BEST BLESSED THANKSGIVING EVER

Thoroughly Poetic Thanksgiving

We are turning this regular Thursday event into a Thanksgiving event for today as we have much for which to be thankful. This week’s prompt letter is supposed to be “X,” but we’re taking some poetic license and turning that into “ex!”

 Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Exceptionally Good News!

Kitties in shelters don’t know what to expect:
Will they be there a week, a month, or more?
That was the case for our sponsored cat Swizzle.
Being a shy and senior kitty her outlook was poor.

Volunteers Tracey and Kevin* visited often,
But she languished at PAWS for two-plus years.
We prayed for her and shared her with you,
As her plight brought Mom often to tears.

We received updates and photos from Kevin,
And we made her an honorary Blue kitty…
Always sad she was overlooked again and again
In spite of her extraordinary and exquisite beauty!

But recently the good news arrived.
Finally our prayers were being answerd…
A new home with another volunteer.
Swizzle was getting her happily ever after.

So that is our poem for Thanksgiving,
But it isn’t an end but a new beginning.
Please say, “hi,” to Miss Piggy and Pumpkin,
Two new PAWS kitties we’ll be sponsoring.

LOVE FOR RESCUE CATS

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 8.45.29 PM

If it is Thursday, it must be time for another poem. I am totally enjoying entering Sammy‘s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday each week. This week, our prompt letter is “R.”

FOR THE LOVE OF RESCUE CATS

Rescue kitties are the best,
Ears and paws above the rest.
Please remember not to shop.
When it comes to cats…please adopt.
Cats are waiting, confined to cages,
Young and old…all stages and ages.
They need your love and support
And a comfy home of any sort.
Apartment, house or palace,
Atlanta, New York or Dallas,
Wherever you live or roam,
You’ll find cats without a home.
Don’t forget to neuter and spay.
Let’s empty those shelters today
Making sure cats are loved and warm,
Protected from all sorts of harm.
They need help from all who care,
So please adopt one or a pair.
As rescue kitties are the best,
Ears and paws above the rest.

All Kitties Blue, both past and present, are rescue cats in one way or another. Some just showed up on our porch. Others were adopted from friends or friends of friends who took in stray, pregnant cats. Daphne and her fursibs were discovered in the engine compartment of my car. Dad Tom and I saved Lily Olivia and her brothers from the street. Astrid and her brother Bobby were discovered on a roof as infants. Those are just a few of the ways our 17 cats joined the family of Kitties Blue.

Unfortunately, at this juncture, we are unable to add new members to our family. And we have a very special senior kitty who is longing for a home. After being surrendered to PAWS in Connecticut, from where she was originally adopted, Swizzle, our lovely, sponsored cat and honorary Kitty Blue has been waiting for a new home for over two years now.

Please share and help us find this beautiful lady a loving and forever home.

Thank you!

SWIZZLICIOUS SUNDAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies Blog Hop : Week #106

Today we have a guest host, but she isn’t really a guest as she is our honorary sisfur, Swizzle. But as she doesn’t actually live with us, she is sort of a guest.

Whatever you decide to call her, it best include the word beautiful or lovely. Actually not enough superlatives exist to describe her. But we’ll let you decide for yourselves.

PAWS cat Swizzle

Swizzle lives at PAWS of Connecticut. We first introduced you to her more than two years ago on July 24, 2014 when we began sponsoring her. We have written about her many times since then with the hope of finding her a home. We will sponsor her as long as she remains at PAWS even if that is the remainder of her life. But we pray for her that will not be her fate!

Swizzle and all the other PAWS’ kitties are very lucky as our good blogging friends, Tracey and Kevin (meowmeowmans at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life) are volunteers at PAWS. They always give Swizzle extra loving from us, and Kevin sends us photos of her when he can. We received several new ones a couple of days ago. We selected this one for today due to her head tilt and coquettish expression. We have several others which we will share in the coming weeks.

Swizzle would make a great kitty for a senior citizen looking for a special companion. If any of our readers know of someone looking for a mature kitty, please tell them about our honorary sisfur. To learn more about Swizzle, you can visit the PAWS website. You can also see all the posts we have written about her by searching Swizzle on this blog. The search box is at the bottom of our left sidebar.

Cat4-001It’s now your turn to share your selfie or one of an anipal friend or acquaintance on the blog hop. The link is below as is the code to include the hop on your blog. Purrlease link back to The Cat on My Head and/or display our badge if you do this. And let us know in a comment or e-mail if you have any problems linking up. Mom will make sure you are included. Many thanks to everyone who continues to support and pawticipate in our hop!

