BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION FOR MAU & MISTY MAY

Birthday Wishes to Mau & Misty May

Yesterday Mauricio and Misty May celebrated their 14th birthday amid zero fanfare. We decided to postpone any celebrating until today. They will be receiving a new nip nanner from me and their dad. As Chris comes tomorrow to clean, the nip and treats also will be flowing. As Mau is our master baker, it’s difficult to surprise him and make anything yummy, but I snuck into his Cat Scouts Bake Shop last night and whipped up this cake for him and Misty May.

Please join us for some cake as well as catnip, champagne and nip ice cream.

Mau and Misty May are most grateful to Mau’s best friend and Best Man, Angel Sammy, and Teddy (aka Butter Bean) from Two Spoiled Cats for this beautiful and thoughtful card.

Mau also received a sweet note from the love of his life and wife, Allie (Friends Furever). His Wolverine patrol mates, Gracie and Anya, also sent Mau this Happy Birthday banner and cards. They are good friends and always so thoughtful.

Pirates Tomorrow

Tomorrow is one of the most celebrated days in the blogosphere: Talk Like a Pirate Day. Kitties Blue will be here dressed in their pirate garb and ready to celebrate with some grog and pillaging.

MEOWVOLOUS BIRTHDAY GIFTS

Birthday Gifts

I am the luckiest lady kitty in the world. I have the most wonderful and thoughtful boyfriend. Oh yes, and he is handsome too.

The day before Astrid’s and my birthday, we received a box addressed to Kitties Blue. I immediately recognized the return address; though, the name was omitted. I was anxious to open it, but Mom made us wait. It was worth it. Charles’ talented mom, Inge, made some of the gifts. There was something for me, Astrid, Mau and Mom, as well as some treats and toys to share.

Here are some photos. The first two are of me admiring my new star blanket, in my favorite colors, while Cooper Murphy looks on. Isn’t it totally gorgeous?

Astrid got her very own birthday gift as well—an owl kicker with a feathered tail. Here she is checking it out.

This next photo is of Mau in his new hat. It has bakery confections on top, including a cupcake with a cherry on top. He was not really happy wearing it, but Mom says he better get used to it. She thinks he looks adorable.

Mom’s gift was a really cute dishtowel.

Giveaway Winners

I also get to announce the winner of Astrid’s and my birthday giveaway as well as the winner of the giveaway for the book, The Book of the Cat: Cats in Art. That winner, selected by Random.org, is Stephanie B.

The winner of BlogPaws swag and The Cat on My Head goodies from our birthday giveaway is our friend, Annabelle, from Manx MNews. She too was selected by Random.org.

Mom will be contacting each of you for your mailing address.

That’s all I have to say, except to send a final thank you to Charles and Mom Inge as well as all my love to Charles.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lisbeth

THANK YOU, FILL-INS & GIVEAWAYS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #67

It’s Friday again. Funny how that continues to happen each week. The only way I can keep track of what day of the week we are on is by which post we have to write. Even then I occasionally get messed up. Anyhoo, if it is Friday, it must be time for fill-ins. Each week, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader) and Ellen (15 And Meowing) each select two sentences for us to complete.

Kitties Bue let me complete all of them this week, as they have never been to school, like the catio better than any room in the house, and have never visited any place in our area but the vet, and they surely wouldn’t recommend that to anyone.

This is a blog hop. To enter click on the fill-ins badge. You will be whisked away to Annie’s blog, where you can enter the link to your post.

My completions, as they are each week, are in teal italics.

1. If someone were visiting my area, I would recommend a visit to the Mill Mountain Star. You can read more about it on our posts, Sharkie & Blue Visit the Star and Come Fly with Me for Sammy.

Mill Mountain Star, Roanoke, VA.

2. My favorite room in my home is the kitchen. After waiting more than 25 years, we re-invented it about six years ago. It is where we all spend the most time.

3. Back-to-school time makes me think of how I always wanted to wear new school clothes for the first day of school, but it was always too hot. I would end up roasting in a wool skirt and sweater and regret my decision.

4. My favourite year of school was probably third grade, as that is when I discovered I liked to write. I have been doing it ever since.

