FAREWELL FIONA

Sunday Selfies: Week #121

The past few days have been very difficult with too many losses, sadness and tears. It is with a heavy heart that I add to it.

farewell Fiona

Rest In Peace

March 18, 2010 – December 1, 2016

My beautiful sisfur, Fiona, got her angel wings at 9:55 p.m. on Thursday, December 1. I held back telling everyone, as Kitties Blue didn’t want to spoil Sammy’s Come Fly With Me adventure or the tribute post we had planned for him.

After 11 months of treatment for CKD, Fiona was very frail and weak. She spent her last day snuggling and cuddling with Mom and Dad and went to her new life lying on Mom’s chest.

When we posted the poem for Fiona on Thursday, many of you surmised that her time with us was coming to an end and indeed it was. We just didn’t expect it to be that day. If you missed that poem, entitled, “You,” it is now on our sidebar.

I am not going to write anymore about my sisfur today. Mom has promised me that over the next several weeks (or months) I will be able to tell you stories about Fiona and share additional photos. However, I do have two photos I want to share here. The first photo is from Fiona’s and my Gotcha Day on May 8, 2010. The second photo was taken on her last day with us.

farewell Fiona

After so many days of sadness and turmoil, Mom has decided not to decorate for Christmas. We think it would cheer her up, but she says her heart just isn’t in it. We are all pretty perturbed. One of our favorite pastimes during the holidays is to watch the electric meter dial spin around, like a ballerina in a production of The Nutcracker, when the lights are turned on. She has, however, promised to hang all our stockings from the mantel so Santa Paws knows where to find us. And we will have a Christmas card. In fact, it features Fiona in a gorgeous graphic Nellie‘s mom, Barb, created for us. Mom promises to share that very soon.

I do want to share this lovely card/badge Sammy‘s mom, Pam, made. It was so kind and generous of her. We love it, and we know Fiona would as well.

farewell Fiona

We are super thankful that Sammy and Fiona could go to the Bridge together. It’s always nice to have a friend to hold your paw when you begin a new adventure.

Mom and Dad are so thankful they were able to take Fiona to the Blessing of the Animals a couple of weeks ago. And they, as well as all the Kitties Blue and I appreciate all the support, purrs and prayers and best wishes you have sent Fiona over the past 11 months. We know each and every one of those extended her life.

Cat4-001Now it’s time to hop. We hope lots and lots of you will join us. The link is below as is the code if you’d like to include the hop on your Sunday Selfies post. If you don’t post on Sundays, you are still welcome to join the hop. And it remains open each week through Thursday.

Thank you for stopping in today. We love all our blogging friends.

Purrs and paw-pats, Giulietta

Dear Janet,

I am SO sad to hear of the loss of your beloved Fiona. I feel like I’ve been on this journey with you.

I lost my beloved Sampson several years ago right after Christmas so I know how particularly difficult it is to say goodbye to a cherished pet during this time of year.

I know there is little that we can do to soften your sorrow, but it helps to know that there are people who love and care for you and Fiona. To honor the two of you, we are celebrating you as our Friend Of The Week at Create With Joy (Week 254) as a small token of our friendship and the joy the two of you (and the rest of your feline family) have brought into your lives.

Sending you much love, hugs and paw-kisses!

I just saw this and am so very sorry. I know only too well – I lost three cats in December – Joey in 2012, Yoko in 2013 and Georgie in 2015. I did put a tree up all those years even tho my heart wasn’t in it. In 2013 it was for Yoko because I knew she would be leaving us soon and she always loved the tree. She would sit on a chair next to it just staring a the lit tree for so long. My heart goes out to you in your loss of Fiona. She was not with you long enough. Sending you love and healing Reiki light.

We all share it with you, and I know you know we are all here lifting you with prayers and the kittens with purrs. At times like these, I know words are of little comfort for how could they? This is what is felt to the debts of ones core. The time is never enough but Fiona’s was more limited but I always believe the amount of Grief is commensurate to the amount of love, and by that I can see she was deeply deeply loved. She will be as deeply missed but she is with so many who have gone before and I hope you do believe as I do that she will be there waiting for you. ((HUGS))

Oh no, I am so sorry. She was only 6 years old, but you made the most of the time you had with her. There’s still time to think about putting up a few decorations, though you probably don’t want to face that right now.

Sending loves and hugs.

The pain of losing sweet Fiona is so overwhelming but you know that she is young and healthy and free of HER pain now. Fiona put up a great fight and we know she didn’t want to go but knew it was time. We’re sending soft, healing purrs and prayers to you as you go through this difficult time. Allie was glad to see the blanket she gave Mau gave Fiona some comfort. We hope you DO celebrate Christmas and know that Fiona will be there watching you and purring with you.

Janet, Tom, and all the Kitties Blue, our thoughts and hearts are with you. Although I wish it could, I know that nothing I say can heal the hurt you are feeling. Please never forget, though, that Fiona knew nothing but love and happiness in her life with you. Because of you, her time on this earth, although far too short, was the best and most wonderful a kitty could ever ask for. And she will never forget that. Fiona will be with you always.

Sammy December 4, 2016 at 4:43 am

Mom and I are so very sad that sweet little brave Fiona lost her battle. She really did fight hard to stay but in the end, it was just her time for a well earned rest. You know that she left first and when I got to the Bridge Friday morning, there she was…..smiling brightly, shining furs, big beautiful eyes and with a big “Welcome” which I so sorely needed. Behind her was Easy….and then more and more faces of those who had gone before. Fiona hopes you all will try to celebrate Christmas as she and her sisters and big brother Mau love the sparkle and glitter and boxes – she will be there with you all in spirit for Christmas AND forever and ever. We send you special hugs today and every day……

Hugs, Angel Sammy

Janet, we are so sad to hear that you had to say good-bye to your beloved Fiona. How fortunate that she was able to be with you in the last moments of her life ; to be held and surrounded by your love for her. We know she was well loved and well taken care of and that she had the best possible family and life here on earth a little kitty could ever ask for. Rest in peace, Fiona. You were loved by many. We are sending you our love and many hugs , Janet.

Oh, dear sweet tiny Fiona, we will miss your sweet face and spirit. You didn’t have a long life, but it was really a good one with your ‘real’ sisfur and all your other sisters and Mau, and your wonderful pawrents. Your life was full of love, given and received, right up till you slipped from your Mom’s loving arms right over that Bridge, paw in paw with sweet Handsome Sammy. Your People will be sad for a good long while, but we think all your siblings will pile on and bring them comfort, and *maybe* even convince your Mom to put out a Christmas thing or two. You were loved, beautiful girl, and you’ll be missed. XOXOXO from Spitty and His Human

I am so sorry, Janet. I was really hoping for a miracle for Fiona and you, all of you. It’s hard to believe her last day came so soon, and so young, to a condition we associate with old age. If she only had six years in this world I’m glad they were with you. Our purrs and sympathies.

My heart is filled with sadness at this news. I know Fiona and her family all fought the good fight to regain her health. I, too, lost a CKD cat back in 2009. Fiona, Sammy and Easy are all together now on the other side of the veil. Out of sight, but never far from mind and the love of their families.

Melissa & Mudpie December 4, 2016 at 12:06 am

I don’t even know what to say. I’m sorry seems insufficient. She was far too young for all she had to endure, but she was incredibly blessed to have you guide her through it. “It’s always nice to have a friend to hold your paw when you begin a new adventure.” That quote is beautiful beyond words. We are just devastated for you. {{{HUGS}}}
