Remember Me Thursday® Awareness Movement
We are joining Remember Me Thursday® and have lit a candle at RememberMeThursday.org for our sweet Swizzle again this year. Swizzle is the kitty we continue to sponsor at PAWS of Connecticut. She’s been waiting for more than two years for her new forever home. We pray daily that this sweet and beautiful senior kitty will find the loving human and home she deserves.
The Remember Me Thursday® global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.
Candles lit on this day (the fourth Thursday of September annually) across the world honor the pets who lose their lives without the opportunity to know the comforts of a loving home. These candles shine brightly on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption—just like beautiful Swizzle.
This being Sammy’s (onespoiledcat) Thoroughly Poetic Thursday and the prompt letter for the week being “O”, I have written a poem for orphan kitties.
OPT TO ADOPT ORPHAN CATS
Most of us were orphans at one time,
Whether roaming the streets or shelter confined.
But then one day our luck suddenly changed.
A human stopped in whose heart we would claim.
They took us home to keep us safe forever
With food, shelter and love as our caregiver.
So today, will you please a candle light
And pray for the orphans to not give up the fight,
As they wait and long for their special human
To find them and become their number one fan.
Please join me, other pet-lovers and advocates and animal welfare organizations around the world in lighting your own candle. Visit the link listed in the first paragraph to light your candle and learn more about Remember Me Thursday®. Or light your own candle at home. Just make certain it is either battery operated or in an area your pets cannot access.
Sometimes I wonder if all these kitties I took off the street and brought into my home are really happy since they don’t have the same freedom to roam as before. But then I stop and think that they quite possibly wouldn’t even be alive to enjoy anything. They never have to hunt for food. They know they are loved. I hope sweet Swizzle finds her forever home soon — along with all the others looking. Love your poem.
We love your poem and are baffled why Swizzle does not have a home. WE LOVE OUR SENIORS!!!!
We keep discovering more and more Remember Me Thursday posts, each one a wonder in its way, each one an appeal for love for shelter pets.
Each one a gem.
That is the perfect poem for Remember Me Thursday.
Beautiful poem and post. I pray Swizzle will get her forever home someday and all the kitties in need of one will get one too. XO
We’re participating today as well. This day is so important for shelter animals all over the world.
We both got lucky that that our humans picked us and took us out of shelter life, but there’s so so much more. Thus having a day to highlight this need is such an impawtant thing to do.
It is so hard to think about the kitties that don’t ever find a forever home. I will definitely keep Swizzle in my prayers. I hope that he finds his forever home soon. He’s a handsome guy!
It’s so sad to think about the number of cats who go their whole lives without knowing the joy, comfort, and love of having a family and home to call their own. We send love and purrs and prayers to them all, including sweet Swizzle.
Sampy sends 209487529034875 kisses to Astrid, and we all send lots of love.
Super poem for Remember Me Thursday. We can’t understand why Swizzle is still not in a forever home.

We can’t believe Swizzle has been waiting that long for a forever home. We purr for all those waiting in shelters and those that sadly never made it out. 🙁
A BEAUTIFUL poem that’s the perfect tribute to the feline/human bond. How true that they claim our hearts 🙂
We wish Swizzle could get a wonderful family and have lots of love from them.
Lovely post. Swizzle is adorable and deserves to be adopted soon. Poor baby to be locked in a cage day after day. I remember those days too – not fun.
What a beautiful post. With beautiful Swizzle and your beautiful poem (seriously, where’s your poetry book?!?), this is the perfect way to spread awareness on #RememberMeThursday. Thank you for sharing this with us!
I hope somebody gives Swizzle a good home.
Oh my – your poem today is so touching and dear……and we started our day by lighting the candle we light every year for Remember Me here at home. We hope today will be a lucky day for shelter animals and that they find their forever…..it’s so sad that so many languish in shelters for so long waiting – OR sadly are euthanized before they even have a chance for a home. It breaks our hearts…..but we do live in hope.
Hugs and love, Sam and Mom Pam
Beautiful post beautiful poem, will light a virtual candle today.
What a beautiful post and poem. It’s Thursday evening here in New Zealand now, but I will light a candle. I found a lovely poem today and would like to share it with you.
OVER THE RAINBOW BRIDGE poem
We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.
