FRIENDLY FILL-INS AND FRIENDSHIP

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #111

This week, Kitties Blue have passed on helping with fill-ins, so I’m on my own. They collectively agreed that “treats” should be the fill-in for numbers two through four.

1. Fireworks used to impress me more when I was younger than they do now. In fairness to some great fireworks displays I have seen, those in our city are only mediocre.

2. My favorite 4th of July picnic food is would be my homemade macaroni salad if we picnicked on the 4th.

3. I begin every day with opening the cat door to the catio, unless Dad Tom does it first.

4. Friendship is the best thing since sliced bread; though, friends probably existed long before anyone thought of slicing bread prior to selling it.

p.s. My new cat ears were a gift from Pam. Aren’t they spectacular!

Friendly Fill-Ins is a blog hop, currently being hosted by Ellen from 15 And Meowing and Lorianne from Four-Legged Furballs. The sentences to fill-in can be found on both blogs each Thursday. The hop takes place at Four-Legged Furballs on Friday. Click on the badge above to go there.

Customizable Cat Sock Giveaway

Today is day four of our special giveaway for ten pairs of cute and comfy, customizable cat socks from OurSock.com.

Our second winner has declined their prize, so a new winner was selected using Random.org. The new winners are Pipo and Mom Ingrid from Meezer’s Mews and Terrieristical Woofs. Congratulations.

Our third winner was selected, from those leaving comments on yesterday’s post. Random.org selected Teddy and Mom Pam from Two Spoiled Cats. Now, that’s what I call serendipity!

You still have seven additional opportunities to win by leaving a comment on this post and the following six.

This is a photo of Mom’s socks, featuring Mau. Winners will be able to select pink or blue socks and which of their kitties they’d like to immortalize.

TOESY TUESDAY GIVEAWAY

Cooper Murphy - Toesy Tuesday Giveaway

Cooper Murphy does have some pretty sweet toesies. But, sorry, we’re not giving those away. All 32 Kitties Blue toes will be remaining attached.

What we do have for you is the opportunity to win a pair of socks similar to those below.

Do you recognize that handsome face? That’s right, it’s Mauricio!

How would you like to see the face of your kitty on a pair of your very own socks? Of course, you would. If you are a multi-cat family, as we are, your biggest problem will be deciding which of your felines to feature. Dad Tom selected Mau, as his face is distinctive and recognizable.

These cool socks are the creation of a new company, Our Sock, which was started by a Duke University student and his brother. Our sock is a no-minimum sock shop where anyone can buy their own pair of custom socks.

The socks come in blue, as shown, or pink. A polyester blend, necessary for printing, is used for the body of the sock.  The toes, heels and cuffs are hand sewn from cotton for added durability and comfort. The custom cat socks are one-size-fits-most. They stretch enough to fit almost all adult sizes (men and women).

I am wearing my socks right now and can attest to the comfiness. I also find them to be very supportive.

Giveaway

Now for the best news: Our Sock has given Kitties Blue the opportunity to give away ten pairs of custom cat socks to the readers of The Cat on My Head. I will be selecting one winner each day using Random.org.

If you don’t win a pair, here’s the pricing information: One pair of socks is $24.99. Discounted pricing is available for large orders of custom cat socks. For two pairs of socks, the price is $22.50 per pair. (Use the discount code: KITTY2 at checkout.) For more than two pairs of socks, the price is just $17.50 per pair. (Use the promo code: KITTY3 during checkout).

Turnaround time is ten days, but my socks arrived more quickly.

NO FROU-FROU SELFIE FOR LILY OLIVIA

Before I show you my selfie, I just want to say how much all the Kitties Blue and our mom have enjoyed seeing all the BlogBlast4Peace posts from yesterday. We still have more blogs to visit and will continue to do so today.

Sunday Selfies: Week #169

I asked Mom to keep things simple this week when she framed my selfie. I agreed to take only one, and I cut off my ear. I thought it better not to gussy up the photo, or I’d be lost in all the froufrou.

NOVEMBER THEMED FILL-INS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #78

1. My favorite part of November is pumpkin pie.

2. Every November, I start to panic if I haven’t finished my Christmas shopping.

3. For me, peace is working in the garden when it is quiet outside (no lawnmowers, leaf blowers, weed whackers, chain saws…). I especially loved it when I could take Fiona with me, as it was one of her favorite things to do. (Hope you don’t mind seeing Fiona again today.)

Friendly Fill-Ins #78.

4. So far, my upcoming holiday plans include spending Thanksgiving with two of  Tom’s nephews and their families.

We are joining the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). You can find the fill-ins for the week each Thursday on both of their blogs.

