Thanksgiving

HOLY CR@P…WHAT’S THIS?

Sunday Selfies: Week # 172

We were totally looking forward to having Mom and Dad home from Atlanta. They left us on Tuesday to spend Thanksgiving with family. Of course, we were in good hands. Chris spoiled us with nip and treats and even wished us a Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday. Mom checked in often through the PetCube cam, talked to and played red dot with us. Guess it could have been worse…

AND NOW IT IS!

Check out this “selfie.”

Interloper requests selfie.

Moments after entering the house, Dad found a note from Chris about a stray kitten she’d been feeding the last couple of days. She had set it up in a box with warm blankets on the deck of the vacant house next door. Before we could blink or meyowl our protests, the kitten was set up in our living room with all the comforts of home.

The kitten is a totally human-socialized, grey tabby Manx. Mom thinks it is a boy, but didn’t want to be too intrusive. After all, they just met.

Kitty has the sniffles and maybe a bit of a weepy eye. Mom has already posted a photo and description on our neighborhood forum. We all have our paws crossed that this little interloper will be claimed. She will post on all the other on-line lost and found pet sites later today.

As you can see, this baby needed help with a selfie. We know all of you are masters of the selfie and can probably manage on your own. So…what are you waiting for? Get that selfie snapped and added to the hop.

Hopping Guidelines

If you are new to hopping, here are some guidelines for joining this one.

  • The link to add your selfie to the hop is below.
  • You also will find below the code to use if you’d like the hop to appear on your blog.
  • Posting on Sundays is not necessary to join.
  • You do not need to be a cat to enter. All anipals are welcome regardless of species.
  • The hop remains open for entries through Thursday midnight.
  • Please be so kind as to display our badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.

Big News Tomorrow

We are now participating in the Sparks blog hop each Monday. This hop was established and is hosted by our friend, Annie, from McGuffy’s Reader. Sparks is an opportunity to post an inspirational quote and/or photo as a pick-me-up for your fellow bloggers. Ours for tomorrow will include some exceptionally great news, so we are inviting everyone to visit. Surprises are so much fun…don’t you think? Well, maybe surprises that don’t include a kitten in the living room.

Anyhoo, until then…

With purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

THANKSGIVING WISHES FROM KITTIES BLUE

Thoroughly Poetic Thanksgiving Thursday

Today’s prompt letter should be “X,” an exceptionally hard letter to poetize about. Being the good pal that he is, angel Sammy gave us all permission to chose our own subject. He didn’t even post any suggestion words. We are quite thankful for this!

As you might expect, we decided to write a poem of Thanksgiving for our Mom and Dad. Though it lists some of our many transgressions, our humans understand we are cats and mostly do as we please.

Thankful for the Bestest Mom and Dad

Sometimes Kitties Blue are not well behaved.
We act as if we’re totally depraved.
We whine and caterwaul for our dinner…
Can’t help it if we don’t want to get thinner.
We ask to go in and out dozens of times a day;
It is one of our favorite games to play.
We camp on the stairs so no others can pass.
Yeah, sometimes each of us can be a gigantic ass.
We like to wrestle and bite each other on the necks.
I guess you could say we are the worst smart alecks.
Growling, hissing and spitting can be fun,
When we can make the other kitty squeal and run.
All of these pastimes drive the humans to distraction,
As they try to stop us from committing each infraction.
We pay them back by sleeping east/west in their bed
Or, like Misty May, upon their faces or heads.
You’d think we’re not fit to live in a house…
That we should be outside to catch a mouse
And have it for our breakfast, lunch and dinner,
As punishment for our being incessant sinners.
But our humans love us. We know this to be true.
It doesn’t matter what we meyowl or do.
So today we thank them for giving us a home
From which we have no desire to roam.
And good noms, snuggles, scritches and kisses.
We are kitties whose lives are filled with riches.
Happy Thanksgiving to our Mom and Dad.
Now fetch us some turkey or we’ll be very bad!

