CHRISTMAS SECRET PAWS

Secret Paws 2017

As we have since we began blogging, we are participating in the Secret Paws gift exchange. This is coordinated by Truffle and Brulee’s mom, Paula, from Sweet Purrfections. We are most appreciative for her hard work in gathering all the information and assigning the Secret Paws.

Since it is a secret, we cannot tell you where or to whom we sent our gifts. And we have no idea what Mom sent, as we were not allowed to help with the wrapping for obvious reasons: 1) ripping the paper; 2) getting tape stuck in our furs; 3) chewing on ribbons; 4) trying to steal the gifts for ourselves and 5) spilling our guts and letting everyone know what we sent.

So here are some rather boring (and bad) photos of our wrapped gifts.

We have no idea who our Secret Paws is, as we have not received our gift yet. But Christmas is still six days away, and Mom won’t let us open our gifts until Christmas Day, so we aren’t worried about it. We’ll let you know all about our gift after Christmas as well as where we sent our package.

We told Mom that the Hello Kitty wrapping paper wasn’t a good enough cat representation for this post. So, here is our gratuitous kitten-in-a-box photo.

Last night was the first night Sawyer was not confined to the living room. When we went to sleep, he was sleeping on a pile of pillows atop the antique trunk at the end of Mom and Dad’s bed. You’ll have to wait until Thursday to find out how that experiment worked out, as tomorrow we’ll be wordless.

SPARKS OF FRIENDSHIP

Sparks: Week #11

a budding friendship

All Kitties Blue and our mom and dad are delighted that Cooper Murphy has taken Sawyer under his paw and is teaching him the way of indoor cats. We know that friendships can wax and wane and even come to an end, so we all have our paws crossed that this friendship remains in place throughout their lifetimes.

Sparks is a weekly blog hop established and hosted by Annie at McGuffy’s Reader. In establishing the hop, she wrote this, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

REBELLION OF KITTIES BLUE

Sunday Selfies: #175

Kitties Blue are rebelling. (Pray for us that Santa Claws doesn’t find out!) We have collectively put down our paws and refused to host the blog hop. Week after week and year after year, one of us is here (with the exception of a few guest hosts). We told the mom if she couldn’t find a guest host for today’s post, she’d just have to do this herself.

So guess what? She accepted our challenge but said she was going to invite a guest to join her. So there is the twofur twofer we hinted at yesterday.

Kitties Blue and Kitties Kimmell moms.

Instead of cats today, we present two cat moms. You probably recognize our mom on the left. And we suspect most of you recognize the lady on the right as well. That is Teddy and Angel Sammy’s mom, Pam, from Two Spoiled Cats. On Thursday the two moms and two dads traveled about two hours each and met for lunch. According to Mom, the food was terrific, but the camaraderie and conversation was even better.

All Kitties Blue, except the non-stop play team of Cooper Murphy and Sawyer, are looking forward to an easy Sunday. We hope that is among your plans as well…of course, after you snap and post your selfie.

For anyone new to hopping or our blog hop, here are a few guidelines.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.

Thanks for hopping.

CONGENIAL CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Caturday Art

As she always does, Mom created today’s art for Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. She agreed, however, to allow me to write my very first post. As I have never done this before, I hope you’ll forgive me if I don’t do a very good job.

Our art today was created using a photo Dad Tom took yesterday afternoon after I returned home from the vet. That’s correct, you read that right! Yesterday I got my first vaccinations. I will share more about that after Mom shows off her creation.

Caturday Art

Astrid was in the shark bed atop the dining room table when I meandered by on my way to her cocoon bed (the bright blue and grey blob behind the shark bed. We exchanged no meows, growls, hisses or any other form of kitty communication but just stared at each other for a little while.

Caturday Art

Mom used the Thoreau filter from the Painnt app, added the blue scroll border using piZap and added the frame with Picasa.

Here’s the original photo for a comparison.

We are entering the arty version in Athena’s blog hop. If you’d like to enter or check out some of the other creations, click on her badge.

Now…more about me!

I had no idea anything unusual was going to occur. Dad put that thing my furblings call a PTU, which I rode in once before, on the dining room table. I got inside and checked it out and then went about my business. A little later Mom shut me in the bathroom. Dad came in with that PTU and loaded me in it.

We went to the car where I sat in the carrier on Mom’s lap. Sometimes I looked out the window. During the entire trip, I did not make even the teeniest sound.

Our vet Dr. Neel is on vacation in a place Mom called, “Paris.” We saw another vet and Tameka, who I hear is my fursibs’ favorite tech. She weighed me. I weigh  5.1 pounds now. Nineteen days ago I only weighed 3.9 pounds. I inspected every inch of the exam room and then got three shots. Because I was very growly, the vet wrapped me up like a “purrito” after the first one. I didn’t try to hurt the vet lady. And she gave me treats when she finished! Score!

I heard some discussions about returning in three weeks for another vaccine and some type of “boy bits” surgery. I need to ask Mau and Cooper Murphy what that’s all about.

On the return trip home, I didn’t make even the littlest chirp. Mom had some additional treats with her and doled them out slowly on the way home. Double score!

I spent most of the remainder of my day in Astrid’s cocoon or the SleepyPod. That was a lot of excitement for a little guy

Sunday Selfies Reminder

I’ve been informed that I must remind all our friends to stop by for Sunday Selfies tomorrow. I think Mom mentioned something about a “two-fur” from us. I don’t know what that is, but I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

How’d I do? Mom claims I was a bit wordy, and she’d be the one to know!