SPARKS ON WEDNESDAY

Sparks: Week #4

We are all exhausted from partying yesterday for Me-yowl-o-ween! Most of us are trying to recover from our sugar overload coma. So, it’s a purrfect day for Wordless Wednesday, but we missed the Sparks blog hop on Monday and are going to use a few words and post our inspirational quote for the week.

Once again the photo was taken by Dad Tom. This is the Glade Creek Grist Mill, Babcock State Park, West Virginia. We think it is a great complement to the John Muir quote.

This is a blog hop established and hosted by our friend, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). In starting this hop, Annie said, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

ME-YOWL-O-WEEN WITH KITTIES BLUE

We’ll be partying with angel Sammy and Teddy today at Two Spoiled Cats. Mau and Teddy will be enjoying Halloween at Cat Scouts as well. And Lily Olivia will be hanging out with her gal pals at Crotchety Cougars.

Even though we’ll be out and about, Mom has promised to keep the snack table well stocked all day for anyone who pops in to visit. And Mau baked an endless supply of candy cakes.

Enjoy, but try not to hork on the carpet. We’ll do that when we get home!

TOTAL CAT MOJO REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

Total Cat Mojo by Jackson GalaxyBook Review

I am an unabashed fan of Jackson Galaxy, as I am certain most of you know. So when I was asked if I wanted to review his new book, Total Cat Mojo, I immediately said, “Yes, please.”n

If your cat had come with a instruction manual, this book would be it. As the book’s subtitle (The Ultimate Guide to Life with Your Cat) suggests, Total Cat Mojo is a must read reference book for all cat guardians and anyone thinking of adopting for the first time.

Let’s start with defining Cat Mojo. According to Galaxy mojo is: “the confidence that cats exhibit when they are at ease in their environment an in touch with their natural instincts—to hunt, catch, kill, eat, groom, and sleep.”

Galaxy says in the book’s introduction, “My primary occupation through these years actually has not been about solving cat issues but about teaching you how to find, cultivate, and hold onto mojo.”

Galaxy’s packed everything he has learned since his first days working at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley (Colorado) in the early nineties to being the star of the Animal Planet television program, My Cat from Hell, into this 365-page book.

He starts by describing what he calls “The Raw Cat.” The Raw Cat is another cat (little changed from ancient times) living inside your cat. This “ancestral twin” of your cat “sends constant transmissions to your companion about the urgency of securing territory, hunting, killing, eating, and staying ever alert, because just as cats hunt, they are also being hunted.” It is in understanding your cat’s instinctual behaviors that you will be able to eliminate the actions that are keeping your cat from attaining total cat mojo.

Territorial issues, litter box problems, aggression, anxiety, new pet/family member introductions…absolutely any question you might have with regard to these and other issues, are addressed in Total Cat Mojo. If you need help with your cat, you cannot find a better authority than Jackson Galaxy. He gives you all the tools you’ll need to have a happy and confident cat…filled with mojo!

Both an extensive table of contents and index will let you easily find the issues with which you might need help. Regardless, I suggest you read the entire book before putting it on the shelf as your go-to cat reference handbook.

Total Cat Mojo was written with Mikel Delgado, co-owner of Feline Minds, a San Francisco Bay area based cat behavior consulting business. It also is sprinkled throughout with delightful illustrations by Bobby Rock.

MEOWVOLOUS BIRTHDAY GIFTS

Birthday Gifts

I am the luckiest lady kitty in the world. I have the most wonderful and thoughtful boyfriend. Oh yes, and he is handsome too.

The day before Astrid’s and my birthday, we received a box addressed to Kitties Blue. I immediately recognized the return address; though, the name was omitted. I was anxious to open it, but Mom made us wait. It was worth it. Charles’ talented mom, Inge, made some of the gifts. There was something for me, Astrid, Mau and Mom, as well as some treats and toys to share.

Here are some photos. The first two are of me admiring my new star blanket, in my favorite colors, while Cooper Murphy looks on. Isn’t it totally gorgeous?

Lisbeth checks out birthday gift from Charles.

Astrid got her very own birthday gift as well—an owl kicker with a feathered tail. Here she is checking it out.

This next photo is of Mau in his new hat. It has bakery confections on top, including a cupcake with a cherry on top. He was not really happy wearing it, but Mom says he better get used to it. She thinks he looks adorable.

Mom’s gift was a really cute dishtowel.

Giveaway Winners

I also get to announce the winner of Astrid’s and my birthday giveaway as well as the winner of the giveaway for the book, The Book of the Cat: Cats in Art. That winner, selected by Random.org, is Stephanie B.

The winner of BlogPaws swag and The Cat on My Head goodies from our birthday giveaway is our friend, Annabelle, from Manx MNews. She too was selected by Random.org.

Mom will be contacting each of you for your mailing address.

That’s all I have to say, except to send a final thank you to Charles and Mom Inge as well as all my love to Charles.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lisbeth
