Sawyer’s Vet Visit Part II
I am going to show you some art my mom made, featuring me, but first, I want to let you know the results of yesterday’s blood work and why we have the best vet ever.
My phenobarbital level is 38. The therapeutic level can be as high as 45. Unfortunately a level over 30 can cause toxicity. I had my liver and kidney function checked as well. Both are normal. So for now, I am okay at my current level of medication. I don’t have to see Dr. Neel again for three months as long as I don’t have more than one seizure per month. Should I need more medication in the future, I will be switched to another drug or have another drug added to the phenobarbital.
In the past I have had a seizure after seeing Dr. Neel at the office (Vinton Veterinary Hospital) as well as when she was here for our annual round-up. Dr. Neel thinks those seizures are caused by stress. Super good news is that I did not have a seizure last night. So what was different?
If you read yesterday’s post then you know I remained very calm yesterday. When Dr. Neel took me to the back of the hospital for my blood work, we left the exam room with me totally wrapped in a fleecy blanket and my head covered. When we got to the back, Dr. Neel laid down on the table with me and cradled me in her arms keeping my head covered. She had one of the techs draw my blood and do my pawticure as she held me and changed our positions as needed. I did growl but did not try to claw or bite anyone.
If that doesn’t make Dr. Neel the world’s best vet, I don’t know what would. Now you know why I remained calm all the way home and didn’t seize. Dr. Neel said she thinks I am learning that they are not out to kill me when I visit.
I will continue to ask for purrs, prayers and POTP that I remain calm and seizure free. I am so appreciative of the support everyone has given me. Thank you.
Caturday Art
Mom created the art from a photo she took of me three days ago on the catio. First she added the HDR effect in Picasa. Then she used the Brushism effect from Painnt and tweaked the colors. She added the pink flowers around the corners with piZap and the green border with Picasa. I really like how my eyes look. What do you think?
Here’s the original photo. I am entering the arty one Mom created in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. If you’d like to join in or just view some other cool creations, click on Athena’s badge.
Sunday Selfie Reminder
Here’s your early warning to start planning your selfie for tomorrow. Discussion continues among Kitties Blue as to which of us will be here as your host. It will be our 200th Sunday Selfie post. You won’t want to miss that one.
Thanks for coming by to see our art and hear about my vet visit.
Purrs and paw-pats, Sawyer
p.s. If you are not a follower of “It’s a Wonderpurr Life,” why not? You must see the posts by Adorapurr (Dori) from yesterday. Dori performed in concert and introduced a new song. The link is to our favorite song, “Purple Underpants.” From there, you can find links to her other four songs.
Wow, you do have an awesome vet, Sawyer! I’m glad you didn’t have a seizure after that visit. Your art is lovely too! 🙂
What a pawsome vet ! We’re glad you’re feeling better, Sawyer. Purrs
Glad you’re doing well. Sounds scary but it sure helps to have a great vet!
Love your art 🙂

Wow, Sawyer, your vet really IS awesome. We are ramping up our bestest POTP for you, buddy.
Whoa! POTP goes to Sawyer. I’m gonna ax Dr. D. to lie on the table with me. I don’t get seizures but I get asthma attacks at the vet from stress.
Purrs and prayers from all of us Sawyer, and yes, that really is a most wonderful Vet!
Hi Sawyer!
I am so glad that things went well on your vet visit…And that the medications are working for you. I have my purrayers going full blast for you! (My Mom was a little worried).
I, Marvelous have not yet been to a visit at a Canadian vet. Mom says she is waiting until Dad’s next visit before we do that as I am absolutely terrified of other people! And I bite!
Stay strong buddy

Sawyer, this update makes us so happy. It is so comforting to know you can trust your V-E-T. You sure are in good hands, Sawyer, and we’re sending you lots more purrs and prayers!
P.S. “Purple Underpants” is now one of our favorite songs!
How happy we are for that great report, Sawyer – and we will keep the purrayers and POTP coming.
What a blessing your vet is !
I’m so glad you are seizure free Sawyer. Our mommy has stress induced seizures. They can be so so scary and make us all really nervous. We hope you have a super relaxing nice weekend
Wow, Sawyer. Your vet is great! We’re glad you’re doing better and we purr that you will be seizure-free. We love your art this week, too.
I am impressed to the end of my tail. And Mom is impressed all over. I have never heard of such compassion in a Vet’s office for a patient. I will always remember this and so will mommy.
I love the picture of you today and Mommy is going to actually do one too! Or try.
Such beautiful artwork! And so happy about Sawyer. We’ll keep praying that those seizures go away furrever and he’ll be all well again. We do envy the vet you have. We’ve been here 2.5 years and are still trying to find one that we have complete confidence in. Maybe your vet knows somebody in our area. Sigh…. Have a beautiful weekend. 😀 <3
Everyone needs a good vet like yours, Sawyer. I hope that you continue to be seizure-free.
Sawyer I do think you have an amazing vet – Dr. Neel treated you like her own and made sure you felt as safe and secure as possible while you were checked out. That’s just plain SWEET of her. I’m glad you won’t need more meds and I’m thrilled that you didn’t have a seizure. You are so lucky my little friend and I am hoping that you stay seizure-free. Mom and I think that beautifully arty photo your Mom jazzed up of you on the catio is super special.
Hugs, Teddy
Wow, your vet really is amazing!
I am so happy to know how wonderful your vet is.
Wow, she knows just what is needed to calm a kitty:)
That is a pretty art of you, Sawyer!
And Sawyer, you had no seizures after that?! That is super. Purrs that you will not have any more and that you won’t need more medication.
So glad ya wuz seizure-free. Angelique has had stress-induced seizures too (the vet, fights with me or Crockett), but hasn’t had one in over a year now. They are so scary!
