PURRS, PRAYERS & POTP PLEASE

Wordy Wednesday

This is not the post we planned for today. We had intended to share some tie and bobble hat photos, which would have needed no words. But then Mom found out some dear friends of ours are unwell.

Esme and Mitalee from Critters in the Cottage are seriously in need of all the purrs, prayers and POTP each of you can send. The kitties and woofies at the Cottage are especially good friends of ours. LP (Mum Sophie) is a special friend to our mom. We know she is very sad and needs purrs, prayers and POTP as well.

Purrs, prayers and POTP for Mitalee.

Mitalee has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her stomach.

Purrs, prayers and POTP for Esme.

Esme has been diagnosed with a tumor on one of her lungs.

We all know how difficult and heartbreaking it is to have one kitty (or any furry family member) ill and suffering. To have two at the same time is devastating. This is what happened with our angels, Madison and MacKenzie. So we are aware of just how much Mum Sophie needs your support. Please let her know she and her sweet and lovely girls are in your thoughts and prayers.

Though this is not a true Wordless Wednesday post, we are entering our usual Wordless Wednesday blog hops in an attempt to let as many bloggers as possible know about this need.

We are sending our love, purrs, prayers and POTP to all the Critters in the Cottage and especially Mum Sophie, Esme and Mitalee. Thank you for doing the same.

Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

TREASURE TROVE OF PRIZES FROM BIONIC BASIL

Look at the Treasure We Won!

Before Mom and Dad left for the BlogPaws Conference, we received an e-mail from Bionic Basil with this message: “MEW WON SMOOCHIE’S EPICALLY EPIC GIVE-AWAY!” The giveaway was held in conjunction with Smoochie’s birthday. Though Basil’s mum, Cathrine, was going to be at the BlogPaws Conference, she’d be putting the package in the mail. It arrived while our humans were in Myrtle Beach. No matter how much we begged, Chris would not open the box for us. Waiting was agony, but the treasure in that box was well worth the wait. Take a look for yourselves.

Treasure won at Smoothie's birthday party.

Many of the items, like the Bobble hat, bracelet, hedgehog and strawberries are from Cathrine’s shop, Kit Knit Cos Play.

Where to find cool treasure like items in this post.

Mom is excited to have an opportunity to wear her bracelet and those adorable socks (front left). We can’t wait to get our claws into that hedgehog. Mom is also going to try to get the boys into the tie and some of girls in the hat before tomorrow. If that happens, we’ll share photos for Wordless Wednesday.

We are sending our sincere thanks to Smoochie and Mum Cathrine for this amazing treasure. They were so generous and thoughtful with these gifts. We are very lucky kitties, and we haven’t even seen the BlogPaws swag yet. We did notice, however, that Mom packed up a big bag of things today for Chris and her cat, Tinsley. But that’s okay. We like to share and will be giving away a lot more goodies.

As an aside, our mom wanted us to let Cathrine know how much she enjoyed meeting her and spending a bit of time together. Mum Cathrine is a really lovely person.

If you get the opportunity, visit Mum Cathrine’s shop on Etsy. She has lots of great treasures available.

REMEMBERING THOSE WHO SERVED & DIED

Memorial Day: Remembering

Memorial Day is an American holiday. It is observed on the last Monday of May and honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War. It took more than 100 years for Memorial Day to become an official federal holiday. That didn’t occur until 1971.

Remembering those killed at Normandy in World War II.

Dad Tom and the petretary visited Normandy (France) American Cemetery & Memorial in 2013.

Though Memorial Day was established to honor those who have given their lives in service to our country, we asked Mom if we could honor her father as well as Dad Tom’s. They both served in Word War II and returned home at the conclusion of the war. Mom’s dad was in the U.S. Army. Dad’s father was in the U.S. Navy.

Remembering Mom's dad.

Remembering Dad's dad.

Harriet and E.M. Blue – Washington D.C. – 1945

Our prayers today are with all the families who have lost friends and loved ones in service to the USA. And we applaud all those who have served and are currently serving in our military.

p.s. We had planned to share photos of the all the goodies we received from Bionic Basil as well. But we decided not to dilute this post. We will share that with you tomorrow.

MAU’S FILM STAR SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: Week #146

Mauricio fancies himself a star of the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop.

I used the same method Giulietta used for her selfie yesterday. While sitting on Mom’s lap, I snapped my photo with the camera on her laptop. I cut off one of my ears, but overall, I think I did a fairly good job. The frame Mom selected this week is purrfect. I fancy myself a bit of a Clark Gable type and think I would make a great movie star. What do you think?

I certainly hope Allie likes it!

