his meds and has the best life possible.

Feline Friday

Every night after dinner, Mau climbs into Dad Tom’s lap for a cuddle and a snooze. He never seems to have a hard time making himself comfortable.

Mau is participating in the blog hop at Comedy Plus. To join him there, click on the badge below.

THANKFUL FOR 2,000TH POST & NO SEIZURES!

 Thankful Thursday

This past week has flown by and has been filled with celebrations. First we had Astrid and Lisbeth’s birthday celebration, immediately followed by the fifth anniversary of our Sunday Selfies blog hop. And today, we are celebrating again, as this is post number 2,000 for The Cat on My Head. So we are beginning our post today with our thankfuls. (No worries, however, we do have a poem as well.)

Kitties Blue and I are super thankful for each of those milestones.

Our biggest thankful (knock on wood that I am not jinxing us) is that Sawyer has not had a seizure in ten days. This is the longest break in forever. We are using something in his food that 15 and Meowing‘s Ellen told us about. It is Cat Mix from Life Extensions. She read a review from a woman using it for her cat who suffered from seizures. The cat had not had any since beginning the supplement. And now, neither has Sawyer. I don’t know if it is the supplement or the fact that he likes it and is eating all his food, which is where his meds are. Because he is finishing his meals, he is sleeping lots more, but that is just fine with Dad Tom and me. Of course, we know all the prayers and POTP are helping as well.

Finally, I am thankful that once again this week, I was a first commenter on the Tuesday Teaser at Two Spoiled Cats. I shared this distinction with Sharon from Friends Furever and Jackie from Memories of Eric and Flynn. I got this badge.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. To take part, post on your blog for what you are thankful and then click on the badge at the upper left.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Now it is time for some poetry as part of the popular Thoroughly Poetic Thursday hosted by Teddy and his angel brother, Sammy. Each week they provide a photo to serve as our inspiration for the following week’s poem.

Here is this week’s photo and my poem.

The Magic of Fairies

Fairies and butterflies are magical creatures.
To see just one is a special treat.
This young princess must be truly blessed
To find herself surrounded by so many.
If she has a wish, it surely will be granted.
If she is waiting for a handsome prince
To find and take her for his bride,
He is sure to arrive on a sturdy steed
To carry her away to his mountaintop castle.
There the fairies will sew a dress of lace
and a veil of gossamer butterfly wings.
This princess is destined for a glorious future,
as fairies are always a good omen.

Even if you don’t think you are a poet, why not give writing a poem a try. A great website to learn about all different types of poetry and the various formats is Shadow Poetry. Check it out by clicking on the link, then check out next week’s inspiration photo and see what you can do.

To hop over to Two Spoiled Cats, where you can read Angel Sammy’s poem, which he transmits to Teddy from the Rainbow Bridge, click on the badge below. You also will find links to poetry from your fellow bloggers in the Comments section.

Apology

Finally, Kitties Blue and I would like to apologize for our lack of visiting. Cooper Murphy and Mau are at Cat Scouts Summer Camp this week and have been hogging the computer and the iPad.

If you are not a Cat Scout, check it out by clicking on the link above. They have oodles of fun and make lots of friends in the process.