Now that you’ve taken care of your selfie, kick back, take it easy and enjoy the last day of the Olympics.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

SUPERNATURAL ASTRID

Caturday Art

Astrid - Supernatural Art

Astrid was snuggled into the ess scratcher when Dad Tom snapped this photo. She has established a base camp for herself on the dining room table. It’s the ideal location as the cat tree is next to the table. The PTU is on the table, and she often sleeps in it. Mauricio and Fiona also curl up in it occasionally. Astrid also has her fleece bed on the table. It is exclusively her bed. I purchased it just for her at a cat show, and no one else ever sleeps on it. The ess was put on the table the last time Chris came to clean. Somehow it never made it back to the floor, and now I would feel guilty if I moved it.

Today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. Astrid and all the Kitties Blue would like to remind everyone to Adopt not Shop. Lots of kitties have been waiting in shelters for loving homes for a super long time, including our sponsored kitty, Swizzle. She is at PAWS Connecticut, and you can see her photo on our sidebar. Won’t you please consider inviting her to live with you?

I used Dreamscope again this week to create the art. I selected the supernatural filter. The corner designs were added in piZap and the frame using Picasa.

Cat4-001Sunday Selfies Blog Hop

And that brings us to tomorrow and Sunday Selfies. It’s week #90. I have absolutely no idea who will be hosting, one of the Kitties Blue or a guest. Entries were a bit light last week. Hope to see more off you taking part tomorrow. Remember…it’s a great way to make new friends.

It is with a heavy heart that we say farewell to Lexi from the blog Deziz World. Seventeen-year-old, tabby Lexi (with her gorgeous green eyes) was a service cat for Mom Audra. Deziz will be handling service duties on her own for the time being. If you haven’t already, please stop by and leave your condolences.

WINTER PRINCESS SWIZZLE

I’ve decided to feature our honorary Kitty Blue, Swizzle, for Caturday Art. I hope you don’t mind as she was our guest host for Sunday Selfies last week. I have been sponsoring her for the past year at a half at PAWS of Connecticut and am happy to continue to do so. But I really want her to have a forever, loving home for Christmas. To read more about this gorgeous girl, click on the PAWS link above or click here to read our post from last week.

Winter Princess Swizzle

To create Swizzle’s Winter Princess look, I started with the Picture to People application and used their Neon effect. I followed that with the two interior borders added using piZap. My final additions were the drop-shadow mat and grey  frame from Picasa.

Winter Princess SwizzleHere is our Winter Princess as the natural beauty she is.

This is our entry in Athena and Marie’s Caturday Art Blog Hop. To join this fun hop and/or view the other art submissions, click on their badge.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A FOREVER HOME

Sunday Selfies: Week #69

Swizzle wants a forever home for Christmas.

This is our most beautiful, PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) of Connecticut, honorary Kitty Blue, Swizzle. We have featured her here often, and she is this week’s guest host for Sunday Selfies.

We have been sponsoring Swizzle for more than a year and a half, and she’d really like to have a loving and forever home in time to celebrate Christmas. Can’t you just see her lying under your tree waiting for Santa Paws to visit? What a wonderful Christmas that would make.

You may have seen Swizzle on the Animal Shelter Volunteer Life blog as well. Kevin (meowmeowmans) and Tracey are volunteers at PAWS and have shared her on their blog. The photos above were taken by Kevin. Kitties Blue and I are grateful that Kevin and Tracey visit Swizzle often and, along with other volunteers, give her lots of love. But we believe in our hearts that it is her turn to have the life she deserves in a loving home.

Swizzle was originally adopted from PAWS with her sister, who unfortunately has crossed the Bridge. She was returned to PAWS when her owner had to move to a “no-pets allowed” home. You can read my original post here. You can also visit her on the PAWS website.

Swizzle’s original information stated she was six years old. In reality she is about 11 1/2 years old, which Kevin confirmed in an e-mail to me this evening. I know this lessens her chances of finding a home, but if you have been thinking about adopting a senior kitty, please consider Swizzle. If you cannot provide her with a home, please share wherever you can and tell your friends about her.

Now it’s time for you to add your selfie to the blog hop. We know everyone is very busy with holiday preparations, but it only takes a minute or two to snap your photo. We are truly grateful to all of you who join us each week and always enjoy seeing what you have to offer. Last week besides the usual kitties and woofies and our Canadian donkey guest host, we were joined by a kangaroo, ponies and some ibex.

You can add your link below as well as get the code to post the hop on your blog. If you’d like to do this, I only ask that you display our Sunday Selfies badge and/or link to The Cat on My Head.

