Sparks
Though our host, Annie (McGuffy’s Reader), of the Sparks Blog Hop is taking a much deserved break from blogging, I have become accustomed to posting a Spark on Monday. I will continue to do so unless I have another post that should take precedent. And I will check with Annie to see if she would like to transfer the hop here until she begins posting again. I so look forward to these Sparks at the beginning of each new week, and I know many of you do as well.
Dad Tom took this photo in our front yard a few days ago.
The author of today’s quote, Ashley Smith, was a troubled teen. She was born on January 29, 1988, in New Brunswick, Canada. Adopted at the age of five days, she had a normal childhood. However, between the ages of 13 to 14, her parents observed behavioral changes. She was in and out of institutions until she died by self-inflicted strangulation on October 19, 2007 while under suicide watch. At the time, she was in the custody of Grand Valley Institution for Women, a women’s federal prison in Kitchener, Ontario. You can read more about Smith here.
I would normally be joining the Awww Mondays blog hop at Comedy-Plus, but this photo and post don’t quite fit in. Kitties Blue will join that hop again next week.
Your garden is so joyously proclaiming the verdant springtime!
Its just so sad that that young girl had such a troubled life. I heard about her, and my sister who is now retired from being a correctional officer had much to say/think about this life, so wasted.
Beautiful flowers & quote. It’s sad that some people, especially those who are young, never find enough happiness to feel that life is worth living.
Great Spark. Yes, I knew about Ashley. Her story is sad.
Nellie will keep doing her Spark too! If you do the Link Up we would be ever so happy! I LOVE being able to click and see them all from one location. I really enjoy them and they are a great way to start my week.

This is such a true and beautiful statement. We really must appreciate those little things, while also reaching for our dreams. The author of this quote was so wise, and it’s sad that she passed so tragically.
I did not think to do Sparks this week, and now I am regretting it. I will certainly do one next week, though. Thank you for sharing this sentiment with us!
Such a lovely photo. Your yard is beautiful.
Beautiful photo and spark but such a tragic story about the author. We never know what’s going on in someone else’s life.
That is such a great quote and is one thing I like to do is to see all the details. Such a sad story about that young lady.
Your garden looks beautiful and peaceful. That is a very sad story about the girl.
What a beautiful photo and beautiful words. We are sad that she wasn’t able to find the help to help her find happiness and the strength to continue on.

Mommy wants to sit in your garden and sip her morning coffee; we want to join her for bird watching.
That’s a beautiful picture…and a lovely quote. It’s so sad that the author’s life came to such a tragic end.
Oh what a sad story. There are many like this one too. I love the quote. Some folks aren’t capable of seeing the precious little things.
Have a fabulous day filled with Sparks. Scritches to the kitties. ♥
Wow….your photo is fabulous!! That’s a great Sparks post. So sad that the writer had such a terrible life.
The Florida Furkids with bazillion smoochies and tons of love to Mau from Allie
That’s wonderful and such a beautiful photo!
Beautiful photo and words to accompany it. Ashley Smith wrote lovely words about life but it’s very sad she wasn’t able to find that joy in her own life which ended so soon. Thanks for sharing your SPARK today!