Remembering Snowball

Today, however, is not all about me. Kitties Blue and I are dedicating this Sunday Selfies post to the memory of the beautiful Snowball from 15 And Meowing. Snowball received her angel wings two days ago right after returning home from a vet visit. She’d been in ill health for about ten days. So many friends have run to the Bridge lately. That makes our hearts hurt. We are certain Snowball had a huge welcoming party, which included our sisfur, Fiona. Snowball is the real star of today’s post.

Mom Pam, Teddy and angel Sammy (TwoSpoiledCats) made this lovely memorial badge for Snowball.

The beautiful new angel, Snowball, is the true star today.

If you have not had the opportunity to visit Mom Ellen and Snowball’s fursibs, please stop by their blog and leave your condolences. I know how much your kind words will mean to them.

This is our Sunday Selfies blog hop, and it would sure put a big smile on all our faces if you’d join in the fun and invite your friends as well. If you are a first-timer, all anipals are welcome regardless of species. We absolutely love making new friends. If you don’t normally post on Sundays, that is not a problem. The hop remains open through Thursday.

The link to add your selfie to the hop is below. You will also find a code below that you can use to add the hop to your post if you’d like. If you could also include our badge and/or a link back to The Cat on My Head, all the Kitties Blue and Mom will be happy campers. Well, maybe not campers. If you read Friday’s post, you know our Mom hates camping.

We normally don’t post on Mondays, but we will be back tomorrow to wish all Americans a Happy Memorial Day and to send out a special thank you for a prize package we recently won from our pal, Bionic Basil. Until then…

Ciao and meow, Mau

MY HIJACKED SELFIE

Caturday Art: Selfie Hijacked

I am totally a daddy’s girl, but when Dad Tom is away, Mom’s lap will do in a pinch. That’s where I was snuggled yesterday morning when I decided to take a selfie. When she’s on the computer, it is easy to stick out a paw and click on the camera. I thought I was doing all my fursibs a favor as well as giving my fans a nice photo of myself. I don’t do that very often.

The next thing I knew, Mom (can you hear the derision in my voice?) was tarting up my photo and turning it into art for Athena’s Caturday Art blog hop. What the meow was she thinking? I like to be artified, and she has made some very nice art using my image. But this was MY selfie, where everyone could admire my natural beauty. MOUSES!

I’ll let you all be the judge on which photo you like better. Here is the natural me…well, almost. Mom removed the freckle from my right eye.

Giulietta's Hijacked Selfie

Admit it…that’s a great selfie! Okay, now that we have established what a terrific job I did with this photo, here’s the arty one. I’ll admit, I do like the colors she used. I hope Clooney will drop in to see me. It’s been such a long time since we’ve gotten together.

Giulietta's hijacked Selfie artified.

To create the art, Mom used the Cloud Front filter from Dreamscope, then the Toxic Purple filter and flower border from piZap and plain, black and purple borders from Picasa.

So, this is my entry in Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Caturday Art blog hop. To join this fun hop and/or see the other submissions, click on her badge.

Sunday Selfie Blog Hop Reminder

It is fairly obvious that I won’t be back here tomorrow to host our blog hop. After all, my selfie was hijacked and squandered here. I can guarantee you that I have no intention of taking another one. The only thing I know right now is that we will be dedicating tomorrow’s post to the beautiful Snowball from 15 And Meowing. We found out last night that she suddenly received her wings and has left for the Rainbow Bridge. We hope you will join us tomorrow in honoring and remembering Snowball.

Purrs and paw-pats, Giulietta

THESE ARE THE GOLDEN YEARS

Friendly Fill-Ins: Week #54

Friday already? As you will see from the #4 fill-in, I am already in my “golden years,” and I need time to go by a bit more slowly. I never seem to have enough time to accomplish everything I want. MOUSES!

Anyhoo, I am participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted each week by Ellen (15AndMeowing) and Annie (McGuffy’s Reader). This is a blog hop. You can enter by clicking on the above badge.

As always my completions are in teal italics.

Golden Years of Camping with Mau1. My idea of roughing it is a hotel with maid and room service. When I was a kid, we went camping every summer. I never liked getting really dirty or using an outhouse. My parents also sent me to what is commonly referred to as sleep-away camp from second through sixth grade for two-weeks. The camp I attended was part of the Camp Fire Girls organization. When I was at Camp, my mom would “clean” my room and get rid of anything she didn’t feel I needed. It always hurt to come home to find things that were important to me gone.

At this point in my life I am leaving the camping to Cat Scouts Mau and Cooper Murphy.

2. I never get sick of talking about Kitties Blue. Could there be any other answer? And with eight, the stories never end. That’s the reason I started this blog, and 1,267 posts later, I’m still “talking.”

3. My youth wasn’t always happy, but I am not complaining. My paternal grandparents were wonderful to me. I probably spent more time with them than I did with my parents. They were the only members of my family who gave unconditional love to me. I have written about them in previous posts.