THANKSGIVING-THEMED FILL-INS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #80

1. I can’t wait to eat pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. I will be making it using my grandma’s recipe, so I know it will be just how I like it.

2. My favorite kind of pie is apricot. I’ve never made one. The best place for apricot pie is The Hickory Pit in California. I went twice when we were there in September and got a piece each time.

3. This year, I am particularly thankful for having the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with family. It will be the first time doing so since Tom and I were married.

Friendly Fill-Ins

Bud and Tom Blue – 2002

4. A funny holiday tradition in my/our house is not really funny but a “joke,” as well as a tradition, among Tom’s family. If any of the kids or grandkids wanted to remain in Tom’s dad’s will, they had to make and eat cranberry relish on Thanksgiving. We still make it every year as do two of Tom’s nephews; though, Tom’s dad passed away 10 years ago. We will be spending Thanksgiving with those nephews and their families. The tradition has moved on to the next generation, and the great grandkids will be collaborating on making the relish!

I am joining Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie’s Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop. My completions are in orange italics this week. To join the hop, click on the badge, which will take you to Annie’s blog, McGuffy’s Reader.

As this is a cat blog, Kitties Blue said it is a requirement that I post a feline photo, especially as I did not do so yesterday. They are quite insulted that yesterday’s post included a squirrel and a cardinal only.

In keeping with the theme of today’s fill-ins, our favorite turkey cat is making an encore appearance.

Friendly Fill-Ins

BEST BLESSED THANKSGIVING EVER

Thoroughly Poetic Thanksgiving

We are turning this regular Thursday event into a Thanksgiving event for today as we have much for which to be thankful. This week’s prompt letter is supposed to be “X,” but we’re taking some poetic license and turning that into “ex!”

 Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Exceptionally Good News!

Kitties in shelters don’t know what to expect:
Will they be there a week, a month, or more?
That was the case for our sponsored cat Swizzle.
Being a shy and senior kitty her outlook was poor.

Volunteers Tracey and Kevin* visited often,
But she languished at PAWS for two-plus years.
We prayed for her and shared her with you,
As her plight brought Mom often to tears.

We received updates and photos from Kevin,
And we made her an honorary Blue kitty…
Always sad she was overlooked again and again
In spite of her extraordinary and exquisite beauty!

But recently the good news arrived.
Finally our prayers were being answerd…
A new home with another volunteer.
Swizzle was getting her happily ever after.

So that is our poem for Thanksgiving,
But it isn’t an end but a new beginning.
Please say, “hi,” to Miss Piggy and Pumpkin,
Two new PAWS kitties we’ll be sponsoring.

I AM NOT A TURKEY!

Sunday Selfies: Week #119

I was incredulous when I discovered that our mom called me both a turkey and a hog yesterday. Then she had the audacity (yeah, I know some big words), to ask me to do the selfie today.

Being a Cat Scout of integrity and sworn to being helpful, I obliged her with several photos. And then what did she do? She selected one that looks just like a mug shot. If you think I am exaggerating, check it out for yourself.

turkey photos

The second photo she selected isn’t much better! It distinctly shows my displeasure with that first photo. There’s a super blurry one that she says looks as if I am giving her a paw gesture like the one humans use when they are really infuriated with another person. Again, I must reiterate that I am a Cat Scout and would NEVER do such a thing. I was merely moving my paw into position to wash it. I swear!

I did dress as a turkey for a party at Cat Scouts, and as I think I’m much cuter in that photo, I told mom she had to share it with you as well.

I think the turkey drumstick was a nice addition, don’t you?

Cat4-001This is our Sunday Selfie Blog Hop. As it is the last hop prior to Thanksgiving, feel free to share a Thanksgiving-themed photo…or not!

Last week we had a couple more purrticipants than the previous week, but our numbers have still plummeted. We hope, if you were once one of our selfie friends and have stopped submitting, you will return. We miss you, and we are sure those who follow the hop do as well. And invite all your anipal friends to join us.