ADOPT A SHELTER PET MONTH FEATURING SWIZZLE

  adopt-a-shelter-pet-month

October is Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and we know a real sweetie who has been waiting way too long for her forever home. Her name is Swizzle, and we introduced you to her in July 2014. She was waiting at PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) of Connecticut for her perfect family to discover her. At that time we began sponsoring her and welcomed her to the family as an honorary Kitty Blue. You can read that original post here. I knew I would continue to sponsor her for as long as it took for her to find that special home; though, I never expected her to be waiting more than a year later.

If you read The Cat on My Head regularly, you know that I have featured Swizzle here several times. Our dear friend Kevin (meowmeowmans) and his wife Tracey visit and give her loving often as well as share photos with me. Kevin kindly featured her just two days ago on his blog, Animal Shelter Volunteer Life. Yet, Swizzle continues to wait. This is what she has to say:

PAWS cat, Swizzle continues to wait for her forever home.

Here’s part of Swizzle’s bio from the PAWS website:

I was adopted from PAWS with my sister when we were just eight weeks old. She passed away some time ago and I’ve been lonely. After six years, I’m back at PAWS because my owner had to move to a place that did not allow pets. I miss my owner. But things can only get better, right?

I have tons of love to bestow on a new person. I just love to be brushed and petted! Sometimes I’m playful, I love the track ball, but mostly, I’m happy to just sit next to you. Rub behind my ears and I’ll purr happily with my head against your leg. What could be better than that? I don’t mind being picked up, but I’m not a lap cat. I do not like dogs at all. I’ve lived with older children (tweens). I can be tolerant of other cats, but nobody can replace my sister. I’m indoors only. I do not like loud noises and can be jumpy at times.

Swizzle is now about eight years old, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations.

If we didn’t have a full house, I’d drive to Connecticut, pick her up and bring her home to Virginia. Since I can’t do this, don’t you have room in your heart and home for his beautiful girl? If not, please share about her with your friends and family and on your blog if you have one. Let’s find this beautiful, sweet and deserving girl a home for the holidays.

REMEMBER ME THURSDAY

Uniting the World for Orphan Pets

We are joining Remember Me Thursday® and have lit a candle at RememberMeTursday.org for our sweet Swizzle. Swizzle is the kitty we continue to sponsors at PAWS of Connecticut. She’s been waiting for more than a year for her new forever home.

Candles lit on this day (the fourth Thursday of September annually) across the world honor the pets who lose their lives without the opportunity to know the comforts of a loving home. These candles shine brightly on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption—just like beautiful Swizzle.

remember me

The Remember Me Thursday® global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.

remember me

Our four rescued cats, Astrid, Lily Olivia, Lisbeth and Calista Jo invite you to join us, other pet-lovers and advocates and animal welfare organizations around the world in lighting your own candle. Visit the link listed in the first paragraph to light your candle and learn more about Remember Me Thursday®. Or light your own candle at home. Just make certain it is either battery operated or in an area your pets cannot access.

SENSATIONAL SWIZZLE’S SELFIE

Our guest host for today’s Sunday Selfies is our very own honorary Kitty Blue, Swizzle. As Adopt a Shelter Cat Month comes to a close we wanted to share this sensational and beautiful adoptable cat from PAWS Connecticut. We have been sponsoring Swizzle since last July and will continue to do so for as long as she remains at PAWS. Of course, our wish is for her to find the purrfect home and family.

sensational

Look at those incredible green eyes, luxurious grey furs and magnificent whiskers. Isn’t she gorgeous? You can see another photo of her in the Adoptable Pets section of our sidebar.

To find out more about Swizzle, you can see her PAWS profile by clicking here.

If anyone out there would like to adopt this sensational beauty, Mom would be happy to help with adoption fees and subsidize her care for a few months.

Cat4-001If you know of other kitties who are in need of homes, please consider featuring them on any of our Sunday Selfies Blog Hops.

As always, we are looking forward to seeing what y’all have to show our readers today. Some of you have become so proficient at snapping selfies that you can even do it in your sleep. We cats are so talented!

Feel free to use the code provided below if you’d like to display the hop on your blog. If you do, please display our badge and/or link back to The Cat on My Head. Thank you.

Have a sensational and easy Sunday.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona,  Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

p.s. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Kevin (meowmeowmans) from Animal Shelter Volunteer Life for looking in on Swizzle when he and wife Tracey volunteer at PAWS as well as for giving her extra love from us. We also appreciate him regularly sending us photos of this special honorary Kitty Blue.
