Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
We were provided with a beautiful and poignant photo for this week’s poetry challenge. It is from a cemetery in the Ukraine. I’ve had this photo in my mind all week trying to decide what I would write. If I can, I try to include a cat in the poem, and I hope you will appreciate that I did that today.
Love and Devotion
This beautiful young woman lying in repose,
Lithe and lovely even in death,
So like a cat luxuriating in the sun.
She must have been beloved and cherished.
We imagine those flowers were
Placed there by her lover. But we also can
Imagine an exquisite cat lying in her arms.
Perhaps one comes to visit, pushes
The blooms aside and snuggles close,
Again in the arms of her mistress and
Wishing to feel her warm body
And gentle touch upon its head.
When the sun goes down and
The stone cools, does the cat leave
To return again on each warm day?
Where is it now? Looking for some
Small gift among the grass and trees
To present to the mistress she adores?
Her devotion is endless and heartbreaking.

Thankful Thursday
Each week Kitties Blue and I also join the blog hop over at Brian’s. We count our blessings every day, but on Thursdays we get the opportunity to put them in print. This has been a rather up-and-down week. Construction did not begin on addition. We have been promised excavation will begin today, and all the kitties have their paws crossed that will come to pass. Sawyer had a couple of focal seizures. And the heat and humidity has been ghastly.
On the upside, my dear friend’s daughter (who was a huge help in getting this blog off the ground) gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby girl. Sawyer discovered he loves springs (thank you Dori) and can play for hours until he has batted them all under the fridge. Otherwise, all things are status quo, and we certainly can’t complain about that!