Thank You from Astrid & Lisbeth

Astrid and Lisbeth would like to thank everyone who came by yesterday to wish them a happy birthday. They especially want to thank Lisbeth’s boyfriend Charles for the beautiful e-cards he sent (a separate one for each girl). He also sent a box of goodies. The girls will share about that tomorrow.

They received another gorgeous card as well. This one is from one of the Three Gingersnaps, Teddy (aka Butter Bean). It features their favorite colors.

Still Time to Enter our Two Giveaways

In honor of their birthday, Astrid and Lisbeth are having a giveaway to include some items of swag from the BlogPaws Conference as well as some The Cat on My Head goodies. If you’d like an opportunity to win this giveaway, please leave a comment on the girls’ birthday post, Astrid & Lisbeth Are Birthday Girls, prior to 5 p.m. ET on Monday, August 21. The winner will be selected using Random.org and announced the following day.

This giveaway also will end on Monday at the same time as the birthday giveaway. This giveaway is open to all readers worldwide. This winner also will be selected using Random.org and announced the following day.

See everyone again tomorrow for Caturday Art.

ASTRID & LISBETH ARE BIRTHDAY GIRLS

Birthday Girls

Where does the time go? Astrid and Lisbeth were just kittens when this blog began. Though Astrid still looks like a kitten (compared to some of the bruisers among Kitties Blue) and can scream like a two-year-old, they are all grown up! Today, they celebrate their sixth birthday. The birthday card from me shows them then and now.

Birthday Cad for Astrid and Lisbeth.

Of course, our resident baker, Mauricio, has whipped up a birthday confection for his sisters. Please join us for a piece of cake in celebration.

The girls received this lovely birthday card from the always thoughtful and kind, Pipo, Angel Minko, Mr. Jack Freckles and Mom Ingrid. Both girls send kitty kisses of appreciation to each of them.

As this is Thoroughly Poetic Thursday, I promised to write them a poem.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Birthday Poem for Astrid & Lisbeth

Nearly six years have come and gone,
Since you became part of Kitties Blue.
Two kittens so devoted to each other,
Side-by-side and stuck like glue.

To see you together now is a treat.
You’ve gone your separate ways—
Personalities divergent and unique.
Never getting together to snuggle or play.

When we see you near each other,
Lounging and snoozing on the cat tree,
We wonder if we are dreaming
Or if sisters again you will decide to be.

No matter what the future brings you,
We pledge our care and love forever.
As members of the Kitties Blue clan,
You are two of our special treasures.

© Janet Buickerood Blue 08/16/2003

Our poem is part of Angel Sammy and Teddy’s Thoroughly Poetic Thursday. Todays prompt letter is “J” and prompt words are 1) Juicy, 2) Jump, 3) Jungle and 4) Jealous. As you can see, we went our own way this week; though, writing about Astrid and Lisbeth, I could probably have selected jealous.

If you’d like to see what Sammy selected to write about this week as well as find links to other poems, click on his badge.

Thankful Thursday

For Dad Tom and I, we are grateful that we decided to adopt both Lisbeth and Astrid. I had seen Astrid on PetFinder. We met Lisbeth when we went to meet Astrid in her foster home. Most of you know that Astrid and her brother were abandoned kittens who were integrated with Lisbeth and her littermates. That does explain a lot about their differences. I know both girls are happy to have a forever home with lots of love, care, toys, treats and a catio.

With this, we are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. To participate, click on Brian’s badge.

Giveaways

Yes, you read that right! We currently have a giveaway in progress for the gorgeous art book, The Book of The Cat: Cats in Art, by Angus Hyland and Caroline Roberts. For an opportunity to win a copy of The Book of the Cat, please leave a comment on our review post by clicking here prior to 5 p.m. ET on Monday, August 21. The giveaway is open to all readers worldwide. The winner will be selected using Random.org and announced the following day.

Additionally, Astrid and Lisbeth asked if they could giveaway a few more items of swag from the BlogPaws Conference as well as some The Cat on My Head goodies. Of course, I could not turn them down on their birthday. If you’d like an opportunity to win this giveaway, please leave a comment on this post. We will end this giveaway at the same time as the other (5 p.m. ET on Monday, August 21). This winner also will be selected using Random.org and announced the following day.

