SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Every Thursday, our dear friends, Teddy and Angel Sammy give us the opportunity to interpret a photo through poetry. This week’s photo is one of those that brings about an involuntary, “awww” response, especially from us kitty lovers. Today I have two poems for you. I borrowed the title for the first one from a popular song.

Simply Irresistible

Every cat I see makes me want another—
The same yet so different in every way
Breeds, coats and colors…none is like the other.

Diverse personalities and character quirks,
Each is special and different as night and day.
Some meow, while some growl, hiss or chirrup.

Some kitties are docile and like to snooze.
Others like to romp, zoom and play
And their caregivers amuse.

These bathing kittens offer no exception.
I’d bring them home without delay.
Though, Kitties Blue would not give a good reception.

I’d still take my chances with this adorable pair
And pray I wouldn’t start a bloody melee.
Maybe ours would ignore them and just wouldn’t care.

I know Dad Tom would not let this occur,
Saying, “We have as many kitties as we can bear.”
But I’m sorry…kitty love has no cure.

I definitely feel this is a poem that suffers from abandonment and needs a better ending or another stanza. I was having computer problems while trying to finish it and became too distracted to give it the attention it deserved. If I have the opportunity to revisit it, I will share it again.

Another Attempt

The second poem is an attempt at a form of poetry called Cinquain. It is a short, usually unrhymed poem consisting of twenty-two syllables distributed as 2, 4, 6, 8, 2, in five lines. It was developed by the Imagist poet, Adelaide Crapsey. Mine is untitled, but also is in reference to the photograph.

Two Spoiled CatsIn this format, line five is often a synonym for the noun in line one, as it is here.

If you haven’t tried you hand at poetry yet but think you might enjoy it, the website, Shadow Poetry, might help you get started.

As I remind you each week, Angel Sammy’s poem is not to be missed. It is always exceptional. By clicking on his badge, you can read his poem and find links to other poems among the comments.

Thankful Thursday

We always double up on Thursday and in addition to writing a poem, we let you know for what we are thankful.

As long as Sawyer remains seizure free, that will be our main thankful for the week. We are now at 19 days since his last one. That means it is time to have his phenobarbital level checked, which I am dreading. He becomes stressed at having to visit the vet, and stress causes seizures for him. His worst one to date was right after his last vet visit. With this on the horizon, any prayers, purrs or POTP you can spare would be appreciated.

We do have a couple of fun things for which we are grateful this week. The first is receiving the badge (on the left below) for submitting an absolutely disgusting recipe for Miss Dingleberry’s Recipe Contest at Two Spoiled Cats.

We also provided the Teaser photo this week, also for Two Spoiled Cats, and we got another cool badge (above right).

Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by Brian. To join, click on his badge below.