4. My “golden years” are now, as I am officially retired. I do not consider writing The Cat on My Head to be work.

Golden years or golden furs?

RAINY DAY POEM

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

It’s Thursday, so that means it is time to give thanks as well as write a poem. Mom is particularly tired and says her brain hurts. It’s a long, boring story, so I’ll spare you the agony of hearing it. Once again, however, I have been forced to take over the challenge of writing the week’s poem. When I say challenge, I really mean nearly impossible chore. Sorry Teddy and Angel Sammy, but “X” as a prompt makes for a certain amount of head scratching, in an attempt to come up with some inspiration. As we did 26 weeks ago, I am cheating by using “EX” and just going with the appropriate sound. I cannot claim to be proud of my effort, but it gets the job done.

Extremely Rainy Day

I’m no expert, but I know one thing:
All this rain we’re having is extreme!
The puddles are up past my knees.
They’d surely drown if I had any fleas.
The squirrels are soaked and bedraggled.
I’m certain they are tired and frazzled,
Trying to eat in these terrible downpours
Hanging from the birdfeeder by all fours,
The amount of water falling is excessive,
And I’m beginning to feel quite depressive.
All I want to do is lie around and nap
And snuggle in my mom’s warm lap.
Now that last is exceptionally sublime,
And I wish I could do it all the time.
But I’d rather see some sun and play.
So, please, oh please, rainy day go away.

We’ve had two inches of rain in the last 24 hours. We all are feeling soggy and grumpy. Nonetheless, I do have some things for which to be thankful.

Thankful Thursday

We are delighted that our humans were only gone elebenty thousands days; though, we are not thrilled that Dad Tom has left again for what is bound to be at least two or three decades. We have, however, promised the mom we won’t complain, except maybe about the fact that all that BlogPaws loot remains behind closed doors. Well, all but that incredible tower/sphere. It has remained occupied 24/7, except for when we are eating breakfast and dinner. Here’s proof—me enjoying a snooze.

How Mauricio spends his rainy day.

LUCKIEST KITTIES EVER!

Kitties Blue

Mom and Kate, sporting their cat ears.

Cat Style Lounge

We kitties barely finished cleaning up the house before our humans got home from the BlogPaws Conference on Sunday evening. We were happy to have them home but sorry to see our five-day nip and treat party come to an end. Well, that was the case right up until the moment the swag bags started piling up and the most magnificent cat tower we’d ever seen came through the front door.

One of the best things about the BlogPaws Conference, according to our mom, is the Cat Style Lounge. It is packed with all the newest products available for kitties. And it is all provided by one of mom’s very favorite people, Kate Benjamin, of Hauspanther. At the conclusion of the Conference Kate gives away every item in the Lounge.

Mom and Dad have brought home some cool “goodies” previously, but this year they hit the jackpot. Check us out enjoying the Sauder Natural Sphere Cat Tower featuring a banana leaf sphere perched on top of a three-legged base standing 44″ tall.

Kitties inspect new tower.

Cooper Murphy was the first to check out the sphere as Mau looked on from the lower platform.

Cooper Murphy shows the other kitties how to get in and out of tower.

Mau is second of the kitties to investigate the tower sphere.

Astrid finds the sphere quite comfy.

The sphere has both a front and a top opening and a washable cushion on the inside, making it the purrfect spot for napping. One leg is wrapped with sisal for scratching and the raised bottom platform is carpeted for lounging. If you think this looks like something you’d enjoy, you can find it at Amazon.

Kate told Mom that we’d probably need another platform to use as a step up into the sphere. But the three of us who have been checking it out have leapt right up from the floor. Easy Peasy!

We are anxious to see what else Mom and Dad brought home, but we know nothing can beat this. “Thank you, Kate, for this most amazing prize. You are the cat’s meow!”

Mom will be sharing a variety of photos from the BlogPaws Conference tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday.

MINI ANGEL FIONA SELFIE

Sunday Selfies: WEEK #145

Today’s selfie is a bit unconventional. I know you recognize this sweet little face. If not, here is the my beautiful angel, Fiona.

This is short tonight as I am still at the BlogPaws Conference.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my Angel Fiona as well as the face of the precious mini, felted Fiona Emily made for me.

This is our weekly blog hop, and we are looking forward to you sharing your selfies with us. If you do not normally post on Sundays, but would like to join in, the hop remains open through Thursday. All anipals regardless of species are always welcome to join in the hop.

The link to add your selfie is below as is the code to add the blog hop to your post if you’d like. If you do so, we’d appreciate it if you can add our badge or a link back to The Cat on My Head, so your readers know where the hop originated.

Thanks for hopping!