The link to add your selfie is below as is the code to add the hop to your blog if you’d like. If it isn’t too inconvenient, will you please add our badge to your post and/or link back to The Cat on My Head?

Thanksgiving Day Surprise

We know lots of you will be busy this week traveling or preparing for the holiday, but please take a few minutes to drop by on Thanksgiving. We will have a huge surprise that day. And, it won’t be any of us acting like a turkey!

Purrs and paw-pats, Mauricio with lots of love and smooches to my fabulous wife Allie

MAURICIO’S A TURKEY

As today is Thanksgiving here in the good old U.S. of A., Mom asked us if we’d like to share with y’all the things for which we are grateful. We agreed, but being cats we decided this was a good time to do a little bargaining. And being that the girls far out number the boy, we said we would share only if Mauricio dressed up as a turkey. Since our humans are constantly telling him he is a turkey, it seemed only natural that he should look like one.

He wasn’t happy, but gave in when we told him he could post small photos of himself in his Pilgrim and Indian attire, which he wore for his Cat Scout Service Project Thanksgiving Cards. So here he is for your giggling and guffawing pleasure, Turkey Cat Mau.

mau turkey

We told him that it was inappropriate as a turkey himself to be holding and planning to eat that gigantic turkey drumstick. He was the one who guffawed at that, so we relented. After all, no turkey will be served at our house tomorrow. The humans are going off to serve folks less fortunate than themselves. Mom did check and has assured us that a can of Turkey and Giblets dinner awaits us in the cupboard.

Mom has just reminded us that we are now totally off topic, so here are the things for which we are thankful:

1) Our humans, of course.
2) Three squares a day!
3) Oodles of toys.
4) Our nip plant.
5) The humans’ king-sized bed which we monopolize.
6) All our friends who regularly visit and comment on our blog as well as the occasional visitors.
7) All the bloggers who have befriended us and Mom. This is the most loving, caring and generous community to which any of us have ever belonged.
8) And finally: LOVE and lots of it.

Individually, Mau is grateful to have a beautiful and sweet girlfriend, Allie (Friends Furever), and so many wonderpurr friends at Cat Scouts, including Denmaster. Astrid is thankful to have the most loving boyfriend (who sends her kisses efurryday) a girl kitty could dream of having, Cat Scout Sampy (Kitty Cat Chronicles). Lisbeth is grateful for her chivalrous and handsome suitor, Cat Scout Charles. The rest of us remain unattached and, at least for now, are happy just the way are…paw-loose and fancy free!

As we promised Mau, here are his photos in his other Thanksgiving attire.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: THANKSGIVING 2012

While Mauricio is busy with The Cat Scout Jamboree (for which I am his designated typist), I have decided to do something for the first time…share an old post. I went back to my first year of blogging: 2012. This was the only post that published on a Thursday in November. It just happened to be Thanksgiving.

As none of you were reading my blog then, I thought you might enjoy it. I had only two comments that day, which was one more than usual. Most of my posts back then only garnered one comment. That was always from Meredith (my friend’s daughter).

So here it is with an added photo of Calista Jo (also an oldie but from a post the following week).

ARE KITTIES EVER THANKFUL?

by JANETBLUE on NOVEMBER 22, 2012

Not only are my eight turkeys normally not thankful for anything on this earth—they are cats after all—but they also are pretty ticked off that I am not preparing the Martha Stewart turkey roasted with a white wine and butter soaked cheese cloth covering it and basted in super goopy, maple syrup. Heck, I’m disappointed in myself for not making this fowl of deliciousness!

But I put Tom on a plane yesterday for Argentina so he can teach an International Volleyball Referee Course, and the closest I plan to get to a turkey is Michael Angelo’s frozen Chicken Parmesan. I will miss the roasting turkey and baking pumpkin pie smells. I think I have a pumpkin aroma candle somewhere. That should do the trick!

