SUSIE DISCOVERS THE PARTY LINE

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Here’s the inspiration photo for this week’s poetry challenge hosted by the Two Spoiled Cats, Teddy and Angel Sammy.

Our mom says that she looked just like this little girl when she was a toddler. We’ve never met any of these little people personally, but I think Mom looks awfully big now to have ever been so small.

Between you and me, I don’t think this is really a poem, but I’ve never written one, so…

Susie Discovers the Party Line

Hi Grandma. It’s me, Susie.
Did you recognize my voice?
I learned a new song today,
And Mom said I could call and
Sing it to you. Is that okay?
Oh goody, here goes. Itsy
Bitsy spider climbed up…
What? Who is this? Why
Are you on Grandma’s phone?
You’re on my phone? How
Did you get in my phone?
Mommy! Some person is
In our phone! Come quick.
Get them out of there.
I was singing to Grandma.
What’s a party line? I don’t
Understand. Can’t you make
Them go away? I want to
Sing my song for Grandma.
Oh, okay. Sorry Grandma,
I’ll have to call you back later.
I love you. Bye…

Mom says in the olden days, decades before cell phones were invented, sometimes families had to share just one phone. And they often had to share their phone line with one or up to three other families. She said it was very stressful if there was a special boy a girl was hopping to hear from. He might never get through but just keep getting a busy signal. I certainly am happy I don’t need to worry about such things.

Anyhoo, I know where you can read a really good poem—over at Two Spoiled Cats. Sammy is a masterful poet, and he transmits a fabulous poem from the Rainbow Bridge each week. You also can find links to the blogs of other poets in the comments. To pop on over there, click on the badge at the left.

Thankful Thursday

Mom has decided to be thankful for the small victories. Some days I refuse to eat my Fancy Feast with my meds in it. But yesterday, I ate all four meals, leaving only clean bowls. And I haven’t had a seizure in eight days. Please cross your paws that I can squeak out at least a few more seizure-free days.

Mom also is thankful for one day of cooler weather yesterday. She was able to get outside and work in the yard for three-plus hours. We go back to temps in the mid-90s for at least the next 10 days. Too, too hot for May.

It was so hot a couple of days ago that Dad put ice cubes in our water.

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. To participate, simply post for what you are thankful, then click the badge above to go to Brian’s blog.

We all are thankful for having so many wonderful and supportive blogging friends.