Black Cat Appreciation Day

Today we give a shout out to all those gorgeous black kitties, especially those waiting in shelters for adoption. Black cats are not unlucky! They are beautiful creatures with all the same wonderful qualities of any cat of any other color. My very first heart cat was Thelma, an all-black, sweet and gentle cat. So, if you are thinking about adopting, please consider a black kitty. You won’t be sorry!

BIRTHDAY PARTY & SPACE STATION GIVEAWAY

Thankful Thursday

We are beginning our Thursday post with the thankful part this week, as the poetic part includes not only a birthday party but a giveaway as well.

We were shocked this week to not only be tied for First Commenter on Angel Sammy and Teddy’s (TwoSpoiledCats) Tuesday Teaser, but we also were the first to guess the location (Pike’s Peak, Colorado) of the Teaser correctly. We won these two terrific badges.

With the thankful part of the post completed, we are joining Brian’s Home for their Thankful Thursday blog hop. You can join as well by clicking on their badge.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

This week’s poem is a belated birthday poem for C.J. And, how fitting, today’s prompt letter is, “B.”

Sometimes Our Humans Forget
A Belated Birthday Poem for C.J.

Sometimes it’s hard to keep things straight
When a person is dealing with a family of eight.
At my age, I’m lucky to remember their names,
Much less the days on which they came.
But I am so sorry for sweet Calista Josette
For possibly my biggest, embarrassing blunder yet.
As friends were sending her best birthday wishes,
I didn’t for a minute become suspicious.
When a person’s brain gets filled to the brim,
The results often can be quite grim.
Today we are setting things right with a party;
Though, with it we’ve been terribly tardy.
Our master baker, Mau, has provided the cake,
And there are noms a plenty, so grab a plate.
Calista Jo, our hearts are full of love for you,
So let’s party and give away a Space Station too.
I can’t promise I won’t forget again next year.
Just remember you’re loved by me and the whole blogosphere!

Birthday Party Time

So let’s get this party started with some delicious drinks and foodables.

C.J.'s birthday party: noms.

We have bacon (of course), sushi and sashimi, real live dead shrimps, tuna and anchovy pizza, greens for our vegetarian friends and meaty bones for our woofie friends.

C.J.'s birthday party: drinks.

You may choose from a variety of nip beers, nip iced teas, mixed drinks or lemonade.

Let’s not forget the cake. Mauricio tried hard to airbrush the cat to look like dilute tortie C.J., and I applaud him for his efforts.

C.J.'s birthday cake made by Mau.

And please take a piece of catnip pizza and a catnip birdy as party favors.

In celebration of Calista Jo’s birthday, we’ve been given the okay to give away a Petmate® Jackson Galaxy® Space Station cat toy.

We reviewed the toy on our Tuesday post, which you can read at Space Station: Best Toy Ever. For the opportunity to win one of these super fun toys, you must leave a comment on this post prior to Monday, June 26, at 5 p.m. ET. Even if you left a comment on the review post, you must leave one here for a chance to win. The winner will be determined using Random.org and announced the following day. Good luck to all.

Now …let’s get back to that party!

JUST HANGIN’ OUT

Wordless Wednesday – Astrid Hangin’ Out

Astrid, is hangin' out in the little hammock of the QuickSnap Replaceable Cat Scratcher by Feline Innovations.

Though this post is supposed to be wordless, the petretary has asked if she may write a few words. I would have refused out right, but as it is an apology to Calista Jo, I have given her permission to infringe on my post.

Purrs and paw-pats, Astrid

Thank you, Astrid. Once again, it seems as if I have lost any opportunity of receiving The Cat Mom of the Year Award. I am here to apologize to Calista Jo for missing her fifth birthday yesterday. I love her dearly and pray I didn’t hurt her feelings. At least Calista and all the kitties received a new toy for their amusement. By way of apology to C.J., I will write her a special belated birthday poem for Thoroughly Poetic Thursday tomorrow and have a blog party for her. Everyone is invited to join in the merriment. On behalf of C.J., I’d like to thank everyone who wished her a Happy Birthday yesterday. Your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated.

