ENJOY EVERY MINUTE

Sparks

Sparks - Mau & Cooper Murphy (family)

After spending the weekend out of town with Dad Tom’s family, I wanted a Spark that represented just how happy it makes me whenever we have the opportunity to do that. As this happens infrequently, I truly do savor it, just as Cooper Murphy and Mau are savoring their time together in this photo.

I was unfamiliar with Earl Nightingale, and so I suspect most of you are unfamiliar with him as well. Nightingale was an American radio speaker and author, dealing mostly with the subjects of human character development, motivation and meaningful existence. He was born in L.A. in 1921 and served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Nightingale was the author of the motivational book, The Strangest Secret. During the early 1950s, he was the voice of Sky King, a radio adventure series hero, and was a WGN radio program host from 1950 to 1956.

Sparks began as a blog hop, created by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Annie is taking a “break” from blogging, so there is no hop. Many of us still continue to post a Spark on Monday, as we believe in Annie’s vision: “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

Mau and Cooper Murphy also are joining the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy Plus. Click on their badge to join.

HALLOWEEN RASPBERRY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #217

Halloween Astrid - Sunday Selfies

It was my turn to pester Mom while she was on the computer, which meant I was coerced into doing this week’s selfie. After several attempts, I was not only getting bored but also annoyed. The selfie session ended with this raspberry. Of course, that’s the photo Mom decided to use.  At least she “fancied” it up a bit with a Halloween-themed frame.

I’m keeping this short today, as I need my Sunday morning/afternoon easy. Before I sign-off, however, I have been instructed to share with you the following info about hopping with us.

Blog Hop

Now it’s time to share your selfie and hop with us. Here are those hopping tips that we post each week.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.
  • Take the opportunity to visit some of the other hop-alongs and make some new friends or reconnect with some old ones.

Have a terrific and easy Sunday.

Purrs and paw-pats, Astrid

SNOOPERVISOR SAWYER

Caturday Art

Caturday Art -Sawyer in tub.

Mom took this photo of me sitting in the bathtub snoopervising our dad when he was fiddling with the plumbing. He has been strictly forbidden, by our current and past plumber, to touch the plumbing. However, he threw caution out with the bath water and attempted to fix the disappearing hot water problem. So I felt the need to keep my eyes on him.

To create my art, Mom used the Cherry Blossom filter from Paint and added the summer coloring feature (she thinks). She decided it had the look of autumn or Halloween and so added what she is calling an autumn-colored  “sticks” border from piZap to enhance the look.

The original photo really isn’t good, which made it perfect for art. It’s badly out of focus and the composition is lousy. But with the various textures, it made for interesting art.

I am entering the “arty” photo in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. To find links to other art or enter your own creation, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Reminder

I know you know that if we are posting Caturday Art today our Sunday Selfies blog hop is tomorrow. If you have the opportunity, get that photo taken today. Then you’ll have all of Sunday to get your easy on. I can guarantee I’ll be doing lots of relaxing and won’t be back as your host. I think it might be Astrid, but that could change.

Have a great Caturday whatever you have planned.

Purrs and paw-pats, Sawyer

TOO HOT TO THINK ABOUT CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #125

Friendly Fill-Ins

Each Friday we join Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Lorianne (Four-Legged Furballs) for fill-ins. It’s an opportunity for participants to share a bit about themselves as well as learn about their fellow bloggers. Ellen and Lorianne each select two sentences to be completed and post them on their blogs on Thursday.

This is a blog hop. To join, click on the fill-ins badge.

My completions are in teal italics.

1. My favorite font is Comic Sans followed by Bradley Hand.

2. October is perfect for finishing my Christmas shopping. I always used to be finished in August, but I’ve been slacking off the past few years.

3. Where I live is too hot and humid for me and becomes more so with each passing year. It was 88 degrees here yesterday.

4. I feel very sad that it is getting dark earlier and earlier this time of year.

Feline Friday

In order to join the blog hop at Comedy Plus, I am sharing a photo of Cooper Murphy. He was on the catio bathing when I surprised him.

BYE-BYE BLUEBIRD

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Each Thursday our friends, Teddy and Angel Sammy, host a day of poetry. They provide us with an inspiration photo to get our poetic juices flowing. Sammy also sends a really fabulous poem from the bridge. He’s an exceptional poet, so even if you don’t want to participate by writing a poem, his are always a must read. You will also find links in the comments to the poems of other bloggers. Click the badge to the left to be transported to Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s today’s photo.

We know some of our furiends are not fans of burds, but we didn’t select the photo, we are just writing about it. None of us have ever seen a real bluebird much less an entire birdbath full. They sure are colorful. Mom says she has only seen a bluebird once. It was a few years ago in the yard of a friend who lives in the country.

Anyhoo, here’s our poem. It probably will not be what you are expecting.

Is Our Mom Crazy?

Mom says that she was a Bluebird*,
But that’s the stupidest thing we’ve ever heard.
We’ve never heard her chirp or seen her fly,
So we know she must be telling a lie.
She says she didn’t have feathers or a beak.
A lot of malarkey, that’s what we think?
She said she was more like a Brownie,
But we’ve dismissed that premise soundly.
Brownies are something people like to eat…
Just like our favorite nommy cat treats.
Then she said it was a lot like a Kit Scout.
We really don’t get what that’s about.
Why didn’t she say she was a kid scout?
Then we wouldn’t be so full of doubt.
She showed us her photo in a cap and vest.
She claimed the vest had a red breast.
She told us she was in the Robins troop.
Does she think we are total nincompoops?
If she’s a Bluebird, she can’t be a Robin.
She must have cracks in her noggin’.
We know she’s old and this was the past,
So we guess we shouldn’t be so aghast.
Her memory by now is so full of holes
What she’ll come up with next we’ll never know.
But we can no longer trust anything she says.
She’s mad as a hatter and crazier than a blue jay.

Thankful Thursday

We also join the blog hop at Brian’s Home each Thursday after telling you all our thankfuls. This week it is our mom and dad who are grateful. The huge mud hole in the backyard has dried out. Tomorrow the footings will be dug for the addition to our house…only three months behind schedule. What makes mom the happiest is that she should only have to look at this from the kitchen window for six more months.

To join the blog hop, post for what you are thankful and then click Brian’s badge to go to his blog.

We’ll see y’all tomorrow for Friendly Fill-Ins.

Purrs and paw-pats, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

* Bluebirds were once a group within the Camp Fire Girls (now Camp Fire) organization. This group no longer exists within the organization. You can read more about Bluebirds here.

Comments

Unfortunately, the comments Kitties Blue have been leaving on many blogs are not appearing. This happened after we added the SSL certificate to our web-site. My guess is that these blogs no longer recognize our URL. It seems to be the blogs that use Google to identify the commenter. I changed our URL on my Google account, but that did not seem to make a difference. Some of the blogs on which I know our comments are not appearing are: Spitty Speaks, Animal Shelter Volunteer Life, Jan’s Funny Farm, Tomcat Commentary by Tim, Stunning Keisha and Manx Mnews. I know there are others as well. Please check your spam folders for our comments.

HERE COMES THE SUN

Sparks

Golden Sun (Sol D'Oro)

My Spark for today exactly represents how I feel and respond to the sun. When days are dreary and cloudy, I feel down and droopy. The sun coming out will almost always bolster my spirits. After a summer filled with rain, I definitely hope to see more sun during autumn.

The background for today’s Spark is one of Dad Tom’s photographs. It is Sole d’Oro, created in 2017 by Dale Chihuly. The glass sculpture is 14½ x 14 x 14 feel and currently is installed at the Biltmore, Asheville, North Carolina. The exhibit will be open through October 7. (If you are unfamiliar with Dale Chihuly, you can read about him here.)

For my younger readers, you may not know who Wilma Rudolph was. Rudolph (June 23, 1940 – November 12, 1994) was an American sprinter, who became a world-record-holding Olympic champion and international sports icon in track and field. She competed in the 1956 Olympic Games winning a bronze medal. In the 1960 games she won three gold medals. To learn more about her, click here.

Wishing everyone a day filled with sunshine!
