Doozy of A Snoozy

TWO TABBIES SNOOZY ART

Sawyer adores his big brother, Cooper Murphy. He has been Cooper’s shadow since he arrived; though, he is starting to assert his independence a bit more. Of course, as I say that, he just arrived on the bed and took up a very similar position to the one in the above photo.

Caturday Art

Here’s the original photo of the boys.

As you can see, I went back to Painnt again this week to create my art. The app has so many options for editing each filter, and it completes the art quickly. This week I selected the Amsterdam filter. That added the swirly effect and turned the original photo black and white. I wanted color so elected “original” in the Color Composition section. Then to bump up the color even more, I selected “sunny” from the Coloring section. The border is from piZap.

We are joining the gorgeous Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty for her Caturday Art blog hop. If you haven’t tried creating art or entering this hop, what are you waiting for? Oodles of free photo-editing apps are available for you to use and explore your creativity. If you’d like to join in the fun or just enjoy the creations of others, click on Athena’s badge.

Sunday Selfies Blog Hop

Every week for us, selfies follow art. If this whole selfies folderol was fair, Lisbeth would have to do the selfie tomorrow, as she was the bad cat this week. But, no… For some reason she was given a pass. Misty May will be here as your host tomorrow. Looking forward to having lots of you join us.

SAWYER’S DISCOVERY

Doozy of a Snoozy

Like every Kitties Blue cat before him, Sawyer has discovered the antique dough bowl. For whatever reason this is a favorite snoozing, bathing, looking out the window spot and has been featured in previous posts. We gave up years ago trying to reclaim the bowl for use by Dad Tom, the bread baker. And for a very long time we have been adding something comfy to snooze upon.

Sawyer takes over cat (dough) bowl.

Kitties who have outgrown the dough/cat bowl continue to stuff themselves in for a nap. It even has been occupied my Mauricio and Astrid together…now that was a bowlful. As you can see, Sawyer has not reached the point where he is overflowing. But he has definitely spread out atop of one of Mom Ellen’s (15 And Meowing) cat mats.

To see original cat, Skooter, as well as some others in the bowl, click here to go to the 2012 post, “The Cat Bowl.”

Cooper Murphy/Misty May Update

Under protest, Cooper Murphy had another visit with Dr. Neel yesterday. He does have a fever; though, not as high as the 105 he had on January 5. It was 103 this time. The conjunctiva in both eyes are infected this time. Staining showed no additional problems. He’s also sneezing this time. He got another anti-inflammatory injection and will be on oral meds and the teramyacin eye ointment again for another ten days.

We also discovered that the little giant stinker was playing fast and loose with the scale last time. He weighed in today at 18 1/2 pounds. That’s two more than his last visit and more what we expected then.

Misty May’s eye is greatly improved. She will remain on the ointment until she returns on Friday for a recheck of the ulcer.

Thanks for all the purrs, prayers and POTP you have been sending. With any luck, this will be the final chapter for the eye “icks.”

MINI RANT ON TUXIE TUESDAY

Tuxie Tuesday Doozy of a Snoozy

Since Sawyer came to live with us and Lily Olivia got her wings, the dynamic around our house is totally different. We are all a bit confused as to our roles. Misty May is trying to assert herself and take over Lily Olivia’s position as Commander of Everything and Everyone. Unlike Lily, however, she is needy, as opposed to demanding. The humans consider needy to be an annoying trait, and the remainder of us must agree. This isn’t to say that most of us don’t love Misty May. We just don’t think she is leadership material. After all, she is a bully. We understand many powerful people are bullies, but that will not be tolerated in our coterie of cats.

Misty May has been doing her best to curry favor with some of us to gain our support, especially the other tuxie female in the house, Lisbeth.

Tuxie Tuesday

As you can see, she has taken Lisbeth under her wing paw, even when they are sleeping. We suggest that Lisbeth not get too cozy. We know this camaraderie will not last if Misty May takes over as Top Cat.

Misty May and Mau are the oldest of this rag-tag bunch, so one of them probably is next in line for the job. We suspect mild-mannered Mau will garner most of the votes. He is a good candidate, as he has learned many important rules with regard to leadership as an Order of the Arrowhead, Sabertooth Cat Scout.

Misty May is not suited to ascend to the throne (Mom’s lap) as she refuses to sit quietly in contemplation—a most important trait for all of those in power. Mau can get awfully wordy at times, but he does recognize the importance of a regal bearing while on the throne. MOUSES! Did we really say that?

The new hierarchy definitely has not been decided, and we suspect we can look forward—NOT—to a long campaign season. In the meantime most of us are keeping a low profile, except for Sawyer. He can’t help himself. He’s just a kitten and only understands three things—eat, sleep and play.

We’ll keep you posted as to how this all shakes out.

Speaking of Lily Olivia

We want to share with you the Angel vSquillion Lily Olivia we adopted. She joins the ranks of all the other Kitties Blue angels (except cat #1, Skooter) on our vSquillion page. If you’d like to visit, click on the The Felines tab at the top of the page and then the vSquillion dropdown.

Thanks for joining us today. We’ll see you tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday.

PLAY HARD…SLEEP HARD

Doozy of a Snoozy on Tabby Tuesday

We haven’t done a snoozy post in a while and so thought you might enjoy seeing the two youngsters having a snooze.

Doozy of a Snoozy with Sawyer and Cooper Murphy.

Cooper Murphy took the last of his medication Sunday night, and he seems to be close to 100 percent well. He and Sawyer are back to playing and wrestling. Both slept really soundly yesterday afternoon—Sawyer on the bed and Cooper Murphy on the catio after it warmed up above freezing. The above photo was taken Sunday night.

C.J. Update

Calista Jo’s eye is beginning to look a bit better, but she still has lots of medication and eye ointment to go before she can rejoin the family. Dad Tom has been spending lots of time in the living room with her while reading his book. We know she is lonely and feeling abandoned. We just cannot take a chance that one of her uninfected fursibs contracts this. Mom says that the vet bills are “eating” into our food, treat and litter budget. Pffft!

We’ll see you again right here tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday.

We hope that wherever you live, you are staying warm.

SUMMER IN THE CITY WITH KITTIES BLUE

Tuesday Doozy of a Snoozy: Summer Version

During these long, hot days of summer, we often cannot find anything better to do than snooze. We still love our Space Station and play with it everyday (see tomorrow’s Wordless Wednesday post for more on this). Other than that, running, jumping and playing do not interest us.

Since we haven’t shared a Tuesday Doozy of a Snoozy with you in a while, we decided to reveal some preferred summer napping spots and positions. As cats, however, we do tend to change our minds often with regard to what those favorites are. As our tagline says, “Cats are predictably unpredictable.” And that’s just how we like it.

Lily Olivia - summer position.

Misty May - summer

Astrid - summer

Cooper Murphy - summer

Calista Jo

Mau and C.M. - summer

Most of us don’t appear to have expired like Lily Olivia in photo #1 or be in a coma like Cooper Murphy in photo #3, nor are we all even snoozing. But, you all know, when those camera-clicking crazies come around, it’s not always easy to ignore them. You may also notice that Lisbeth and Giulietta are missing. Giulietta pretty much refuses to come out of her cat tree cubby unless it is breakfast, dinner or bed time. Lisbeth has been splitting her time between the catio and the very top platform of the dining room cat tree. Somehow she has been able to escape the paparazzi. MOUSES! We’d sure like to know her secret.

Anyhoo, we hope you enjoyed our summer snoozies. Do you have a favorite place to lounge and snooze on hot days in the summer or do you just plop down anywhere?

Since we snagged our post title from one of Mom’s favorite songs by the The Lovin’ Spoonful from the summer of 1966, we thought we’d share it with you. This version is from a live performance in 1986. (The video from YouTube is labeled incorrectly as Loving Spoonful.)

If we’re awake, we’ll see you all tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday.

DOOZY OF A SNOOZY, REVEAL AND WINNER

The Big Reveal

This week for our Caturday Art, we presented you with a psychedelic-like “artified” photo and challenged you to guess which kitty or kitties were pictured. Today we reveal the original (unaltered) photo and the winner of some BlogPaws Conference swag. To refresh your memory, here is the photo.

Kitties Blue reveal which kitties are hidden in this art.

We figured at least one of the kitties (there are two) would be easy to identify. That is Cooper Murphy’s striped leg to the left side of the photo. To our surprise seven of the 28 commenters identified both Cooper Murphy and the other kitty, Mauricio. Remembering that we’ve posted a couple of other photos of them touching or snuggled together most likely helped those of you who guessed correctly.

Here’s the original photo with four back legs and two tails.

The Reveal: Cooper Murphy & Mauricio

The Winner

So, who was the first to guess correctly? It was mom’s friend, Annie Morris, from McGuffy’s Reader. Many of you know her from the Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop. Mom has already packed up a box of BlogPaws swag for Annie and kitties, Grizelda, Chloe Jo, Maggie and George as well as a couple of things for woofies, Stella and Kenzie.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our little guessing game and congratulations to Annie.

SNUGGLE BUDDIES

Doozy of a Snoozy

In a previous post showing Mauricio and Cooper Murphy snuggling and touching paws, I asked if it was a Burgeoning Bromance or Accidental Encounter. Well a bromance it is not, but the boys are getting closer—at least while they are snoozing. And less ear and neck biting and smacky paws are happening. Before I snapped the following photos both Cooper and Mau took the opportunity to touch each other on the head a couple of times. The taps were tentative and light with no malice. Progress!

