Thoroughly Poetic Thursday
Today’s inspiration photo, selected by Teddy and angel Sammy’s Mom, Pam, is beautiful and contains so many things to spark one’s imagination. I originally had planned to write a Haiku, as the photo said more than a bunch of words ever could. But then, Astrid got her paws on the computer. Once she started typing, she just couldn’t stop. Her poem became more of a short story, and she has her paws crossed that you enjoy it.
Here’s the photo.
A Magical Place
Are my eyes deceiving me?
This wasn’t here a moment ago.
I think I must be dreaming.
That’s it! This has to be a dream.
But I don’t feel as if I’m asleep.
But how could I be on earth,
Yet see it so clearly in the distance?
Is someone playing a trick on me?
Do they want me to think I’m delusional?
No…this must be real.
My paw pads are burning from this hot sand.
And I am really, really thirsty.
In fact, I feel as if I might faint.
That wouldn’t happen if I were sleeping.
I wonder if those other cats are real?
Maybe they can help me figure this out.
“Here, kitty, kitty, kitty.”
Why didn’t that work? That’s how Mom
Calls kitties she doesn’t know.
“Hey you, cat, can you hear me?”
Why are they ignoring me?
Maybe I’m really here but invisible.
Is that even possible?
Was I sucked into some kind of black hole?
Let’s see, what’s the last thing I remember.
Breakfast…check. Watching squirrels…check.
Napping in the sun on the catio…check.
I’ve got it…sunstroke…I fried my brain!
Yikes…how can I fix that?
Do Mom and Dad know?
I wonder if they can straighten this out?
Hey, what was that?
Who’s smacking me on the head?
Astrid speaking out loud: “Cooper Murphy is that you?
You look fuzzy and your stripes are all wavy.
Are you really here, or am I imagining you?
What happened to me? Am I alive?
Why aren’t you answering me?”
Oh cwap…am I dead? I never thought of that.
Did Misty May finally whack me?”
Cooper Murphy speaking out loud: “You’re not dead, but you are a doofus.
You burrowed so far into Mom’s neck
That you passed out cold from lack of oxygen.
Maybe you should come up for air sometimes.”
Wowzers, that sure scared me. That place
Was nice, but I wouldn’t want to live there.
I didn’t smell any stinky goodness or treaties,
And those other cats were not friendly;
Though, they didn’t try to beat me up.
It was beautiful, and interesting, however,
And I wouldn’t mind visiting again,
If I could take my sweet husband, Sampy,
An umbrella for shade and a picnic basket
Filled with shrimpies, nip wine and Temptations.
Then that magical place would be purrfect!

Thankful Thursday
Kitties Blue always have oodles of things for which they are thankful. Astrid received some super cool gifts this week from husband Sampy (Kitty Cat Chronicles) for their anniversary. She’ll share those in another post.
This week the gang is most thankful for boxes. Of course, they are always thankful for boxes, but we’ve had a bonanza of them lately. Dad Tom and I are getting ready to begin a home addition and lots of goodies have been arriving, like tile and light fixtures. And everyone is enjoying trying them out, either inside or out.
Thankful Thursday is a blog hop hosted by everyone’s pal, Brian. To join in, post for what you are thankful, and then click on his badge and enter your post link on his blog.

You kitties are in box heaven!
What a fun poem…glad it was just a dream…too scary to be in the desert without water or anything else. Astrid you are at Home Sweet Home! The best place to be:)
That was a lovely story, Astrid.
Of course they are thankful for boxes. I don’t know whose more happy when we get a delivery. The humans because we got what we ordered or the cat because she got a new box to check out.
Truly loved that poem/story. Great imagination Astrid!!
Astrid, Did you have a bit too much nip? That’s a wild poem.
And wow, thanks for the opportunity to have customizable cat socks. They look like a lot of fun.
What a great poem, Astrid. We think with all that sand, that place would make an excellent litter box. 🙂 Just stay out of the water!
Hallucinations or heat stroke? Some treats will make you feel better, Astrid! And drink plenty of water too! I am thankful that my office has boxes galore to take home to the kitties to play with!
Now that was a purrfect poem, Astrid! At least your temporary lack of oxygen resulted in this masterpiece. Purrs!
We loved the poem that you shared. Astrid is one talented writer. What’s Thankful Thursday without boxes. They are thankful every day for any box that shows up at the house. Have a wonderful day.
That was fun 🙂 Great poem. And all my cats agree that boxes are to be thankful for. XO
Congratulations to the lucky winner of those cool socks. I still have my fingers crossed that I’ll be chosen.
I so enjoy your poems.
Being thankful for new boxes is the very best.
Have a purrfect Thankful Thursday. My best to your peeps. ♥
What a great story, Astrid! I’m glad Cooper Murphy woke you up so you could get some oxygen, though. And having lots of boxes to play in is always a good thing 🙂
Those were great poems and those boxes look wonderful! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
That was a super poem/story!! Allie says she wouldn’t want to be there because Mau isn’t there.
Those boxes look PAWSOME!!
The Florida Furkids with bazillion smoochies and tons of love to Mau
ps – Allie was annoyed that Mom kept using the Flashy Box when she was trying to get a snooze in the sink which is why she looked sad in yesterdays’ post.
That’s one good poem/story you put together. Certainly does fit that great photo! And the others sure look like they’re having fun with boxes while you’re writing away! 😀
Wow, that was quite a poem!
Oh my you kitties knocked it out of the park with this story-poem. I love it…..we thought the photo was super “dreamy” too – a perfect mirage which we figured would lead to some really interesting poems and this is proof that it did just that. Thanks for pawticipating each week and writing an “ALWAYS GREAT” poem. We’re THANKFUL for your friendship as always and thankful that yet another winner will be getting some of those very cool socks!
Hugs, Teddy
No stinky goodness? I don’t think I’d wanna be there either.
That was a beautiful poem/story/dream!