While I am waiting for the current temperature of 32 degrees to get a little closer to the predicted 64 degrees so I can head outside for a day of gardening, I am watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. And what should be at the start of the parade? The Hello Kitty balloon. What an auspicious start!

Throwback Thursday Thanksgiving

Kitten Calista Jo

Calista did seem pretty happy sharing my blueberry yogurt this morning! To show her appreciation, she sat in my lap purring and kneading. How blessed I am to have such a sweet, little furball to snuggle up to me before taking off to play with one of her favorite toys: the torn-off edge of my granola bar wrapper.

And now for the news I promised you, the weight of today’s newspaper: 4.4 pounds. It fell short of the promised 5 pounds. However, the number of pages of ad inserts far surpassed the prediction. They number a whopping 700. If I planned to shop, I think Black Friday would be well past by the time I poured over all that newsprint. So…off I go to the recycling bin and then the garden.

Throwback Thursday Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving Day 2012 “Roanoke Times” Virginia newspaper.

So that was it. Hope you enjoyed this blast from Thanksgiving past.

I bet the 2014 BLACK FRIDAY newspaper won’t come close to that of 2012. The evening news tonight said that retailers are already advertising and offering BLACK FRIDAY sale prices. My response to BLACK FRIDAY is always, “Just say, ‘No.'” That was actually the post following this Thanksgiving one.

THANKFUL THANKSGIVING THURSDAY

As today is Thanksgiving, you probably expected us to do a Thankful Thursday post. And you were right.

First: If you haven’t noticed, Mauricio wrote a Thanksgiving Poem, which we added to the side bar a few days ago. He did this for Cat Scouts…of course!

Second: We are thankful that our pawrents adopted us. We are thankful for our heated kitchen floor, sun puddles, nip and all our blog friends, who make this endeavor totally worthwhile.

Third: We are thankful to Me, You and Zu for this pawsome award. We don’t know how versatile we are as we mostly blog about ourselves, but we are grateful for the award and the support.

 versatile-blogger-award-from-radmaverix-11-3-13

As with most awards, this one has some rules. We are required to tell you seven things about ourselves. Whenever we get a requirement like this, we always do eight so that each of us get to answer.

Lily Olivia: I used to be a can-can dancer prior to being hit by a car when I was about four years old.

Mauricio: I was a mime in one of my past lives, which is why I can’t shut up now.

Misty May: My name sake won’t let me play volleyball on the beach with her ’cause I consider the sand to be one giant litter box.

Giulietta: I used to have a perm, but I didn’t like looking like a miniature poodle.

Fiona: When everyone else is sleeping, I get on-line and read dog blogs.

Astrid: My name means “beautiful as a goddess” in Old Norse.

Lisbeth: I want to get my ears pierced, but Mom thinks I am too young.

Calista Jo: My secret wish is to play the part of Hello Kitty on Broadway.

We are supposed to pass this on to 15 other blogs. These are our nominees. Some of you have probably already received this award, but as this one looks different, we hope you will accept it as well. And we only have 12…sorry!

** Here Comes Noodle  **  Cats & Co  **  onespoiledcat  **  The Island Cats  **  Spitty Speaks ** A Tonk’s Tail  ** Friends Furever  **  Tomcat Commentary by Tim  ** Prancer Pie  **  Fur Everywhere  **  Jacquelines’s Cat House  ** Colehaus Cats **

And finally, we are thankful to Playful Kitty for this second award.

one-lovely-blog1 Though this award has no requirements attached, we do want to pass it on to a few of our friends. They are:

** Nylablue and Sherriellen’s Purrfect Pad ** Hannah and Lucy  ** Animal Shelter Volunteer Life ** The Island Cats ** Beaded Tail ** A Tonk’s Tail ** Bailey Boat Cat ** Tomcat Commentary by Tim ** Sushi’s Diary ** (Cat)achresis ** Fur Everywhere **  Furries of Whisppy ** Colehaus Cats **

Whether you are celebrating Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, both or neither, we hope you have a terrific day.

Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
