Sunday Selfies: Week #62
We have a guest host today. He visited the catio a few days ago, and we kitties were fascinated with this unusual creature. First we want to share a couple of photos of Fiona and Lisbeth with the visitor.
Can you tell what this is? We’d never seen one before, so our humans had to tell us. And before he took his selfie, he and Lisbeth had quite a “game” of smacking paws—both getting in some pretty good smacks. Lisbeth, however, won the battle when she took him in her mouth and shook and shook and shook him. (Sorry, no photos of these two events. Our Dad had gone inside with the camera, and Mom was the only one there to witness these events.)
To Mom and Dad’s surprise, our guest survived, and Dad removed him from the catio. That’s when he snapped his selfie. We’d like to introduce you to this week’s guest host: Mr. Praying Mantis.
Bet y’all want to know what kind of unusual visitors we had last week. All Fur One and One Fur all introduced us to Eddy the Echidna. Austin from Catachresis shared a bedraggled bee. PepiSmartDog, who we can always rely on to share an unusual critter with us, posted a selfie of the Bush Stone Curlew, a ground dwelling bird unique to Australia. We can’t wait to see what other unusual critters join the hop this week.
Our weekly blog hop is open to all critters (and their humans should they desire to include themselves). You can enter your link below to join us and also grab the code to include the hop on your blog. If you would like to do this, please link back to The Cat on My Head and/or display our badge. Each week, Kitties Blue tries to visit as many of you as possible. Some weeks we get to all of your blogs and some weeks we don’t. It’s all dependent on the typist’s schedule for the week. Nonetheless, we appreciate everyone who supports and pawticipates in the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop. We consider each of you a good friend!

We had a couple of these on our deck this summer. We didn’t get to play with them since we don’t get to go outside. Still working on that catio idea!
Praying mantises are incredible creatures. I buy mantis eggs and put them around my garden in late spring. They eat all kinds of garden pests, so they’re wonderful to have around

Do you know a Praying Mantis try to eat our Hummingbirds. We were very upset when we found out why he was hanging out by the Hummingbird feeder. We made Mommy move the feeder right away.
I bet he was praying to get away from you 🙂 Nice selfies.
Uhm, we think mommy hit the wrong something on her phone and our comment got eaten! We wish Mr Mantis would visit us too!! Since we can’t hop and visit anyone today (it’s our grandpa’s funeral today) we won’t link up. Wishing you a happy Sunday
Mowzers, we kinda wish he’d visit us too!!

He must have done a lot of praying to keep from being “prey.”
Never seen a praying mantis live before. I bet he is fun to watch, but we wouldn’t be real interested like the kitties are.

What a great guest today! Mr. Praying Mantis…….We see them often here – and they are always welcome in Mom’s garden as they eat some of the pesky pests! Have a super Sunday!
Love, Sammy
Mr. Praying Mantis was very lucky to survive a good shaking by Lisbeth! It was very kind of him to give you his selfie after all that!
What an interesting guest host. M thinks she remembers seeing one of those when she lived in Florida a hundred billion years ago. He’s kinda creepy!
How awesome that you guys got a visit from one of those guys! We don’t see them very often here, and I have never seen one myself (I think Sparkle saw one once.. My human has occasionally bought pods but once they hatched they all disappeared.

I’m sure my cats would be fascinated by such a visitor – great shots!