Snuggle Buddies

Snuggle Buddies

I did not add that mouse for cuter, more “squeeable” photos. It was already on the bed, and the boys ended up curling up around it.

Cooper rarely sleeps on our bed. If he does join us, it is usually only for an hour or two and then he retreats to his bedroom ham-mick. Some nights he doesn’t even come upstairs. Instead he sleeps on one of the ham-micks in the dining room. I really miss him on those nights, as I enjoy watching him sleep. He’s usually on his back with legs akimbo and just as cute as can be.

Feeling Puny

Mauricio is not feeling well. He did not eat his dinner Sunday night or last night and only a couple of bites of breakfast yesterday. I offered him some kibble and Temptations mid-day, but he turned them down. He’s been curled up in a ball most of the day with his head buried in his paws. He got really hissy when I picked him up and tried to hold him. I’ve checked him over as best I can and cannot find any external clues as to what is going on with him. Just as I am finishing up this post, he ate a few Temptations, but if he doesn’t eat his breakfast, I’ll be taking him to see Dr. Neel.

I know a trip to the vet will really make him extra grouchy. If you can say a few prayers and send some POTP that he’ll perk up, start eating and acting like himself, Mau, Dad Tom and I would be most grateful.

With many thanks.

NAP ATTACK: THEN AND NOW

Doozy of a Snoozy

All cats are good nappers. We see it everyday. We know it. When I ran across this old photo a few days ago, I knew I had to share it and compare it to a more recent one.

MacKenzie nap

This is not Cooper Murphy but MacKenzie, our former ginger tabby. That bed in front of the window was his favorite place to snooze. If awake, he could spy on the dogs and kitties that lived next door at the time. Mac got his wings in 2011. He had inoperable stomach cancer.

Fast forward to 2017 to another ginger tabby, who also enjoys a good nap.

Cooper Murphy nap

Cooper Murphy is not too particular about where he naps, just as long as it is somewhere on the catio during the day. At night he usually passes out on one of the ham-micks. Tonight he happens to be sprawled on his back on our bed—asleep and snoring!

Though MacKenzie enjoyed many of the things Cooper does, we did not have a catio when he was alive. Like Lily Olivia, Mauricio and Misty May, he was allowed outside during daylight hours. However, he was a momma’s boy through and through and never was too far from my side. If I worked in the garden, he was right there to help. If I was cooking, he was “tied to my apron strings.” He spent his last six months snuggled next to me in the recliner as I recuperated after breaking my leg.

On the other paw, Cooper mostly is a solitary guy, who does his own thing. I suspect that this difference comes from the fact that MacKenzie bonded with us when he was a kitten, and Cooper Murphy did not join the family until he was about 15 months old.

Cat guardians know that all cats are good nappers, but that each has his own unique purrsonality. In my opinion, that is what makes every kitty special!

NATIONAL PET DAY 2017

National Pet day 2017

We Kitties Blue are wondering what exactly is National Pet Day? We thought everyday was National Pet Day, or at the very least, National Cat Day. The resident authority on this type of thing claims we were well aware of this day. But as a reminder to both us and our readers, here’s what National Pet Day is all about, according to the NatonalPetDay.org website.

National Pet Day was founded in 2005 by Pet and Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige, to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives and to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters and rescues all around the globe.

Dogs and cats are the most popular pets, but lots of individuals have other types of pets, such as bunnies, ferrets, turtles, chickens, fish, snakes, hamsters and horses, just to name a few. And this day is for all pets no matter the species.

The National Pet Day website lists ten ways to celebrate National Pet Day. A few of those are:

  • Adopt a pet from your local shelter or rescue organization.
  • Volunteer at your local shelter or rescue.
  • Buy your pet a fun new toy….or two…or five. (Kitties Blue can really get behind this one.)
  • Donate food, litter, toys, blankets, other pet-related items or green papers to your local shelter or rescue.

For other suggestions, visit the National Pet Day website.

Kitties Blue have some suggestions not listed by the National Pet Day organization.

  • Spend extra time playing with your pet day.
  • Take the opportunity to give your pet a soothing brushing or massage.
  • Give your pet some of their favorite treats.

Do you have any special plans for National Pet Day? Kitties Blue have thought and thought and thought about how we’d like to spend our day. Then we took a vote.  The photo of Cooper Murphy represents our unanimous decision. (We may ask for a few extra treats as well!)

National Pet Day 2017

Whatever you decide to do today, we wish all our anipals a happy and love-filled National Pet Day and challenge all humans to do at least one nice thing for their pet or another animal.