CHRISTMAS MEMORIES

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #82

We are back again with more holiday-themed fill-ins. Kitties Blue asked me to complete all four this week. As I always do, I’ve used teal italics for my completions.

1. Snow is beautiful when it is falling, but I want it all to melt before it turns grimy and ugly.

2. I enjoy decorating everything with white lights at Christmas. They glow makes me happy.

3. One holiday memory that I cherish is the year my grandparents gave me a pogo stick for Christmas. My grandpa got on and “pogoed” himself right into the juniper bushes.

4. I always thought that Santa gifts were the best. That’s where all the fun stuff could be found…crayons, silly putty, pick-up sticks, jacks and slinkies!

Neither Dad Tom nor I have taken any photos as yet of this year’s decorations. And we didn’t decorate last year, as my heart was not in it after Fiona’s passing. Because of that, I am sharing some past Christmas photos that you may or may not have seen. They are from 1950, 1966, 2012 and 2015.

Christmas Memories

Friendly Fill-Ins is a weekly blog hop hosted by friends, Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). If you’d like to participate, you can find the fill-in sentences on their blogs each Thursday. After you complete your post, you can enter the hop on Annie’s blog. KITTIES BLUE SAVE CHRISTMAS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Today we begin a new challenge for Angel Sammy’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday at Two Spoiled Cats. After three rounds of using prompts from the alphabet, we now are challenged to write a poem inspired by a photo posted by Sammy and Teddy’s mom, Pam.

This is the photo Mom Pam posted last Thursday. It is followed by our poem.

Kitties Blue Save Christmas

The Day Kitties Blue Saved Christmas

As the nine of us hunkered down to wait for Santa,
the sky grew cloudy; we watched a huge storm brewing.
It was massive with turbulent mammatus clouds, and we
worried that Santa’s RPS* would not be working.
When a bolt of lightening caused our lights to flicker
all we could do was cross our paws, purr and pray
that Santa and his reindeer would come through okay.
We were certain he had faced similar conditions
in the four centuries he’d been delivering presents,
but still we feared for the reindeers’ and Santa’s safety.
We paced the floor, wondering how we could help when
the youngest of us, Sawyer, cleared his throat and meowed, “I
bet, if we turn on our lasers, we could guide him through.”
We were amazed the whippersnapper knew just what to do.
It’s his first Christmas, and we didn’t know he was a
smartypants. First we contacted all our fursibs at the
Rainbow Bridge: Skooter, Steamer, Daphne, Thelma, Louise,
Twinkle, Chloe, Madison, MacKenzie and Fiona
and had them gather. Together, they set their halos
to high and shone the light toward earth. Then we all grabbed
our antlers, turned on our high beams and directed our eyes
toward heaven. The dazzling glow caught Santa’s attention,
and he knew just where to fly, directing his reindeer
through the dense clouds and down to earth from the sky.
As he put gifts in our stockings, we asked our friends to do
the same, and that’s how Santa delivered gifts to all in 2017.

A few of us agreed to to have our photos taken in our antlers: Giulietta, Cooper Murphy and the elusive Misty May.

Thankful Thursday

Each week we participate in this blog hop hosted by Brian. We have so much for which to be thankful, especially this time of year. Today we want to thank all are wonderful blogging friends who have remembered us by sending Christmas greetings. It touches our hearts that you care for us enough to make this kind gesture. The pet blogging family is the most caring, thoughtful and generous community, and we are grateful to be members and to have made so many fabulous friends.

A SNOWY SPARK

Sparks: Week #10

SNOW FALLS ON LONGHORNS

We had our first snow of the season on Saturday. The first snow is always magical and somehow cleansing. Watching it fall can be mesmerizing, calming and restorative. I don’t know that these cattle feel the same way, but they made a good background for today’s “Spark.” The photo of these longhorns was taken by Dad Tom on Saturday. He was on Route 11 in Virginia near Steele’s Tavern.

He’s photographed these bovines previously, and one starred as our Sunday Selfie guest host on post #111, “Inappropriate Tongue Use in Selfie.”

The author of today’s quote, Susan Orlean, is an American journalist and author. She has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1992. She also has contributed articles to many magazines, including Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Outside. Orlean is best known as the author of the 1998 book The Orchid Thief. It was adapted into the film Adaptation (2002), starring Meryl Streep.

MAURICIO’S SNOW-DAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies; Week #174

We had our first snow of the season yesterday. Though it snowed most of the day, we only got about three inches. It was very pretty to watch coming down and looked great sprinkled on the trees and bushes like powdered sugar. In keeping with that theme, Mom has added a snow effect to our site and framed Mau’s selfie in a snow-themed frame.

Mau's Snow Day Selfie

Mau was thinking of his lovely wife Allie (Friends Furever) when he snapped this selfie. He has his paws crossed that she likes it.

A Shocking Discovery

Before we get down to the business of hopping, Mom asked us to share with you a surprising encounter she had yesterday. She went out to the front porch to retrieve a package and came face to face with a kitten, slightly larger than Sawyer. The kitten was solid grey and a Manx like Sawyer. It had on a frayed-looking pink color. The kitten bolted as soon as it saw Mom. It appears that Sawyer has a sibling. Where it is living and who put the collar on it is a mystery. Should Mom or Dad spot it again or if we find out any information about this kitty, we’ll share it.

Blog Hop

Alrighty then…it is time to hop. We know everyone is busy with holiday preparations, but we are hoping you can take just a few moments to snap a selfie and join the hop. If you are new to hopping, here are a few tips.