Warm regards, Mom Janet

FRIENDLY FILL-INS FROM BLOGPAWS CONFERENCE

2. I have purchased many things on Ebay, including a replacement wedding ring for Tom after he lost his original.

3. I think the BlogPaws Conference rocks! Here are a few photos from today.

GIULIETTA’S BIRTHDAY SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #136

After giving me a nice birthday brushing yesterday, Mom asked me to take a selfie for today. As most of you know, I do not excel at photography. This time, I tried Mom’s laptop. After pushing the button, the computer countsdown and then snaps the photo. Even if I was looking directly at the screen, by the time the countdown completed I always looked away or down except for one time. That is the photo I have used for my selfie. Mom fancied it up for me so you might not notice how fuzzy I look.

Giulietta's birthday Sunday Selfie

I think I look away or down in photos so you won’t notice the freckle in my right eye. I think it may have gotten bigger.

My angel sisfur and I received another birthday card after we posted yesterday. It’s from Pipo, Minko and Petretary Ingrid (Meezer’s Mews and Freckles’ Woofs). They always make the most beautiful cards. I am so grateful for their kindness and thoughtfulness and send thanks on behalf of Fiona and myself.

HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY TO GIULIETTA & ANGEL FIONA

Caturday Art

Our beautiful girls celebrate their birthdays today, one at home and one at the Bridge. Just typing this and creating the art for today hurts my heart so much. Never did I dream when I brought these teeny bundles home that one would leave us at such a young age. Fiona is as beloved today as she was the day I adopted her. I can still see her face on that day in my mind’s eye. As I was getting ready to leave with Giulietta, Fiona gave me a pleading look to which I had to respond. I feel so fortunate that I adopted this special cat and that she was in our lives for six-and-a-half years.

I hope you enjoy the birthday art I created from one of Giulietta’s and Fiona’s first photos.

Screen Shot 2017-03-17 at 10.07.02 PM

Today’s art was created by adding the Rainbow filter in Dreamscope, followed by a weave overlay and the bunting and bow using PicMonkey. The border was added with Picasa.

The girls received a beautiful card from Teddy and Angel Sammy from Two Spoiled Cats. Giulietta sends her thanks on behalf of herself and Angel Fiona. We are quite certain that Sammy is helping Fiona celebrate today.

Cat4-001We’ll be back tomorrow with our blog hop. I’ll see if I can get Giulietta to snap a birthday selfie to share. Participation was a bit “off” last week, so we sure hope to see lots of you tomorrow.

Until then, Dad Tom and I want to take this opportunity to say, “Happy Birthday,” to our beautiful girls.

OUR OLD HOME & FILL-INS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #45

FriendlyFillIns

I am again participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins co-hosted by Ellen (15 And Meowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). Each week they create statements for us to complete. Ellen selects the first two and Annie the second two. This is a blog hop. You can link your Fill-In post on Annie’s blog.

My completions are in teal italics.

1. The oldest item in my home is my home and all the original interior fixtures, floors, walls, doors, etc. The house was built in 1912. We have lived in it since 1984. (The kitties thought I should say their dad, but we have inherited many items from his dad that are older than Dad Tom.)

home built in 1912

2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is are the glass bottles we use for chilled water.

3. My family heritage is the crystal my dad and stepmom purchased when they married in 1968 and my grandmother’s diaries and photo albums.

4. My favourite family tradition is was celebrating my grandfather’s Christmas Eve birthday. We have no current family traditions, except sending out our Winter Holiday newsletter.

The fill-ins didn’t lend themselves to including many photos, and I did not feel like digging through the aforementioned albums to find a photo of Grandpa Herman on his birthday. You can see a photo of me (as a toddler) and my grandpa by clicking here.

Yesterday’s Post

I had a brain cramp Wednesday night when I went to bed and forgot to schedule yesterday’s post. Consequently, it didn’t post until 10 a.m. ET. I know many of you visit in the early morning hours so probably missed it. Cooper Murphy wrote a cute poem, and I am asking on his behalf that you check it out. You can click on the link below this post. Thank you.

Special Caturday Art

As I always do, I will be participating in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. Caturday will be Giulietta’s and Angel Fiona’s seventh birthdays. In celebration, I will be creating art from two of their “baby” photos. I know I am prejudiced, but in my opinion, they were two of the cutest kittens ever and definitely worthy of a squeee or two. Hope you’ll come by and visit, as we will have a small party.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY
